Thank you. I say 4 minute burn time because it's the lowest I've seen. Some burn for about 6 minutes. I'm working on another type that I think will burn 8-10 minutes
Thank you, I appreciate that. Thank you for watching and Thank you for subscribing. I appreciate the support. I'm working on another fire starter right now that I believe is gonna burn 8 to 10 minutes!
😂 it was actually a long hair with snow on it and I didn't notice it till 3 minutes later when I reviewed the clip and I said "the hell with it I'll keep it real". Sticks out like a sore thumb though. 😂 thanks for watching
Why is it that these camping videos always have people starting a fire with a spark lighter? What’s wrong with carrying a bic lighter? I’ve always carried a couple sheets of newspaper to start the kindling. Served me well over the years. I guess they think it makes them look more Manley.
You're right! I just told my brother yesterday that me and everyone else always does that even we know so many different ways to start fire. I always have lighters with me too. I guess it's just resourceful thing. Minimum effort, saves our lighters.
Probably, mostly, because it's fun. Sure, Bic lighters are best, but they can, and will, fail. Drop one in a lake, river, or snow. Ferro rods don't fail.
I've often wondered if a b I c lighter can be recovered in a scenario where you fell thru ice and are completely soaked. I think the flint wheel might drag more water in while you roll it to dry the flint. This is why I carry a ferro rod, and I use it often to stay sharp because it does take a bit of coordination and I want that muscle memory.
@@jessekelley9384 if your Bic lighter gets submerged you can blow it out the best you can and then roll the striker wheel across a dry surface a few times really fast and it will dry the flint and striker enough to be able to light it. I'll try to throw a video up about it today or tomorrow. It'll be a short
@ravencreekoutdoors7775 I have seen it done. Ferro is just my personal fav because if I need fire that baby will spark. It's probably mostly just that I have been using a ferro for a very long time. Happy Trails!
Yes, it does work. I just prefer not to use it. The only reason I don't use lint is because it is mostly synthetic materials from our clothes that aren't 100% cotton and hair from us and our pets. Thanks for sharing that, I hope other viewers read your comment. Thanks for watching friend. Hope to see you on my channel more.
Enjoyable video. I’m old, fat and lazy. I have a thought or a suggestion. I like to keep a short amount of cordage around my carry handle on the pack. Simple loop on both ends. When I get to where I’m going I loop around a tree and suspend the bag from carry handle. Keeps my bags away from the ticks and such. Also I don’t have to bend over to get stuff. I’ve never used a chainsaw, I feel like my life is a lie. And I’m jealous of all that firewood lol. I’m about to surf some more of your vids. Rock on. Jay creature. (This message was sent with positivity and respect)
Thanks friend. Normally I hang my packs from the trees, but I had extra gear with me and my pack was 50 lbs (I was lazy this time) and I was in a huge hurry to get wood done. I only brought a chainsaw these last couple trips because of the size of the downed trees and limbs, cutting through 8 to 12 inch logs with a 6 inch folding saw sucks. Haha, I'm too old for that and I needed wood fast. Also, the older I get the more I realize that since I'm out there to enjoy myself, a chainsaw gives me more time to do that. I hope to hear from you on more videos, thanks for watching friend.
@@ravencreekoutdoors7775 I live in the Catskills so I get to hike a lot. I have access to the A.T. But I’m not sure that’s my crowd :) Look up “the Devils path” if you get a minute. That’s very close to my house :)
Awesome. Thanks for the tip friend. I always hold it above the tinder and pull the rod back, or put the rod on the tinder and scrape it with the knife. I'll definitely do that, I appreciate the tip!!!!
I wonder if I could dunk a cotton swab in alcohol, dry it, then dunk it in hot wax, would that be the same as those fire starters? Or maybe gasoline, also great video, subbed and liked
Gasoline will eat the wax I believe. Alcohol might work, never tried it, but Alcohol is able to evaporate and permeate through quite a few different materials.
That tarp is awesome! Kalinko Hammocks, the DD 3x3m. They have brown and green. Not sure what the price is now, but 5 years ago when I bought it they were $70 on Amazon
I'll do some as soon as work picks back up and I can bring good food out there with me. I'd love to put a beef roast on a spit and cook potatoes in the coals, maybe make some bread. Damn, this conversation is making me hungry 😂
@@ravencreekoutdoors7775 you got it! I might actually head out tonight myself, but we're in the January thaw, ain't got no real winter in New York yet anyway.
@@OutlawCamper we're having a pretty mild winter in Southern Michigan this year too. We had mild winters for about 30 years, and got hammered the past 8
I did a video dipping it in a glass of water then pouring the water over it, then lighting it. It was 13 seconds shy of a 6 minute burn while laying in the snow. I don't have a reason, need, or want, to boast. Watch the video "introducing my waterproof fire starters". Thanks for your input, and thanks for watching.
