    I was recently in Norfolk on holiday and love Hunstanton Beach. I got some good shots of the shipwreck and a few of the sea defenses. The tide was out and it was mid day/mid afternoon I got my photos. I do photography as a hobby and am still learning and always look for different things to shoot with my camera. Great video.

      Hi Karen, glad you enjoyed the video. Hunstanton is a lovely place isn’t it - quite a few different spots for photographers also. It is very tide dependent though! If you return to Norfolk I have made a three series last year that you might enjoy. Link below. th-cam.com/video/kzxlzxaGoPw/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks for the video mate, really informative . I’ve been planning to visit for a while so gonna be helpful. Recently discovered your channel and all videos are very well made and as always really helpful !

      Thank you Nazmul. I try my best to make them look good and contain helpful information. I don’t believe I have much ‘competition’ in the south of England, most TH-cam channels concentrate in the north of the UK for some reason.

    Thanks, Ben for all your informative videos. Appreciate the effort you put into describing where exactly to go, how to get there etc. Had Huntsanton on my list, but now I know where to go and I can plan my shots in advance

    Looks an awesome place mate, only a couple of hours down the coast from me. Will have to visit when we're allowed to travel further. Nice images too mate 😊👍

      Yes, it is a great spot , with plenty to aim the camera at. There is generally quite a lot in Norfolk. If you need a formal guide then I would look up the Fotovue photography guide to East Anglia by Justin Minns.

    Another great video. Your conversational tone is so listenable and the places you visit certainly float my boat!

      Thank you Steve. It’s a one-way conversation when you are filming, but you get used to essentially talking to yourself and the weird looks people give you :-)

    Had a few trips out like that Ben, but hopefully being out was a consolation none the less. Went to Aberdeen at the weekend just for a change of scenery although the weather was not the best, so seascape was a non starter but still managed to visit a couple of buildings I was after as well.

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      scotty4418 well it’s a benefit of making video as well as taking photos. Because I walked away with a handful of drone photos but nothing else. However because I was filming as well I can make the most of the conditions and it kind of become worth while again. I am definitely going back later this year.

    Where I took my first proper art B&W long exposure shot about 10 years ago!

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s almost a bit too easy there isn’t it....providing you get the tides right😂. I assume nothing has changed in the last ten years or were they all in better condition?

    • @robfielding100
      @robfielding100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is the same except I seem to remember the tide going out about half a mile! Ten years ago I had my pet Grizzly with me (Irish Wolfhound crossed with a St.Bernard weighing 92 kg) hence I didn’t do as much photography as I wanted🤨

    Oh, forgot to add... Hunstanton is unique because it is the only place on the east coast where you can watch the sun set over the sea.. this being due to the fact it is actually inside a giant bay called 'the wash'.. youre actually looking towards land (gt yarmouth) but its so far away you cant see it. Google map it and you'll see what I mean! Thats todays fun fact for ya, over and out!!

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw the map at the lookout point so it was interesting to see that there is land opposite. The wind farm is also ‘new’ since 2015 correct?

    • @NeillRobinson
      @NeillRobinson 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Harvey Photography I believe so - although there are actually 2 (I think!) Imagine taking a shot from the top of one of those, that’d be a hell of a long exposure shot!

      We have a wind farm here - they run tours so I went on that fascinating. Video below.

      Hi Paul, depending upon where you are based, I make location scouting videos for Sussex, Cornwall, Dorset, Devon, Essex. Wherever my camera takes me. They aren’t always successful, but I aim to help the next photographer that visits the location (just as I would if I were researching a location).

      Do it. It takes a bit of practice, but it is rewarding showing people behind the scenes of successes and fails. If you only have photographs to show for it people will never really understand how much effort goes into making the images.

    Hi Ben another great video. What app were you using to track the Suns direction please?

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ian. I was using sunseeker. I have used it for years now and like it’s simplicity. I believe that photopills also has augmented reality for sun tracking.

    Nice video. last time I was in Hunstanton I was in the same situation as you - wrong tides, no images and I have to go back there. However it is good otherwise for "street/beach" photography, its a bit like mini-Blackpool-in-the-east. BTW - what AR app did you use for predicting sun position?

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dave, I have used sunseeker for years now - it seems to do the job. The good thing about this rocky is that I didn’t even spit the structure at the South end of the beach with the hot pipe - and it seems to be on a different tide to capture that compared to the zig zag groynes. So even more options when I return.

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew, some of the shots that I featured at the end of the video were taken at sunrise in September 2015. You have to be careful of your own shadow getting in your composition - but otherwise yes totally an option.

    I have to ask Ben, what's the purpose of those zig-zag fences?

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The groynes (whichever shape or size) are there to stop the beach sand and pebbles etc moving to one end of the beach because of the waves coming in at an angle. Typically you end up with a collection of beach on one side of the groynes and then there is a step down to the next section of beach. It’s called long shore drift. I am amazing a remember that from GCSE geography all those years ago!
