    You can if they want you too, but if a client wants their waves then you cant or youll cut them out always ask the client

    @2XAllState I agree with Nitra2710. Everyone has a wave pattern from birth. You cant cut them out. It looks like the waves are cut out when you go against the grain because you're using a guard that is too low. Waves are curls that are laying down. If u cut against the grain too low then you'll cut into the curl thus makin the hair straight. a 1 1/2 with the grain will do the same as a 2 against the grain. You have to look at the hair to see the size of the waves and the coarseness of the hair.

  • @dariogpb
    @dariogpb 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @dplogan
    Your barber went to low then... The lowest dark Cesar is a 1 with the grain... Which is the same length of a 2 against the grain... If your barber used a 2 against the grain you would not be missing any waves... now if he went lower like using a 1 1/2 against the grain you will notice a big difference and most likely loose the waves that don't stand out as much

  • @BeYourOwnBarber
    @BeYourOwnBarber 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    ACtually i have to disagree with you, you CAN cut waves against the grain. the waves have to be deeper and you have to cut high a higher guard. if someone has been waving for a long time and their hair is trained, you could do a #3.5 ATG and it'd be
    pretty much the same as a #2 WTG or so. their waves just need to be deeper if you go ATG.

  • @madlionbarber
    @madlionbarber 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nitra2710 is correct you can cut against the grain and will not cut out a person waves. The Key is to cut hair with the next biggest guard with the clippers half way open on a 90 degree angle. than come back and lay the hair down with 1/8th guard this will give u a even deeper defined wave pattern. this will truly get the hair even.

  • @Aadonis219
    @Aadonis219 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @shifty224
    True cutting against the grain wont remove waves but if the waves are on point it will result in cutting too much off. When my trimmers arent charged I can use my regular clippers against the grain on my sides to take a bit lower before lining it up. Now if there are no waves ? Go for it all day the hair isnt trained to lay down a specific way.

    2 questions...
    #1You went with the grain of the hair cause his hair is curly right?...
    I got straight hair & i go against the grain of my hair to cut it cause when i go with it, it doesnt cut sometimes
    #2 do i have crappy clippers or should i just keep cutting my hair against the grain?

  • @dariogpb
    @dariogpb 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @2XAllState i been cutting hair for 10 years young hommie... you will not cut waves out by cutting against the grain.... cutting against the grain is actually better than cutting with the grain because when you cut with the grain all the hair isint the same length....

  • @pfunk19
    @pfunk19 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Nitra2710 I agree with @2XALLSTATE when he say never cut against the grain on a client with a wave pattern. You must not cut to much hair or ethnic hair because the golden rule is never cut against the wave pattern! It will cut the clients waves out of their head(if not all must)!! & I am a barber

  • @metoyu38

    @2XAllState Say bruh i have seen several videos here on youtube about how to cut hair, but i have to say you by far are the most detailed when it comes to explaining step by step that i have seen on here, good job bruh, this vid has really enlightened me.

  • @oharmon
    @oharmon 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Nitra2710 Yeah I agee. Cutting against the grain doesn't cut the waves out. The pattern starts near the scalp not at the hairs longest point. Common misconception and a lot of barbers take flack for that.

    @DpLogan good comment.cutting with the grain promotes waves by having longer hairs mix with the shorter hairs. you can cut against the grain but only on people who have waves naturally. with that being said if someone has to work hard for waves atg will most likely piss them off because they will be gone.

  • @semajbowens
    @semajbowens 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @dariogpb @2XAllState you are so right. Ive been licensed since '93 and I agree with you 100%. Against the grain is a cleaner cut. With the grain will not cut the hair even. The blades push some of the hair down and it doesnt get cut. Now with that said, it doesnt mean that cutting the hair with the grain is wrong. It really depends on the type of cut and what the customer wants. I always ask if its ok if I cut it against the grain and explain what the difference is.

    I cut against the grain ones on the back of the neck line ( it went bald )... Ended up having to fade it... So it all depends on the hair. This young man knows what he is doing. I have been in the business 27 years. Instead of taking the negative and bashing it in a vocal manner. Take the positive. He is giving you and run with it. Thank you. If you ever want to visit out barbershop. Holla!

    You went a little too high on balding out the taper, but you fixed and gave him a clean blend. Solid work. I don't know why you have so many haters though. The second they see a barber's mess-up there all over it. Instead of discouraging other barbers we should be supporting. People like that aren't going to advance in this business. Peace.
