    I sometimes buy points in order to keep accounts with certain programs (ones that I don't use much but have a sizeable balance) active. Without activity, all the points would expire.

      Rarely are you able to purchase transferrable points. The exception is Marriott Bonvoy, which transfers to 40+ airline partners. Now that's a topic that's worth exploring in a video

    • @AmyranthLovely

      The math would look as follows:
      Buy 110,000 points for $1,815 instead of $3,300. So the acquisition price would be 181,500/110,000 = 1.65 cpp, marginally better, and you don't have to put up quite as much cash upfront to unlock the full bonus!

    what about this scenario. Can you purchase the points say for eg the 110K for $3300 Cad using your Amex Aeroplan reserve card and also get points for the $ spent on the total purchase so you "double dip" and squeeze out a few more aeroplan points outside of the actual proportion?

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, that would work! It just wouldn't count as a travel purchase, so you'd just get the base 1.25x earnings.

    They have an ongoing promotion now to buy points, what ive been trying to figure out is can you buy points to achieve status? Lets say im at 15000 points now, can i buy the difference to get up to 25k status?

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      "25k" status is just a name, it has very little to do with having "25,000" points. For intends and purposes, let's just call this 25k status as "Silver Elite". Also, even if you are short of any of the Status qualifying segments, miles, or dollars, you cannot just buy points and get yourself reaching the status tier like that. You could earn this "Silver status" with 100,000 EQD though.
      I understand there are lots of terminologies here. Hope this gets you somewhere to start your research. It's a convoluted industry :)

    Hey Ricky, great video as always! Will this purchase count towards the elite statuses? Example 25k or 30k. I noticed the bonus points don’t add up and count towards the EDQ, only the points from actual spend…will these points count as EDQ points to get up to that 100k to get 25k status? I have only had the Amex Aeroplan Reserve card for about 2 months now. Thanks!

    Hey PoT, having trouble doing the math here and could use some help. I have an Amex Plat which gives me 1x points on most purchases, so for example, a $120 purchase gives me 120 MR points. I then convert these to aeroplan pts at 1:1.
    When you buy aeroplan pts via this method and promotion, I spend $120 and get 4000-6000 aeroplan pts.
    I feel like I’ve got too many zeros here. Could you provide me some clarity on this?
