- Kleber got a Legendary Downgrade (Upgrade) in the latest patch. It makes her into a torp boat and doesn't appear to be very good.

Ah. I missed the chance to call it a Legendary Downgrade.
Like most of the LUs/UUs, not Legendary or Ultimate and hardly an upgrade as originally advertised. The good ones got FUBAR like the DesMoines LU slot 5 with all that acceleration now just a shadow of it's former self...
they overnerfed it...just like the shima upgrade.
the bonus is great but the penalty is too extreme

This legendary was flagged do-not-ship when we first looked at it, and as usual, the intern in charge made the executive decision to ignore all tester feedback. This wouldn't have even passed interaction review, if they actually did any. They don't even whiteboard stuff over there anymore.

I have a confession to make here: I only played two games with it. This was the second one.
Yaaay no. Very stupid upgrade. Has to much of a downside compared to upsides.
Out of all newly released legendary upgrades, none of the are really upgrades to your ship
Now if the concealment buff were 60% to air, sea, radar, and hydro
Very weird "upgrade" in my opinion. I see what they are going after with this, but 8 km torp boat just doesn't cut it any higher that T7. If this nerfed guns more moderately (like 40 %) or did something else weird for the better concealment, it would be a fun meme modification, but this is just sad.
Imagine making the gun range like 8 km so that it would be awful even with AFT. Kleber would be the absolute ambush unit with 6.2 km concealment, but she just couldn't do the long range gunboating, which is the thing that she stole from Khaba. Radars would make her completely useless but other DD's and even cruisers would still have to fear her popping from behind an island and gunning them down. Very scary meme build.
Or the upgrade could go for a proper torp boat build and give +20 or 25% torp range on top of the current changes. The guns would still be a last resort, but she could actually do some torping without having to find super lucky opportunities. I don't think that would still be too OP but it might just make the upgrade a viable option.
You would think after all these years wargaming would come up with something at least fun when you have to basically pay for legendary upgrades . But when you see the current normal upgrades which are all the same for every boats , the captains who are all clones as well , the camo and flags which are just mandatory buffs...it's not surprise there is so little creativity .

I like the upgrade. It is a handicap. I still like it. Combining the blinding speed of the ship with all the racks while using better concealment, that's hot.
In ranked this happens a lot where the CV let low enemies just slip away, especially DDs. Some CV players do not even bother striking DDs because hard to hit, instead they prefer to strike cruisers. Why? because they want to gain more XP so they don't loose their star.
I like the idea of the upgrade, getting closer while having such massive speed and tanking potential, and such great torps can really make the kleber a sneaky powerhouse of a ship.
Welcome to full on Naval Training Center, they just waited a little until we forgot. I wish Salem gets the Des Moines legendary. She is more affordable to operate with her type 20 camo and has reduced service cost. With a health recovery build and that legendary power mod she would be a true alternative.
It feels good to see a Kl'eber moving at Halland torp speed.
Faster than that even. It'll outrun most CV planes even.
Imagine if the upgrade buffed AA by 30% or more for damage, but reduced your rate of fire as well by 15-30%.

If you want a fast reload torpedo DD nowadays, you would pick a EU DD. No need for an expensive Legendary "Upgrade" mod. By the way, @Aerroon, when you see planes coming at you, you need to run in the perpendicular direction, not continuing in the same direction as the planes as you will never out speed planes, even in a Kleber.
There are ships other than planes though. Those ships tend to still deal more damage than a CV and angling against them matters more than the planes unless the planes are dropping at that moment.
Aerroon, I've been looking at the new unique upgrades and AFAICT you can get the Audacious' detection radius down to 9.3 KM (!!!) using CE, CM1, and the unique upgrade. Can you do a video with some stealth-carrier shenanigans?
Its like an upgrade that reduces Yamato's detection range to 8km with a 2 min reload on the guns.

History: Kleber was designed as a "Fast, light cruiser"
WG: designs it as a Fast, Light Cruiser, but makes it a DD.
WG Avg Player: Plays it like a DD.
WG LU: Makes it a DD.
Everyone: LU is garbage...
It is, and its not. As arroon points out...
If you can play the Kleb with the LU to its strengths, its fun. Obviously makes it a fast torp boat. However it is very challenging to do this, similar to a non smoking Shima with 8km torps.
It is better to just play it as its intended design, a light, fast, cruiser.
But the LU atleast gives you an entirely different playstyle.
Kudos for WG for making it truly off the wall, but the trade offs are super harsh.
This legendary upgrade looks like what happens when you hire bad painters. They get the color on, but they don't tape around hinges and latches so they get stuck
I think WG never used to play the Kleber by themselves. 20% better camp for 80% worse reload is the most stupid idea for the ship. If they wanted to emphasise the torpedos of Kleber they could just went for 1km more range but longer reload and slower speed or cut down the damage. That’s a fair trade in my opinion.

"CVs are broken" yeah, the only thing they can do is spot the dd and pray someone do something .

Aerroon, it would be awesome if you could do vids on other new UU. I really don't think any of them are worth it, but I'd still like to see some gameplay before making my mind.

Look at all these people still misunderstanding what the Unique Upgrades are supposed to be.
They are supposed to be upgrades that enable an alternate playstyle to the ship, NOT a direct buff.
People should stop their misconceptions at this point.

i wonder y small caliber guns perma knock down torp tubes faster than high caliber

Because smaller guns often shoot HE which deals splash damage.

Oh, I have played around with it, but it's just a really long smoke. It's pretty great though.
@@Aerroon Yeah, I had the feeling that if you use the smoke module and the new flag you can have a really long moving smoke which should get you more torpedo safe. Just curious to see if it changes the effectiveness of the ship.

Imho, I do not really like these unlogical things - how the camouflage pattern can change your gun reload? Makes no sense....
Maybe they replace some of the ammo rats with more barrels of paint.

Well the brains in wg have stopped working years ago. Why in gods name would Anyone "grind" to get a straight up down grade. Or make it a ship that already exist, but with far better AA, aka grozovoi.

@@Aerroon Stealth doesn't even matter because if you ever dare to sail close the enemy CV will make sure to keep you perma spotted and every ship in a 25km radius will be shooting at you.

Why not? The upgrade being terrible doesn't mean that the idea couldn't work. She definitely has potential with the insane speed and torp alpha. The concealment would just need to be actually good.
Yes , but why not just play a actual torp boat then? The legendary should enhance the ship like the other upgrades do , not try to squeeze it into another role.
@@turbomull7519 The idea is terrible because people go up tech trees to end up in a playstyle. To have these new/changed legendary upgrades spit in the face of the design of the ship is nonsense. Turning a ship into something it isn't after a player spent all that time getting to T10 and then getting the upgrade only to be given a Frankstein option rather than an actual reward is like telling people "Your time is mine to do with as I please, and I have decided to give you the choice to make yourself less effective after you spent all your time grinding towards a goal. I think you all didn't understand the point of legendary upgrades. They are supposed to be sidegrades that alter the play style so the play style doesn't have to be like the rest of the line. It is NOT supposed to be an enhancement and NOT supposed to be a reward that gives you an advantage over other players.
Tell that to moskva , yama and zao upgrades😂 it enhances their abilities ,while nerfing other sides, not flipping them completely around . Would you want a kurfurst upgrade for the yama for instance?
