Building A Log Lean-to (Finnish Laavu) | Final Episode
A Finnish laavu, Swedish gapskjul or slogbod, or Norwegian gapahuk is a traditional ethnic lean-to shelter, a small structure intended for temporary residence during hiking or fishing trips in the wilderness.
Laavut are commonly found in Finnish Lapland near popular fishing rivers and in national parks. In principle, a laavu is a simplified version of a wilderness hut. Like wilderness huts, they are not heated, and may not be reserved beforehand. Unlike wilderness huts, laavut lack doors or windows. A typical laavu is a wooden hut, about 10 m2 in area and 2 m high, consisting of a roof, floor, and three walls. The fourth wall is left permanently open.
A laavu provides a safe place to sleep during fishing or hiking trips. Visitors are expected to bring their own sleeping bags, as the area has no other sleeping facilities. Most laavut also have a space for a campfire in front of them, but the laavu is built so that a reasonable fire can provide warmth for the night. They are also commonly used as a rest stop along trails during daytime, and for camping cookout (which in Finland usually consists of grilling sausage on the campfire).
A laavu can also be an improvised structure of the same type, built out of available materials such as branches with leaves or pine/fir needles intact, or moss or animal pelts for the covering, and sturdier, stripped branches or young tree trunks as the supporting structure. These serve as temporary shelters deep in the wilderness, usually for a single overnight stay. This is the traditional meaning of the word. Traditionally, a log fire (rakovalkea in Finnish, nying in Swedish and Norwegian) was used, made so that it did not need surveillance during the night.
In the United States, this same type of structure is commonly referred to as an "Adirondack". Many youth camps use such structures to provide an inexpensive shelter for campers that is sturdier, and more durable, than a textile tent.

This is the first video of a full series of me building log cabin and clearing the forest around the future building site. The place has been standing there untouched at least 25 years. The project is started by my uncle in 1980s and for some reason the main building got only to the foundation state. The property contains two buildings. A sauna and a woodshed with a dry toilet connected to it. ...

Just bought two new huskies, 445e and 545 pro, sold my old 51. I figured have a small light saw for around the yard and atv but realized the 545 is just as light as the 445e so what's the use, took it back, the 545 can do it all.

The gas jug is husqvarnas own product and yes it stops filling immediately when the spout gets drowned to the fluid.

What a beautiful location for a sauna...it was obviously well built to be in the condition it is since the 80’s...shows how long a log cabin can last if built properly...like all buildings there has to be wear and tare....

With some Marvel mystery oil.& Lucas oil stabilizer. 10w30 all season motor oil.,or some SAE 30 w motor oil for lawnmowers. I know ATV's are different on that part some time to. Not on the gasoline part though. It's either 2 stroke.,or 4 stroke engines.

Hey you guys working in the those type of jobs. Y'all should use ethonal free gasoline& 2 cycle oil in your chainsaws. It's A whole better on.& for them to. The ethonal based fuel eats up your fuel lines if sitting for any long periods of time.& that fuel drawls more moisture into the fuel cans.& fuel tanks to. Just A?heads up to y'all out there working hard. It just would be smarter to use marina boat dock fuel instead of the basic 10% ethonal based fuel that eats up rubber fuel lines is all. I'm trying to help y'all save more money.& time that's not necessary for maintenance that's can be preventable ahead of time by switching fuels. Simply.& easy thinking. I would use in all of your gasoline powered equipment especially in the winter months for sure.
