A note to our viewers: This is Kira, I'd like to personally apologize for the lack of character variety on our channel. While I have some johns as to why that is, I will do my best to change that from here on out. Mostly cause I don't want to be a sellout lol See you next vid =)
+SSBM Tutorials Hey man it´s known by default that you´re gonna make more vids about the chars that are more popular, if people want specific chars then why dont they just pay for a request? I personally dont mind you guys just doing these about the top 10 orso, but that´s just my opinion. love your vids btw, keep it up!
+SSBM Tutorials It's all good! It's much harder to do guides on mid and low tiers; less people play them, so not as many people will know much about them. Besides, doing top tiers allows you to help a lot more people get better at smash.
I would LOVE some puff tips and tricks, and an "Are you a Jigglypuff player?". Maybe some matchup analysis between characters. Keep it up with the great content.
Other tip for lasers: if you have 20XX, setup a cpu to shield grab and practice shooting one laser to make them grab and then another that hits them before they shield again. It makes sure you're shooting at max speed. You can also do it running and at further distance, although turnaround might be too hard. Hope that helps everybody
Omg, thank you for making this! I've been a falco main since i was in grade 7 (now in university) and I haven't figured out what to do to push my skill up to tourney-level play. I'll definitely be utilizing this video!
Ever since I started watching your videos I went from being a casual to a "competitive" person (or at least I think I am). I went on to wreck everyone of my friends, everyone on my school, and people on local tournaments. For anyone out there, it does take A LOT of time to practice, it took me close to 5 months to "get good". Only downside is that when I'm playing with my friends I can't play casual because I am used to playing at a higher level. However, I still don't think I am close to the high level players out there
As a Falco main, I absolutely love this channel. You give me so much to learn and practice! Just wanted to let you know your falco tutorials don't go unappreciated. Thank you!
+Randomchallenger i just feel that it's less obvious what to do when practicing fox because he has so many different options on every character, where as falco is a little more straight forward.
This was perfect; please make more videos like this! I also like how this video was a general overview of Falco instead of an in depth tutorial. Plus the specific techniques are in separate videos which makes it easier to study. Keep up the awesome videos :D
I was just trying to make a list of tech skill drills for Falco and this video comes up lol. What luck, this really helped too, everything on this channel does.
Dude i was really hoping for a falco comboing vs fast faller, but this video just explained to me everything I needed to know and more man, thanks a lot Kira. Sometimes it might seem like a tutorial is obvious or pointless to make, but believe me it's extremely helpful to a lot of people whether or not i'm one of them, so PLEASE keep it up man. Really wish your channel gets bigger so you can focus on youtube and twitch a lot more. Just a random suggestion, is that I think you should do a lot more of these styled videos that teach a lot of stuff, so you could go into more advanced tutorials which are more specific like your series of tips with lucky using fox.
This is an amazing video. Perfect stuff my brother to watch and practice. Thanks so much SSBM Tutorials! I think videos exactly like this should be made for all tournament viable characters, I personally really want to see Fox, Sheik, and Marth in that order
Great video, this was fine with complexity. You covered a lot so all the beginners (and myself) have to do is practice these techs. Again great job Kira!
Thanks Kira it's funny I actually just picked up falco today and already watched all your other videos on him so it's cool you just put out this one super helpful thanks a lot
i think this video was perfect. it was a quick easy guide to falco there is no way you could cover everything to do with falco. this video went through all the basics you should get comfortable with. Then you can go watch actual matches of pros and learn from their playstyle and apply it to your gameplay.
This video was pretty much perfect for me. I've just started really focusing on my Falco tech skill, and this was just what I needed. One of these videos for Captain Falcon would also be amazing. Or even just videos like this for a series so you can do a bunch of characters?
i think its worth noting the 2 different turnaround lasers, if you do the turnaround input while in jumpsquat you wont keep flying backwards, but if you delay it until you are in the air you will get further away
Although he definitely has his flaws, recovery and range being the two major ones, his kill moves are some of the strongest in the game and they're all relatively easy to combo into. His back throw works well st KOing floaties, and his grab game can be effective on all types of characters. And he has his back air and cape, which make him amazing at edgeguarding. Pills are an above average projectile too. it definitely makes sense to me why he's not working on any Doc vids, as his metagame has stagnated since shroomed dropped him in early 2014. But I think the character still has potential, and, in the right hands, can still make it to top 8 at a supermajor.
+SoySauS (not the Link player) yeah. actually i thought of you while we were recording that, I was like, "Man if Sawyer was here he'd have the smoothest full-momentum lasers"
This was awesome, I generally play by learning how my opponent plays and then learning their character so I know their weaknesses in all aspects, so this will help me a lot. Also I would really appreciate one of these for Shiek, I'm having some trouble comboing with her as my current main (still relatively new to the game)
i think it does a nice way of teaching people things to practice but not teaching newer players how to do it, i watched this video thinking i would learn kinda tricks on how to do the running short hop laser, not just saying that you can do it. but other than that it taught me a lot! (especially how to recover, you did a really nice job explaining all your options as best as you could!)
I just wanna say that you guys are great at what you do. I want to become a pro smasher in the near future and these videos have helped a lot. I plan on becoming a Marth player. If I ever go to a melee tournament, I'll make sure to watch one of yout videos before fighting. Thanks again.
I'd really like to see a Fox video. I think this Falco vid was a good kind of beginner-amateur Falco tips video. I already know how to do everything in this video and I wouldn't call myself good by any stretch, but that's only due to my consistency and experience in tournaments/against actual players. I think expanding a bit more on recovery, like maybe a tip on how to nail the side-B platform cancel, as well as maybe a section at the very end expanding on what you can do after you nail those 5 things (but don't go super indepth obviously) might be helpful to round out the video.
Great vid! Very informative for me as a 7 Months Falco player. Next time you make a Falco Video, would you mind covering more about Soft Hits to extend into other combo moves? I.E Westballz Soft Bair > Dair to dunk many players DI'ing off stage.
I'd love to see a more in depth March tutorial/drills practice video. I just started playing melee a couple months ago and I feel like I've hit a brick wall in regards to improving
The nice thing about practicing Falco is he is fairly well rounded and teaches skills for almost every other character but Marth might be the most well rounded of the top tiers and Mario of the low. What I mean is the skills learned from playing some characters translates to other characters really well while others like Peach and ICs dont really teach anything about the other characters.
A tip for getting low lasers with falco is by tapping down on the analog stick twice or three times. Always helps me against characters like mario or jiggs.
Very helpful! Hey, will you do these types of vids but on the Mid-Low Tiers? The High Tiers are pretty well known, so I'm more interested in the lower ones.
idk I feel like there are more people that play the higher tier characters than the lower ones. So it benefits more people to do tutorials on more commonly played characters right? Like I think that's why they choose the S tiers.
Justin Wong Yeah, but as helpful as it can be, it gets boring watching the same top 8 characters again and again. Well, I guess that if they're only gonna do vids on the top 8, then they should do it on the Ice Climbers, cause they're the coolest and most different characters from the Top Tiers. Also, your name. 0.0 Are you really him? Please don't lie.
I feel like just because they do top 8 doesn't make the vids boring. These are legitimate tutorials on techniques and strategies that you can't just find anywhere on the Internet. Or if you can it may not be as organized and visualized in this manner. And they have touched upon some lower tiers like Luigi and Samus. Just not as much because there are less people who main them. Imagine if they did like a game and watch tutorial or pichu techskill tutorial. Who would watch/benefit from it. It's not like we're all gonna start picking up pichu and try to master the character. I understand u want diversification but keep in mind they said they don't have a lot of time to make these vids so every video counts. That's why the community votes as to what they wanna see next. And then they make the video that most people WANT. If everyone wanted to start suddenly playing low tiers then sure it's fine. But we're talking realistically here. Because these are competitive players that want the best odds of winning. We're not all low tier hero's and we wanna see vids to help improve our mains not our sandbag secondaries. And also I'm not EG Justin Wong. But my name is actually Justin Wong. People can have the same names lol.
Hey, I got some ideas for your next videos: You should talk about Zoning, Spacing, Center Stage (when should I go in, how many percents should I have with fox/falco/whoever to fight for center stage), how to react on fox approaches (high DAir for example), how to punish certain moves like Sheik's D-Smash. Also I would like to see some more tutorials for Samus, Peach and CF (Falcon only because I am a Falcon-main, haha, but really, you should do more about Samus). Also a video on how to think about stage striking/banning (was my opponent feeling comfortable on the small Yoshi's Story? I should try Dreamland then! - and so on). Thanks for your great videos!
+nakedhitler I forgot to add that it would be great if you do some match-analysis-podcasts with maybe some other good players while focussing on a topic like I already said: zoning, spacing
When combo'ing floaties, isn't it best to do a double jump and make sure you are doing a falling dair rather than a rising dair? That way you can beat them to the ground to get and up tilt and continue (i know hitting that L cancel can be tricky). I think thats a very important distinction between combing faster fallers and floaties you should mention
+ThaRixer You can do these, if they DI down and away they can get out but if you do it fast it works on most people. Even top players fall into this trap it is worth practicing
+super2thesam At least there's a Pikachu main in the top 10. Try being a DK main like myself. :/ It's hard to even find a match with a good DK playing.
Could you do a series where it focuses and 1 character and their match ups against other characters and showcase what the character should be doing? For example Fox should be doing a lot of drill shines to up smash or up throw up airs. Thanks in advance
Could you maybe go into more depth of how to use shine and waveshine, how to edgeguard (specially with dair, since it is pretty difficult to do), and how to approach? Do fox next! Just go straight down the tier list.
+Luis Castro We have Falco's approach tutorials uploaded already! You just waveshine to follow their DI or at low percents against fastfallers. Edgeguarding will come later
would you be able to break down the combo section of this video and give some tips on proper execution? I normally main marth who is a lot less technical, but really want to learn falco
I know that not many people play him, but as a luigi main it would be great for me if you could do more luigi content, considering you only have one video on him.
I would love to see one a bit more advanced than this. I'm pretty decent at bread and butter combos, as well as recovery and throw options. I don't really know how to get to the next level though.
Is there a word doc for this, or at least a script? I want to go through it with a highlighter and pencil to underline. This is good stuff, especially for me since I'm working on basic combo drills like these and overall consistency. However, the amount of info is a lot to take in at once. I can always watch the video multiple times, but I might as well ask.
I just played melee for the first time today at a friends house and my god falcos combos make me feel good. All I do is shine jump cancel back air or dair
AWESOME!!! Just some questions... I am having trouble Shffling as falco in that I can't fast fall. Should I be using the cstick? Why is shielding after laser important?
The c-stick helps a lot but you should be able to fastfall after a nair too. Just gotta practice slowly bit by bit That's a shield stop. You shield stop before the laser. It allows you to do lasers at different distances. Note that you have to shield within your dashdance range or else you'll slide
Dang. You get more views on your video in like 10 minutes than I do in 2 weeks LOL. I guess that's what they call a fanbase :D Nice video, happy to be a Falco main
Aye a video for me :)
Maybe you can finally beat thay kirby main
S H O T S F I R E D

Ahhh you here...

HOW TO PRACTICE FALCO
1. Shine
2. Wait until he starts cryin'

+SSBM Tutorials Just stick with falco for life lmao
the video may have lacked complexity and more "description" of some sort. Still love you
+SSBM Tutorials Hey man it´s known by default that you´re gonna make more vids about the chars that are more popular, if people want specific chars then why dont they just pay for a request?
I personally dont mind you guys just doing these about the top 10 orso, but that´s just my opinion.

+SSBM Tutorials It's all good! It's much harder to do guides on mid and low tiers; less people play them, so not as many people will know much about them. Besides, doing top tiers allows you to help a lot more people get better at smash.

You forgot the 6th core skill.
Swag.
Swag is not taught. Swag is inborn. Westballz came out of the womb with a suicide dair.
Exactly, if you don't have swag when playing Falco you're doing it wrong.
im so in agreement, you can suck but if you got swag with falco your sick
BRO RIGHT THOUGH!? Falco just has this swagger about him..
Frfr
Other tip for lasers: if you have 20XX, setup a cpu to shield grab and practice shooting one laser to make them grab and then another that hits them before they shield again. I like how shine wavelanding was basically an afterthought in this video when really it should be at the front of any new Falcos training repertoire
Basic falco punish stuff I know it’s wild
As a falco main, I really enjoyed the structure of this video.
I'm surprised there are not more videos like this around TH-cam. It's great to see what combos there are and how to do them all in the same spot.
When I posted a comment asking for this video way back and you responded saying it was gonna happen that was totally awesome. Way to commit, Kira!
Omg, thank you for making this! I've been a falco main since i was in grade 7 (now in university) and I haven't figured out what to do to push my skill up to tourney-level play. I'll definitely be utilizing this video!

+HALOANT788 I have a tourney tomorrow (my first) and if I get past round 1, I have to face the #1 seed 8) . Oh well, I hear Losers Bracket is fun...
As a Falco main, I absolutely love this channel. You give me so much to learn and practice! Just wanted to let you know your falco tutorials don't go unappreciated. Thank you!
Please do one of these for fox! Thanks

A fox one would be meh
+Darth Plagueis bump

perfect, great tutorial. thanks for promoing that documentary, too, im hype for it.
Watching this video made me feel so calm.I think it's the ambiance
This is an amazing video. Perfect stuff my brother to watch and practice. Thanks so much SSBM Tutorials!
I think videos exactly like this should be made for all tournament viable characters, I personally really want to see Fox, Sheik, and Marth in that order
Ay what's that chill song in the background
bro look the desc
6 years later and it remains the best overview tutorial for falco
This video was fantastic, keep it up. More videos on falco are always appreciated.
I haven't been able to find a useful Falco training guide, so thanks a ton for this!
I've kept this in my watch later for years, still revisit it from time to time :)
Thought this was simple enough for a practice tutorial, I'd say do Fox or Sheik next.
Great video, this was fine with complexity. You covered a lot so all the beginners (and myself) have to do is practice these techs. Again great job Kira!
Thanks Kira it's funny I actually just picked up falco today and already watched all your other videos on him so it's cool you just put out this one super helpful thanks a lot
need to see the live controller
This video is perfect. The more advanced the better! I would suggest doing Sheik next
the music with the not talking with all the combos was a really nice decision, video felt very clean
i think this video was perfect. it was a quick easy guide to falco there is no way you could cover everything to do with falco. this video went through all the basics you should get comfortable with. Awesome video! As a beginner Falco, this is probably going to be one of the most useful videos about training.
Nice! I figured his bnb out against fast fallers on my own but I didn't realize you could follow up against floaties with a double jump after shine.
I loved the video and am so happy you made it, but as an answer to your question, I'd like to see a more advanced guide. Thanks!
Simply put, this was EXTREMELY helpful
Some Doc. Vids would be nice.
YES!
Was gonna ask for sheik, but this would be nice too. I second this
yes please. they've only done one
+Drew William True, but Doc has a better punish game.
But I think the character still has potential, and, in the right hands, can still make it to top 8 at a supermajor.
dave you should've mentioned there are two reverse lasers, the one where you keep backwards momentum and the one where you stop all of your momentum.
+SoySauS (not the Link player) yeah. actually i thought of you while we were recording that, I was like, "Man if Sawyer was here he'd have the smoothest full-momentum lasers"
dang hype
also my no-momentum lasers are sick
+suicide senpai he literally broke it down step by step on how to do the running short hop laser... were we even watching the same video?
+Simon K i meant in the way of inputs, i didn't know how to word it properly lol
+suicide senpai it's literally short hop laser fast fall lol
I just wanna say that you guys are great at what you do. I want to become a pro smasher in the near future and these videos have helped a lot. I plan on becoming a Marth player. If I ever go to a melee tournament, I'll make sure to watch one of yout videos before fighting. Thanks again.
perfect video for me right now, amazing job explaining, well done i'll be using this over the next few weeks!
This is probably one of your most helpful vids and i dont even play falco!
I'd really like to see a Fox video.
I think this Falco vid was a good kind of beginner-amateur Falco tips video. I already know how to do everything in this video and I wouldn't call myself good by any stretch, but that's only due to my consistency and experience in tournaments/against actual players. A tip for getting low lasers with falco is by tapping down on the analog stick twice or three times. Always helps me against characters like mario or jiggs.
Can you do a video like this for Marth??? Just some key things to practice???
Very helpful! Hey, will you do these types of vids but on the Mid-Low Tiers? The High Tiers are pretty well known, so I'm more interested in the lower ones.

+Darell Arocho Eventually we'll do every character but it may take a long time
I feel like just because they do top 8 doesn't make the vids boring. These are legitimate tutorials on techniques and strategies that you can't just find anywhere on the Internet. Justin Wong Oh,ok! Still, your name's cool!
Marth or sheik next please. They aren't as technical as fox and falco and it may just be me but sometimes I don't know what to practice with them.
please make a practice vid for marth
this video made me realise i dont lazer enough ty kira
Hey, I got some ideas for your next videos: You should talk about Zoning, Spacing, Center Stage (when should I go in, how many percents should I have with fox/falco/whoever to fight for center stage), how to react on fox approaches (high DAir for example), how to punish certain moves like Sheik's D-Smash. Also I would like to see some more tutorials for Samus, Peach and CF (Falcon only because I am a Falcon-main, haha, but really, you should do more about Samus). +nakedhitler I forgot to add that it would be great if you do some match-analysis-podcasts with maybe some other good players while focussing on a topic like I already said: zoning, spacing
I mastered all the laser techs in my firs day. Thanks Kira!
same lots of practice
This was so good especially since I'm playing pound 2016 as my first ever tourney
I would really like to see a shine oos video! Thanks for the videos Kira they have helped me a lot!
+slippy112792 to shine oos:
1. hold shield
2. press jump
3. press down b
where is the down b button on my gamecube, I can't find it
+Fucкing James For the love of god, please tell me that's a joke.
+Spencer Argenna Yeah I agree but I believe I said this in the video already
Can you actually do all of those downthrow options or only if the miss the tech will it work?
Fox can't tech Falco's d-throw, I believe, so it just depends on sdi.
+Alan Zhang Anyone I believe lighter or as light as fox can't tech out of it. I don't know if anyone heavier can.
+Bayan Mehr It depends on fastfall speed not weight
+Alan Zhang Can't SDI a throw either!
+ThaRixer You can do these, if they DI down and away they can get out but if you do it fast it works on most people. Even top players fall into this trap it is worth practicing
Nice video Kira! Hit us with that Marth knowledge next
Can we get a "how to practice pikachu"? It's a lonely existence being a pika main
+super2thesam At least there's a Pikachu main in the top 10. Try being a DK main like myself. :/ It's hard to even find a match with a good DK playing.
Watch a lot of Axe :D
Lmao you came to the right place. Absorb the Falco, become Westballz, and maybe that will reflect in your DK abilities :P
this is super helpful, i'm hoping you can make more for every character!
+Rafael Arévalo Most people wouldn't be able to tell you how to practice with Kirby lol.
Could you do a series where it focuses and 1 character and their match ups against other characters and showcase what the character should be doing? For example Fox should be doing a lot of drill shines to up smash or up throw up airs. Thanks in advance
Perfect, Kira. Perfect.
Thank You! I Seriously Needed This!
please do a basics video for sheik and generally cover more of the very basic stuff. Helps us noobs out a lot !
I normally main marth who is a lot less technical, but really want to learn falco
if you can do a How To Practice Fox what would be awesome
Great video, please a sheik or Marth training video next!
Thanks that helped hard for my Melee falco
Do an advanced tutorial on samus! Talk about hugs' aerial interrupts onto platforms and onto stage
Ty based kira, hero of melee
Falco is so cool. I just suck at melee but I really wanna get good just to pull off those swaggy combos
Thank you so much for this video! More please!
In depth shine dair and shine bair tutorial please
Shine bair: Jump
Shine
Jump out of your shine
instant bair :D
Great video! One for Marth would be p cool too.
I just played melee for the first time today at a friends house and my god falcos combos make me feel good. All I do is shine jump cancel back air or dair
what about a PAL sheik video and how the changes affect certain matchups?
I'd love to know how the heck to practice with Marth and if I'm missing anything I could be doing. Sweet video by the way!
+CptAmerica29 if you've ever heard of pewpewu, he has a set of video's called pewpewuniversity, they might help with your marth needs.
THANK YOU!!!!!
Maybe a more in depth shield pressure guide.
Doubleshine grab.
+Nicholas Zacharias We have shield pressure guides uploaded already!
AWESOME!!!
Just some questions...
I am having trouble Shffling as falco in that I can't fast fall. Should I be using the cstick?
Why is shielding after laser important?
The c-stick helps a lot but you should be able to fastfall after a nair too. Just gotta practice slowly bit by bit
That's a shield stop. You shield stop before the laser. It allows you to do lasers at different distances. Note that you have to shield within your dashdance range or else you'll slide
I watch this video a lot and it's helped me sooooo much thanks
Maybe a marth tutorial?
Thx for the falco ONE :D REALLY USEFUL
This was super helpful! I'd say do Fox or Shiek next.
This was great and super helpful! Can you make one of these for sheik?
"You already know, its me kira."
Fox next. thanks. Also should have noted that shine waveland is best way to extend combos on platform.
Dang. You get more views on your video in like 10 minutes than I do in 2 weeks LOL. I guess that's what they call a fanbase :D
Nice video, happy to be a Falco main
+Joob well he does have literally 1000 times more subscribers than you...
+Gerald Toaster Indeed he does LOL
you should do wave dash vs wave land, why they are different, and applications of both
Just what I needed thanks! 👍
how to practice fox next? i practice chain grabs, shield pressure, combos, and shine setups
Also a short combo similar to down-air - shine is down-throw - shine (yea it actually works at most percents
