    Friendly reminder to anyone who needs it: YOU’RE ALLOWED TO SEEK A DIAGNOSIS. You’re allowed to find out if you’re just struggling for no reason, or if you’re struggling because you have a condition (ADHD or something else). Either is okay. Also, if you get diagnosed, you’re allowed to embrace it.
    I didn’t think I was “bad” enough or “struggling” enough to deserve this kind of help. If it weren’t for an encouraging family member, I would never have allowed myself to seek diagnosis or treatment. Now I am on ADHD meds and learning new skills; it feels like finding out I’ve had poor eyesight my whole life, and was given a pair of glasses I didn’t think I deserved. It didn’t happen overnight. There wasn’t a big magical moment where I put the “glasses” on and felt different. It took a few months of trying meds and learning and experimenting. But if I hadn’t kept going, I never would have learned I needed “glasses.” I can’t believe I would have denied myself this help.
    Consider me, a random stranger on the Internet, an encouraging friend: If you think you might have ADHD or anything else, you are worthy of finding out and seeking treatment. Don’t be embarrassed, don’t feel like a failure, don’t worry that “it’s a just fad” (like my first doctor said), don’t worry about not having “bad” enough symptoms, don’t just keep “trying harder”…
    Go find out for sure. Do it! For real! It’s worth it no matter what. Keep learning. Talk to a good doctor. You’re worth it.

      Thank you so much for this! I'm in the same place as you were right now. I tend to mask a lot, hide my feelings and struggle internally so that's definitely something I need to overcome when I see someone - to not just respond with "Oh, I'm fine" to every question about me. I have a referral to a psychologist, so I hope I'll have the courage to book an appointment sometime soon

    • @jnharton
      @jnharton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      I would add that almost no one is suffering for “no reason”, there is usually going to be a reason. It’s more a question of what can you do about it, if anything. - Part of the reason to see a doctor or other medical expert is to move beyond deciding for yourself, whether that ends up at a diagnosis, ruling some things out, or advice on how to deal with it.

    I really needed this today. After YEARS of thinking I had ADHD, I got the results of my tests today, and they said that I don't, that my ADHD-like symptoms are more likely caused by anxiety. It felt like a part of my identity had been ripped from me. Like, if I don't have ADHD, then what is WRONG with me. I feel so connected with the ADHD community and have so many of the same struggles. I just have to take heart that even though I guess I don't have it, that these videos still help me immensely

      That's the main concern I have going in to seek a diagnosis. The doctor I have an appointment with cautioned me he only gives diagnoses in 25% of the cases. She was saying that signs of ADHD can also be signs of other things and that you’ll still need to get a real diagnosis from a medial professional since ADHD presents differently in everybody. And, since it’s presents differently in each person even if you don’t identify with the signs listed elsewhere you might still have ADHD.

      It is saying that just because you have some adhd symptoms doesnt necessarily mean that you have adhd, and just because you have adhd doesnt mean you will have every symptom. There's a lot of overlap with symptoms of other disorders, so the best thing to do is see a mental health practitioner/psychiatrist if you are able to, so that you can better understand your symptoms, their causes, and how you can treat or accommodate for them.

    Largely between Connor Dewolfe's videos being relatable, and your videos being educational I get tested in 4 days.

    I didn't realize this was an ongoing sentence from the start and was waiting for the list of signs 😅. Love your channel, your work in helping people like me feel accepted is wonderful!

    Got diagnosed a few days ago. Was relieved but know there’s work to be done. Going to go to my doctor and get a referral to a specialist so I can get proper help.

    Aw man that "You deserve to know" message made my heart so full ;u;
    I'm saving up for a diagnosis myself but I've been getting questions on why I need to have one in the first place if I'm "so sure I have ADHD," and nothing I say seems to get the message through. Been watching this channel for a while and this short only just came up for me but I personally really appreciate the message in this one

    I love how cautiously you approach the subject!!! My go-to place used to be the ADHD subreddit but there’s loads of self-diagnosis going on there. Thank you for being thorough and honest! 🙏🏻

    Reading this made me feel much more better and relieved actually. I have my ADHD diagnosis appointment up coming and these weeks I've been comparing myself to a classmate that has ADHD and sometimes I just ask myself 'why am I not like her if I'm supposed to have ADHD too? If I'm not exactly like her then I don't have it?'. And it was making me feel really bad. Thank you so much for your video 🥹💙

    I love the pacing of the vid. I was actuslly able to read the stuff without getting panic or missing something. Since TikTok everything is so horribly fast paced. We're so used to it now, this normal readable pace of this vid almost feels slow.
