As a black woman from Ethiopia, stepping into this community was like entering a whole new world.

They’ve accomplished a lot of growth and development in 30 years unlike our SA government. If you live here, you’ll know what I mean. I don’t say they are not racist, but we can admit their skepticism of the South African government and the way the ANC has run the country is clearly not without merit. SA is not flourishing, growing or developing its regressing. These people are the very least of our problems or issues, they only highlight to us what our politicians are doing wrong.
I agree our politicians are the makings of a horror movie...pure horror. Yet these people are also wrong, they MUST break down the barriers and embrace the rainbow nation, where no race is superior.

They are 'flourishing' due to number of reasons such looking after few people unlike the SA government that has the responsibility to look after everyone else including over 4 millions from other countries. Moreover, at large they still have the security of the main land as their area is in the middle of the mainland. Our Taxes keeps them safe. They export goods to other countries because the mainland allows them to do so. They are not a recognised country outside themselves. Many of them still make their living from near towns located in the mainland. Their source of living, the orange river, has its life in the mountains of Lesotho (black country) flowing through and nortured in the mainlkand. If the mainland can decided to have everything for itself, then orania will die. They deal with China because the mailnland allows them. Orania exits because we black peopel allow it to, we are struggling economically because we are for everyone. They ran and live in orania( part of the mainland) because they hate black people. They are a hateful group of people as they where hundreds of years ago when they formed the Oranje Free State to run away from the British rule in the cape and KwaZulu Natal. They tried to form this nonse hundred times before but failed. Many younng afrikaaners are living outsides this mentality.

Where were our rights when under the directive of the Christian Pope's of Rome,White Christians went the world over committing Genocide on all non-Europeans to take their land and push their adapted false prophet religion which was ours from the start ,which they used to deceive & control the peoples of the world. Africa was colonized in the North by White Turkic Ottoman Empire Arabs who falsely portrayed themselves as the original indigenous native people of Now Arabia. And the Dutch invaded in the South Claiming conquest of Black's native lands. Neither of which is indigenous to the Continent.
If they want to feel safe, why don't they go black to Europe ? They will be safe there, they're not AFRICANS.

Orania is a perfect model for a working community, they are independant, they do not take hand outs from the goverment, they take care of their own in all spheres, medical, education. They have a municipality that works. They have no crime, they do not complain and get on with life. There is absolutely no reason why everything in life must look like a packet of licorice all sorts, if you go to China, Japan or the Congo there are many places where people stick to their own, even in Ethiopia, just imagine if every village in South Africa had this will of self determination, what a different place this would be. They are to be admired.
I work for an NGO ( most NGO'S are funded by European or American countries) and many white folk, often volunteers, work for them uplifting communities, creating jobs, taking care of orphans etc. But there are no whites living there in that sprawling community. There are several such areas all over South Africa. Those of us who work there travel several kilometres to work there. Probably everyone living there has a piece of land with a dwelling. Some dwellings are tiny but there are several mansions. I have no land of my own, but I don't bleat about it.
And that permits you to have your own currency and not paying taxes?

will pay dearly after elections. ) Health care decrepit. Potholes, collapsing infrastructure. It has become so bad that some rate payers are withholding rates from their thieving municipalities, creating an NGO and doing repairs themselves. So what would you do- especially as taxpayers money is used corruptly to enrich the connected?

I'm not even SA but I don't think this guy's interview was far from the truth in his analysis. If there's no safety concern in Orania and these people enjoy living among themselves, there's no need to tarnish them as being racist because they happen to be of a certain pigmentation. It works for them, and this should be celebrated. Live your life and let other do the same.

Just look at the buildings in the inner cities in Johannesburg and Pretoria. Why don't you go to inner Soweto and see that the black people live in squalor, after 30 years of stealing, lying, taking white land. You are wrong about black South Africans having a bad experience visiting Orania. I haven't heard one experience of local black visitors being treated badly in fact most of these people are impressed after visiting the place.
Walk into any place in South Africa with a negative attitude, and I am sure you will find something that you do not like.

Correction, the deaths in South Africa during the rule of Hendrik Verwoerd were a fraction of what they are today.
The joblessness as it stands now is something horrific and I do not want to mention the homelessness.
They are a religious/cultural group like the Mennonites. I’m a black 🇿🇦 but I see nothing unusual or wrong with these people. There is also nothing racist about them. They just have strong beliefs, which are fundamentally Christian. I’m sure if these were people of any other religion you would’t have such negative views about them. In SA there are also many China cities no one asks for membership criteria or their views about outsiders.
Regarding their statues, I challenge you to name one nation that was built by saints. Nations are built by worriers all over the world. These people honer the heroes who built 🇿🇦. Only the future new Jerusalem would be a holly city of God, beautiful sister. Enjoy our beutiful diverse country 🇿🇦😀.
Her own country has so much ethic and racial tension. Her ethnic group, the Tigrayans as well as the Amharas (the Semetic speaking Habeshas) not even 100 years ago were active in enslaving the very dark skinned Benishangul Gumuz people in Western Ethiopia and Gambella in Southern Ethiopia - they called them Shanquella and Barya which meant slave. Even today the Habesha will jokingly call family and friends who look more like African than Habesha they call them Barya (which means slave).
She obviously doesn’t do this as her mind is more enlightened but I guarantee she has family that does!

As a South African Indian, I applaud the people of Oranja. Not for segregation, racism, their views etc but instead for deciding to do something for themselves and their families rarher than sit back, moan and groan and complain about what hasn't been done. They created a community for their people to thrive in...very much like the Amish in America. Other minority groups should learn from this. Don't complain. Be proactive.

South Africa isn’t a Black Country. It’s a country that belongs to all the people who lives in it. Black, white, coloured, Indian. Orania was purchased from the state and it was formerly used to house the people who built the Van der Kloof dam. After the dam was finished it became a ghost town. You obviously don’t know the Afrikaner history and you belittle people’s history. Paul Kruger was fighting against English occupation and colonialism. Shaka an Inguni , who is the founder of the Zulu nation drove the San into the Maluti Mountains (Lesotho) and the deserts of now Botswana as they ran from being slaughtered.
The conflict between the Dutch, French and English settlers was a drop in the ocean of what the real indigenous South Africans endured.

Their philosophy of segregation, isolationism, while in a land predominantly African is the problem. Are you ok if white people in SA creating schools, restaurants, golf courses, clubs where black people are excluded just by making the joining fee or membership fees prohibitive to the majority black? That is not acceptable, even if they are not bothering anyone. The act of creating a system which by design excludes others is exactly the same as apartheid. Any of those Oranians who wants to come to any African village and build a homestead is very welcome, there is no law whatsoever that excludes them from doing it. Why are they creating barriers for others to joining the community?
@ragamuffin2433 not true. I enquired about building a house in Venda, but was answered as to why I wasn't simply living with other Afrikaners. That's the point here: People do tend to live with their own culture and there's nothing wrong with that. In KwaZulu-Natal there are huges swathes of land exclusively for only Zulu people. I am fine with that. Orania is extremely small, no reason to point a finger to them when black people in SA has large trust lands of their own.

I am a black person. I think this separatism is based on a protectionism mind. If we may rather learn from this culture and introspect our behaviours, i believe we can make strong development impact within our black communities. Littering things everywhere, having contagious mindset towards good management, always promoting insecurity in our communities with rapes, house breakings, highjacking, stealing, murdering, drug, lazziness at work. Imagine a world without such? A small heaven? I guess we must learn and correct our shortcomings...

I am also not a true born Afrikaner, but converse very well in both languages. "Aparthied/Segregation"; call it whatever you like is unfortunately a term that erupted into the World and became a human source of creating one huge void between the two major White Sectors of people who live here in South Africa. Sadly to an extent it still survives, between the two White Sectors. (hatred is what I call it when applied) Maar kom ons wees nou eerlik, beide Afrikaner/Engelse Boere, werk saam in die landbou/Nywerhede ens., om ons tuiste van voedsel te voorsien. What a wonderful project for a cultural recovery from the many years of oppression by the British and colonial conquerors of the African continent.. the afrikaner nation has stood up alone to rebuild its honour and dignity without the help of any other devisive and failed global cultures. Orania has proven that any single culture can nurture a pride that can build a glowing progressive economy out of the bare earth.. without any government interventions. Well done to the brave pioneers of this great project. Let us all learn from them and do the same smongst our own cultures..
