    Friendly reminder to anyone who needs it: YOU’RE ALLOWED TO SEEK A DIAGNOSIS. You’re allowed to find out if you’re just struggling for no reason, or if you’re struggling because you have a condition (ADHD or something else). Either is okay. Also, if you get diagnosed, you’re allowed to embrace it.
    I didn’t think I was “bad” enough or “struggling” enough to deserve this kind of help. If it weren’t for an encouraging family member, I would never have allowed myself to seek diagnosis or treatment. Now I am on ADHD meds and learning new skills; it feels like finding out I’ve had poor eyesight my whole life, and was given a pair of glasses I didn’t think I deserved. It didn’t happen overnight. There wasn’t a big magical moment where I put the “glasses” on and felt different. It took a few months of trying meds and learning and experimenting. But if I hadn’t kept going, I never would have learned I needed “glasses.” I can’t believe I would have denied myself this help.
    Consider me, a random stranger on the Internet, an encouraging friend: If you think you might have ADHD or anything else, you are worthy of finding out and seeking treatment. Don’t be embarrassed, don’t feel like a failure, don’t worry that “it’s a just fad” (like my first doctor said), don’t worry about not having “bad” enough symptoms, don’t just keep “trying harder”…
    Go find out for sure. Do it! For real! It’s worth it no matter what. Keep learning. Talk to a good doctor. You’re worth it.

      Thank you so much for this! I'm in the same place as you were right now. I tend to mask a lot, hide my feelings and struggle internally so that's definitely something I need to overcome when I see someone - to not just respond with "Oh, I'm fine" to every question about me. I have a referral to a psychologist, so I hope I'll have the courage to book an appointment sometime soon

    • @jnharton
      @jnharton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      I would add that almost no one is suffering for “no reason”, there is usually going to be a reason. It’s more a question of what can you do about it, if anything. - Part of the reason to see a doctor or other medical expert is to move beyond deciding for yourself, whether that ends up at a diagnosis, ruling some things out, or advice on how to deal with it.

    I really needed this today. After YEARS of thinking I had ADHD, I got the results of my tests today, and they said that I don't, that my ADHD-like symptoms are more likely caused by anxiety. It felt like a part of my identity had been ripped from me. Like, if I don't have ADHD, then what is WRONG with me. I feel so connected with the ADHD community and have so many of the same struggles. I just have to take heart that even though I guess I don't have it, that these videos still help me immensely

      It is saying that just because you have some adhd symptoms doesnt necessarily mean that you have adhd, and just because you have adhd doesnt mean you will have every symptom. There's a lot of overlap with symptoms of other disorders, so the best thing to do is see a mental health practitioner/psychiatrist if you are able to, so that you can better understand your symptoms, their causes, and how you can treat or accommodate for them.

    As a Gemini with ADHD, you may find that your natural curiosity and intellectualism can be both a strength and a challenge. Geminis are known for being versatile and adaptable, which can help you to thrive in a variety of situations. However, ADHD can sometimes make it difficult to focus and stay on task, which may require extra effort on your part to manage.
    It's important to remember that having ADHD is not a reflection of your intelligence or ability to succeed. Many successful people have ADHD, and there are many strategies and resources available to help you manage your symptoms and achieve your goals.
    Some tips for managing ADHD as a Gemini may include:
    1. Developing a routine: Having a consistent schedule and routine can help you to stay organized and focused.
    2. Breaking tasks into smaller steps: Large tasks can feel overwhelming, but breaking them into smaller, more manageable steps can make them feel more achievable.
    3. Prioritizing tasks: Identify the most important tasks and focus on those first.
    4. Using your strengths: Geminis are often creative and innovative, so try to incorporate these strengths into your work and hobbies.
    5. Seeking support: Don't be afraid to seek support from friends, family, or a mental health professional to help you manage your ADHD symptoms

    Apparently they had to have me go through some therapy sessions before having me go for a diagnosis. I have just found your channel this year and it has definitely helped me understand myself better, thank you

    Thank you for saying I deserve to know. I think for me its ADHD and anxiety and trauma responses but I still doubt the diagnosis I got and have imposter syndrome about neurodivergence. I want to be accepted in a community though. I’ve been suspected autistic twice but I’m not convinced. Anyway, thank you for your graciousness and empathy here, Jessica.

    Aw man that "You deserve to know" message made my heart so full ;u;
    I'm saving up for a diagnosis myself but I've been getting questions on why I need to have one in the first place if I'm "so sure I have ADHD," and nothing I say seems to get the message through. Been watching this channel for a while and this short only just came up for me but I personally really appreciate the message in this one

    I imagine if I self-diagnosed and read up the symptoms of half the disorders, I'd label myself as the most insane person on this planet. Thankfully, we have doctors that actually spend years in school for this, and not myself with a google search bar ;d

    It always got on my nerves to see content creators who simplified ADHD to a couple quirks or general habits. And you can tell a lot of it is clickbait!!

    This is a great way to inform people of the fact there are nuances. Though your title is a little unclear, I thought it would have different symptoms of ADHD. Maybe try find a title that better fits the content?

    • @lavendargooms2056

      It's a play on videos (mainly on tiktok) that are exactly this format but instead of this information which is nuanced, they list symptoms of adhd (sometimes the most common ones, but sometimes pretty specific ones that definitely are connected/symptoms for some people but can seem a little weird without further explanation). This video is playing on those because while the people making them are trying to be helpful and get people who are struggling started on a journey, they can also be misleading because of the things mentioned in this video (symptoms definitely a part of adhd, like poor working memory, can be other conditions). So the title totally fits, it just is a little confusing if you aren't already familiar with the material this video is referencing.
