Your clearing an opening to the lake provides natural air conditioning to the cabin from offshore breezes. The larger trees you leave protect the cabin from high winds. You have your winter heat supply from the birches, fat wood from the conifers, and cooking wood from the aspens. Is the stream water potable.
Be sure to cut any large aspen near the cabin. They are shallow rooted and may fall on the cabin in a wind or ice storm. Some conifers are also shallow rooted.

Good notice! With boiling the water it probably would be potable.
