This morning, I cut both Mugen Dachi and used Japanese tatami mats with the Charay Khyber Knife by Windlass. These Khyber knives have a T-back spine that adds stiffness to an otherwise thin blade. In this video, I demonstrate0, that the thick T-back spine does not negatively affect the cutting ability of these formidable Afghani short swords.
Here are a few videos by Matt Easton that describe these Khyber knives in great detail:
    • Swords & knives of Afg...
    • Forged in Fire: Knife ...
    • Afghan Knives: Choora ...

Nice cutting, and a beautiful "knife". :) You deserve more subscribers, and hopefully they'll come over time.

Agreed. I love the videos. Simple, to the point, and kinda therapeutic.

The Khyber knife is one of my top 5 favorite blade types. Was so happy to find a cutting video featuring one. Always seemed strange to me that they were almost exclusively used to cut and no point work. Mine stabs through everything I've tried it on except concrete and that part was an accident anyways. Thanks again for sharing your experience with us!

It's called Chara and it's an ancient Pashtuns sword, My ancesstors defeats british, alexander and many more with this sword, we have one in home

Its actually just a tura meaning sword in Pashto. Chara is what we call the khyber dagger or pesh kabz.

😂😂😂 when did you guys defeat Alexander? Alexander was defeated by Chandragupta Maurya , no one else , Dogra Punjabi King Porus(the greek name of the king) gave the toughest fight to Alexander but was defeated and it was Chandragupta Maurya who defeated Alexander , moreover I am a Sikh , you guys were never able to defeat us , we were the ones who won Peshawar from you or else it would have been in Afghanistan today , Sikhs defeated pathans and won peshwar

Dam that was smooth. I’m going to check out Windlass, Cold Steel as a nice version as well but without any elaborate engraving that usually comes either way the real kypher knife. 😁

How much did the sword cost.
I looked it up on windlass steel craft and when i went to want to purchase it took me to another page that said it made museum replicas. So I am eery to purchase from that link. Also it didn’t show a price.

It really sucks that Windlass discontinued these. I would love to get my hands on one but nobody seems to want to part with theirs :(

Thanks for showing that the T-back doesn't hinder cutting at all!

    • @markbyrd7710

THE EXPLOITS OF ASAF KHAN by AFGHAN with an introduction by GEORGE YOUNGHUSBAND is a story written in the twenties by somebody who knew the North West Frontier and the Pathans. The hero lops off arms, legs and heads with his Afghan knife ,I had always thought this an exaggeration of the weapons cutting power. After watching this I now know better.

I feel like I've seen these with saber grinds as well, am I crazy or is that true?
Also, can anyone give an explanation as to why a t-back doesn't cause more resistance?
