100% wrong! First, its the states responsibility to have a "pollution standard guideline", each state had one since the 1960s, before the EPA became a federal agency. That's why each state will have different EPA laws. The federal government also has a set of EPA standards, which are below the state's guidelines. @@bobroberts2371 sadly, you are correct. The EPA will haunt them regardless of where they go. Now, a practical matter is that the DPF does not and can not trap the particulate matter of the sizes accused of actually being responsible for respiratory issues. So it is all about the fact in the world of political correctness one cannot discriminate against black people but only against black smoke. Particulate matter is dust and quickly settles to the ground, joining rubber tire dust, brake dust, clutch dust.
@@WithLOVE_Indiana wouldn't matter, the EPA has identified them. You snowflakes can rest easy. The evil smokers are out of business no matter where they go.
You are absolutely correct. It drives me crazy coming to a stop at an intersection with no other vehicles in site. Not only synchronized lights but sensors that tell you to speed up or slow down to offset intersecting traffic. I would rather slow down 20mph a 1/4 mile before the intersection then have to stop at a light. With today’s technology this should be a no brainer. If politicians actually fixed things they wouldn’t have anything to run on at the next election cycle.
a solution is already becoming popular, many intersections are now controlled with radar tracking, they give cars approaching the intersection extended green lights.
Get something straight: DPF doesn't "clean" anything. It just traps the soot in a substrate to be burned out later, either on the highway during an extended drive, or sitting in parked regen mode with the engine revved up to highway RPM. That same particulate matter is still being dumped into the air, only at a size so small as to be invisible to the naked eye, while at the same time making the NOX and other crap so microscopic as to be readily absorbed by your lungs. At least the mucus membranes in your lungs would trap the soot so you could cough it up later, if you inhaled it. DPF is an absolute lie. It does NOTHING to clean the air, and it ruins fuel mileage because every regen cycle can burn several gallons of fuel within a matter of minutes. I know this, because my own Diesel van burns 2.5 gallons more fuel at every regen. So the same amount of crap, maybe even MORE, is being spewed into the air thanks to the extra fuel consumed during regeneration. Good job, EPA!! DEF does actually help break down certain pollutants, but again, it's poison, too. The chemical used is essentially standardized urea mixed with distilled water. DEF breaks down in the DEF chamber and becomes a mixture of ammonia and carbon dioxide. The ammonia then catalyzes the NOX out of the exhaust stream. Again... CATALYZES. Think back to high school chemistry. What does a catalyst do? It starts a chemical reaction without being consumed or altered in the process. So now instead of NOX, we have that demonic, evil CO2 along with VAPOROUS AMMONIA spewing out of every vehicle equipped with a DEF system. Congratulations, EPA. You used lethal poison to get rid of what is, by comparison, a mild irritant. Well done. But hey, it makes the environmentalists happy, and, more importantly, makes whichever senator's cousin who owns the patent on DPF and DEF richer than creosote, so it's all good, right?
Lmao, you dont even bother to finish explaining the process. It still has to go through the selective catalytic reduction catalyst. Which only leaves nitrogen, water vapor and carbon dioxide. Please educate yourself before spewing bullshit
The particulate matter is NOT largely being dumped in the air at extra small levels, the vast majority of it gets converted into ash and stays trapped in the DPF's substrate. The ash does allow better airflow through it than the carbon particles do. The build up of carbon particles starting to clog the DPF, which is when the differential pressure sensor reports the backpressure over the threshhold the computer wants to see, so it starts a regen cycle to superheat the DPF and burn the carbon particles, again converting most of it to ash. There's a reason DPF-equipped diesels that are still functioning can literally have their tailpipes swiped with a white glove, and it will still be white. 'Evil CO2' is pretty hilarious because it's not actually a pollutant at all as far as air quality is concerned. It is, however, a concern for global warming, yes. However, with or without the emissions equipment, the vast majority of what comes out of any tailpipe IS CO2. We even know what the set amount of carbon released by burning a gallon of gas (8,887 g), or a gallon of diesel (10,180 g). So, here's some fun math. The total amount of pollutants coming out of a diesel with no emissions equipment (NOx, CO and HC at least--leaving particulates out of the equation for the moment) might be between 1-2 g/mi according to the certifications I've seen over the years. CO and HC are always surprisingly low on diesels, even without emissions equipment, because of their lean-burning nature. But, NOx is generally high. But it legitimately is, on average, between 1 to 2 grams per mile of ALL these pollutants combined on a diesel with no emissions equipment. That means there is 1 to 2 grams total that has the potential to be PARTIALLY converted into CO2. But, to put this into perspective, regardless of if a vehicle has its emissions equipment intact or not, a diesel getting 18 MPG average is going to average 565.5 g/mi CO2 output. See above where we know how much is emitted just by burning a gallon of diesel, so, simple equation if you know the average MPG of a vehicle. 10,180 g/gallon, divided by 18 miles per gallon, you get 565.55555... g/mi CO2. Now, WITH emissions equipment intact converting the 1-2 grams of actual harmful pollutants PARTIALLY into CO2, well, that's pretty insignificant considering how much is already being emitted regardless of emissions controls being installed or not. However, you do have a point where many of the emissions equipped modern diesels do get better mileage when the emissions equipment is removed and computer retuned, because that means it IS emitting less CO2 just based on the increased efficiency. So, if an 18 MPG average truck with all emissions equipment intact is now a 21 MPG average truck with it all removed, it goes to 484.8 average g/mi CO2 instead of 565.5 (plus another maybe 1 gram from the emissions equipment converting the small quantity of pollutants into a little extra CO2 and water vapor).
@@dzelpwr I never considered that perspective. Very enlightening response to an admittedly snarky rant. My own experiences dealing with EGR/DEF/DPF/SCR systems have been rotten, to say the least, thanks largely to the terrible things that these systems do to the engine itself when (not if, WHEN) they begin to fail. Diesel engines were once renowned for durability and longevity. Now, they are an absolute money pit that significantly increase the overall cost of ownership. Engines that were once capable of 500k miles between overhauls with proper maintenance now require them 2-4 times as often, mostly due to increased wear from particulate contamination introduced as part of the EGR cycle. Engines that are not equipped with a dedicated DPF Regen injector in the exhaust system send the extra fuel required for regen burn by pulsing the primary injectors during the exhaust stroke, which causes carbon build-up on every surface of the exhaust system upstream of the DPF. It also causes cylinder wash-down and contaminates the oil with fuel. This further increases wear AND necessitates extra oil changes, which creates additional hazmat disposal problems. EGR coolers develop fractures and leak coolant into the intake, causing cracked pistons and valves, shattered injector tips, or worst case, full-on hydro-lock, which can cause an engine to blow itself to shreds. None of these issues existed before the introduction of all this extra equipment, and the engine manufacturers have their hands tied when it comes to trying other methods of NOX and soot reduction. From this perspective, the entire Tier IV system seems designed to render the Diesel engine too costly to operate. From a mechanic's perspective, the net benefit from these systems is vastly outweighed by the sheer cost in terms of money and downtime. I own a 2000 Caterpillar 3126 that has none of this equipment, and produces no appreciable soot or NOX. Same for my father's 1989 7.3 IDI, which has 450k miles on the original engine, and the 1997 Powerstroke I recently sold. None of these vehicles are modified from factory spec, and none of them haze up or "roll coal" when under a load. They are properly adjusted and reliable as the sunrise, and I'm willing to bet they would pass emissions in any jurisdiction that wants to test them.

Obamaistoast2012 No, your personal added horsepower does not justify any added potential pollution. It’s still pollution, and the point is to Decrease it.
Ben Nagem when the Truck “regens” and it burns off the spot inside the DPF, the gases caused by this, actually cause more pollutants than them being removed. To add, the emissions system has to be created somewhere, so, you were filling the environment with more pollutants to create said systems. Now, before we go to far, deleting a truck does NOT cause it to smoke automatically, contrary to popular belief, and not everyone that deletes or turns their truck is out there throwing smoke everywhere.

“The people shouldn’t be afraid of the government, the government should be afraid of the people.” -Vendetta. When a diesel truck goes into regen it pretty much is “burning” all of the soot and pushing it all out of the tail pipe so about 5-10K miles worth of “soot” is being pushed out of the tail pipe while a really good tuned and deleted truck with 0 rolling coal is much better for the environment.
I know the DPF is supposed to be burning the soot down to less harmful particles but if your in or around a truck while it's running a Regen it doesn't look or smell like it's any less harmful. I find the truck smells like unburned diesel and hot metal and it blows blue/grey or off white smoke. Its enough to put you out of the truck for a bit.
Almost every school district in the country is still using some busses that do not have a diesel particulate filter. The EPA decided that they and any truck built before 2007 were exempt. Is your child riding in a School Bus without a diesel particulate filter?
I've worked at a dodge dealership and had to change at least 3 dpf a week for being clogged along with egr valves. That's why I have a 2003 LB7 with out all the BS attached to it.
the (EPA) don't realize that the person that pays for it, in the end, is the buyer of the vehicle and making these vehicles unreliable. Try taking your truck to a dealer after the warranty (emissions system are not part of the warranty????????) it's at least 10k fix that's why people delete!
This technology is over a hundred years old. It was the best at the time and now better tech is available, push whatever brand you prefer to actually make not shitty compliance EVs. How is the judge corrupt? Doesn't eveyone know it illegal to remove emission controls from a vehicle? They did the crime. Don't like the law? call the US congress. Judge was doing his job.
@@confuse3671 Because we all know government listens, right? As if nobody contacted them already... If they listened or cared, unconstitutional laws wouldn't be a thing. Yet, here we are. His job is to uphold the constitution. "Just was doing his job" doesn't cut it for obvious reasons. Unconstitutional laws are void.
The problem isnt the pollution. Large corporations pollute far more and are given a free pass. The funny part is citizens applauding the government stripping individual rights from other citizens.
Why do you have a problem doing your part? The emissions equipment is on the vehicles. They have plenty of horsepower and torque even with all the emissions equipment on. There is zero need to remove it and throw 5x the fuel at it when the engine can't burn all that fuel and just blows it out the exhaust as black smoke. Power numbers on diesel engines keep going up even with all the new emissions requirements. These guys weren't building work trucks that needed an extra 400hp to haul equipment. They were making toys that were lifted 12+ inches and had huge wheels and tires. They are making show trucks which will never see any real work and have no excuse for bypassing emissions to give them more power. These clean air laws don't negatively effect you in any way, shape, form, or fashion. Your individual rights stop when your actions have a negative effect on others. Polluting vehicles, especially dirty running diesels, cause respiratory problems every day. So your individual rights are not being infringed on. I don't remember the constitution saying anything about individuals being able to pollute the air for everyone else. Driving a vehicle and owning a vehicle is not a protected right here or in any other nation on earth. The fact that you think these people's rights were taken away leads me to believe you don't know your butthole from your elbow when it comes to "individual rights" at all.
Wesley Jones it helps them run better... the emissions crap makes these trucks go down with like 25-30k miles on them... they run more efficiently and healthier.
Everyone should look into Semi truck Regens and tell me we still need these dumb DEF systems. They literally get plugged up and the soot gets burned out into the air either way so why even have it
And in our next story the Utah state government has purchased 3 hammers with a price tag of $86,240. They claim that these hammers will allow them to complete construction projects in only half the time it normally takes. That means it will only take 6 weeks to replace a road sign in stead of the normal 12 week process.
They literally have a show which proves irrevocably that they circumvent things on vehicles required by law. That's about as black an white as it gets. Seeing is believing, and they manufactured the evidence that ended up biting them in the ass. Irony is lost on this one.
You do realize it’s illegal to modify emissions on any vehicle right? There just aren’t enough enforcers to catch everyone who removes it so they decided to make an example of diesel brothers to try to deter the other retards who remove their emissions stuff

100% wrong! First, its the states responsibility to have a "pollution standard guideline", each state had one since the 1960s, before the EPA became a federal agency. That's why each state will have different EPA laws. The federal government also has a set of EPA standards, which are below the state's guidelines. The Diesel Brothers were violating both state and federal standards. True diesels, produce significantly lower emissions over gasoline cars what the violation was about black smoke it was producing, the ash. The clean air act, addresses both visual and chemical content the exhaust.

HOLY CRAP!!!!! I ALWAYS THINK THE SAME THING!!!!!!!!!!!
You are absolutely correct. It drives me crazy coming to a stop at an intersection with no other vehicles in site.
The largest polluting waste of fuel is getting the vehicle moving again after stopping for nothing.
Or make a better transit infrastructure so less people have to drive
a solution is already becoming popular, many intersections are now controlled with radar tracking, they give cars approaching the intersection extended green lights.

Same with my 08 f350
Better fuel mileage equals less pollution. It takes a lot of polluting to get the oil out of the ground and turn it into something your engine can burn and then get it to your local gas station.

Sure 👌
The regen converts the soot into ash, that must be better, but that’s putting a lot of faith in auto engineers.
Better than piss water injection.

I wonder when we can start suing the EPA for the damage ethanol, biofuel, and emissions equipment causes to our engines?
the (EPA) don't realize that the person that pays for it, in the end, is the buyer of the vehicle and making these vehicles unreliable. Try taking your truck to a dealer after the warranty (emissions system are not part of the warranty????????) it's at least 10k fix that's why people delete!

The problem isnt the pollution. Large corporations pollute far more and are given a free pass. The funny part is citizens applauding the government stripping individual rights from other citizens.
its evry one all togher not a finger game
Gas engines burn more and pollute more than a Diesel engine even with the black smoke coming out of it
I dont have a diesel truck, but love the messages talking sh!t because I have an opinion different than yourn.
I'm not comparing Hitler to Diesel truck regulations, but simply what Governments can easily do when allowed to be corrupt and over reach ruining people's rights To Liberty, Life, Property, and The Pursuit of Happiness.
Right now the Government's forcing you to wear a mask (Nazi's Forced Jews to wear the star of David).
The Government can steal any amount of cash money you have if they 'think' you're laundering money, and even if you try to take them to court they'll still keep your money. (You can google it) Nazi's took money and businesses away from Jewish people because they didn't want them to have power anymore.
The Government's saying 'Oh you can't own this type of fire arm' or 'You can't own this type of fire arm accessory' The same thing Nazi's did, they disarmed their population so people couldn't fight back as easily.
The Government's attempting to potentially make this company go Bankrupt over a minor infraction. None of this is 'right' that money doesn't solve anything. If they want to make change, simply make them re-install all of the emissions on their own dime and leave it be. Or a common 'Fix It' ticket like most people get when caught with illegal modifications or something is broken on their vehicle. Paying almost a million dollars does nothing but hurt this business and the Government knows that, that's exactly why they want to do it.
But enjoy your over reaching Government, lets just hope you and your family are the type of person the Government likes and wants to keep around, but if you're the 'Jew' to the Nazi Government, death might be your preferred option considering the alternatives. Just think about that.
Interesting last time I checked they have as much right to that “air” as the government considering the government is suppose to be “for the people”. This is about as stupid as getting in trouble for collecting rain water

PS. Feel free to ignore the gross polluting 747 taking off at the airport and the dirty fuel using cruise ships.
This is about feel good actions not actual problem solving.
It also dramatically reduces exhaust gas temps which is important with towing heavy loads. Temputures can get hot enough to weld exhaust valves closed if you push to hard.
