It’s over the top edge lord for blood angles
A genuinely tragic short story, like most Blood Angle stories. Plus some mentor interactions with Primaries which is always a plus.

now i'm starting to understand why everybody loves the blood angels... and this guy, Guy (LOL), i really dig his writing style... i mean, i personally am way more describing on the fight choreography, but his descriptions of the environment and thoughts and feelings are... other worldly... i'm really learning from listening to his writing now... amazing... and amazing reading, you are really making one man army audio books that are more akin to radio novels now... way to go brother, may the god emperor protects you with all his might and attention... :)

I remember band camp, the Chaplains prowling the brass and woodwind section for any hint of taint; readying their chain axes for any that deviated from the 2/2 time and eager to mete out discipline to those who dared disrupt the melody.

Guy Hayley is certainly the best of them, in my opinion, and this was an interesting story. The relation to standard to Primaris marines, how the Blood Angels handle their fallen brothers, and by dismissing the Emperor as a god, from the Chaplin no less. Very interesting, a lot of nuances and little procedures within the chapter.
Out of every narration you've done, both past and present, this is my favourite. I really feel like I'm both in his shoes and hovering over his shoulder, feeling his.... dedication... is the best I can come up with... the absolute commitment to doing such a heavy duty is inspiring.

So happy to catch up on some more stories from the one and only ABP. This was a great one. When the sergeant was having a moment of lucidity at the end, and our executioner was speaking so calmly to him ... that got me in the feels man. I think I may have got a slight lump in my throat. Damn your good at this.
I never noticed how the High Chaplin and the Reclesiarch are so sure to know the Emperor is a man, and not a god. I wonder how true these sentiments are among other chapters, even the weirder ones like the marauders that so easily believe in curses and such.

I agree. Most. Characters more powerful than a factory worker in this franchise act like arrogant superior autists who treat being spoken to by a mere human as an annoyance or an insult to their status Haley is the author who makes an effort to make space Marines, magi, and primarchs seem likeable instead of unspeakably arrogant.

A Xeno species that is animal but also a fungus. I have never seen this in a non Orkoid. Releasing spores in mass upon death is exactly what happens when an orkoid dies. Could these Xenos be the natural species that the old ones modified into the Krork?

I don't think the Blood Angels get enough credit on how they care for normal men and women. Even since the Horus Heresy, Dominion Zephon showed empathy for the citizens, this trait continues even now with the Primaris.

All hail Haley, he and Abnett are my fav authors, in that order. Haley is the best charactet writer in all of 40k. And he loves to force me spilling some men tears at the end of his books : Hammer of Olympia, Devastation of Baal and The Great work. Thank the Emperor for his blessed work:)

@@ABorderPrince yes he is referring to Mephiston. His original name was Calistaireous I believe. He went through the black rage and had a building fall on him and trap him. He went through the rage for like a month and when he came out the other end he was 10 times more powerful psychically and physically. He has fantastic stories about him!

So. Does it means with new retcon that this now happens from 12 to 20 years after the Devastation of Ball or during this time Period? Because if it does, that would explain why there are only 3 old mark Blood Angel marines going to take care of a Black Rage crazy Primaris marine from a Squad that is fully Primaris.
i love story time with the prince epic truly epic keep em coming dude and yes guy haley is a genius the devastation of ball reduced me to tears in the final battle when he killed the hive tyrant and sanguinius appeared before him telling dante he must live and was needed and when uncle rob told him "you kneel to no one i teared up again ......that novel hit my soul also when the legion of the dammed appeared that was me yelling at the top of my lungs "FOR THE EMPEROR"!!!!!!......................as you may guess i am a brother of baal

Your afterthoughts are very poignant. Too many 40k "epics" are just constant fighting, but not in the glorious sense - More just a series of emotionally dissociated explosions. Without the emotional component and the characters, the rest of the themes lose all meaning and substance.
