I didn't expect to find this video so interesting. I also didn't expect it to be so different depending on the country. I once got a speeding ticket and I just had to pay a fine, that was all

In Denmark if you go more than 200 km/h or 100% above speedlimit and above 100 km/h (E.G. In the city) it is called crazy driving or reckless driving you risk to loose your license and get the car you drove in confiscated no matter who owns the car.
There are examples of a leasing company that leased out the car to another company that was driven by a employee whoes boyfriend drove too fast and got the car confiscated.

It's crazy to me how strict the speed limits in the UK are. Where I'm from you can easily go +10km/h over the speed limit and they don't care.

Wow, the speed limit must be super strict in the UK. Here in the US, I regularly do 10 ish MPH over the speed limit on interstates and people are zooming by me even faster…. Worth noting that I’ve never gotten a speed ticket since I got my license at 17 (22 now)

I’m the US we can go like 10 over the speed limit and get left with just a warning, and I don’t think speeding tickets are 6 points down here
In MD, at least, speeding tickets are just 2 points, not 6. Might depend on state, though

A speeding ticket is so different in the UK than in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, we are allowed to go 3 km over the speed limit and we don’t have to do a course unless you go 30 km over the speed limit. We only have to pay a fine
In the us you can go 5mph over the speed limit and it is actually encouraged here
Just over 3 years ago I received a penalty notice from HM Constabulary informing me that I had exceeded the 30 mph by 6. It was interesting because my understanding (rightly or wrongly) that you were allowed a discretionary ‘over the limit’ of 10%. Tough if true. However I took the drivers awareness course and also found it very interesting.😇🇬🇧
Generally most speed cams are set to 5mph over, so if you do 5mph you get a fine+3 points if you do 4mph over your good (not 6 points witch he said in the video) , you get 4-6 points if your 10-19 mph over (3 if you 1-9mph over) and only offered the speed awareness course if your under 9mph and haven't taken the course in last 3 years if you have you get 3point+fine
if your 20mph+ over there is posable have your licence banned for 1 and half years (not one month like in the USA) and the 6 to 9 points that start when you get your licence back and they stay there for 3 years
UK has 12 points max but really its 4 points because there is nothing that gets you 1-2 points
I did luck out recantly because a low paid police officers had the new police van in a gun speed gun (its blue, all the pod has to do is aim down the road and it automatically measures speed and issues fines automatically in fraction of a second) they was pointing it down a road that should be 40mph (witch is why they was there £££) I am 90% sure I was doing 33-34mph but never got anything in the post
In Germany 6mph would just be 10€ and nothing more
this is actually a great way of reducing speeding
in belgium you just get fined, which means that basically the rich are allowed to speed anywhere they want as long as they dont mind paying
It's so interesting how everything works in different countries. Just the fact that you make a video about it and tell what you do. In germany everyone knows what happens if you get caught speeding. And also no one is embarrassed when they get caught its kind of normal here.
Edit: You also just have to pay and don't have to do a course. If you were speeding too much you drivers license is gone.

I literally had to do this like last month, funnily enough I was also caught speeding in Wales, specifically Cardiff. I went around 11 miles above the speed limit, but I find it very interesting if I had met one of my favourite TH-camrs on a bloody Speed Awareness course lmao

It amazes me that they’ll ticket for that little over the speed limit in the UK. Maybe just cultural differences but in Canada speed limits are definitely more of a recommendation. In a 100km/h you could easily go 110-120km/h straight past the police without having to worry, they’ll really only ticket for really excessive speed.
You're saying km/h, thos is mph, each one mph is much greater than one km/h but North Wales Police state that they give no leeway any more on certain cameras so I assume very little on the others.

You handled this so well, I wonder if the course covered how to know different speed limits in other countries? Like you said, long 10 mile roads in the uk are 60mph, but in wales it's 40 - did the course cover how to remember/spot signs etc? Or was it all about safety rather than avoiding speeding?
Also £94 plus 4/5 hours off work to take a course is so unrealistic for a lot of people right now. Hopefully everyone drives safer and more carefully.
Still cheaper than the fine though. On a side note if you do the fine then you have to send the license off to them until you pay the fine. The course covers English roads and how to spot speed limits in rural area and non rural area where there are no speed limit markings

In case you wish for full clarification, there is a section of temporary speed limit for roadworks on the A55 at 40mph, it’s usually 70 in most parts unless it drops to 50 passing through residential areas

I swear wales is so much more strict about speeding tickets than other parts of the UK, my dad had taken me and my siblings on holiday to wales and during our time in wales he got a speeding ticket there, none elsewhere tho

I'm from the US and (most) high ways that are set at the speed of around 40 have never given me trouble going over the limit. I've driven past cops going 45-50 and never had a problem. A lot of the cops even go that speed themselves. It's a little ridiculous that you were cited for going 6 over on an long, non-windy stretch of road.

Up to ~20km/h over, you just get fined and/or point on your license, no course necessary. Above that is where it gets bad.
As Jack mentioned you can take a course as an alternative to a fine and points.

That's what I was thinking. I can't remember a time I've gone 40 in a 40 lol. Closer to 50 is the usual it seems for almost everyone, even the police themselves.

Jack, actually you cannot receive a ticket unless you are 10% + 2mph over the speed limit. So in a 40 zone, the limit for a ticket is 46… interesting.
It is the 10% plus 2 rule of you want to search it up.

You're responsible for it still, you accepted the EULA that says that you're responsible for anything the Autopilot does. You need to be as alert as without it when using it.

I live near that area, the road you were driving on is a duel carriageway and it's usually a 70 but there have been roadworks there for over a year? 2 years now maybe? and there are 40 signs all along that road lol. There are 3 speed cameras on each side of the road. (3 going north direction and 3 going south direction) and they are bright yellow cameras! How did ya miss them!
So glad you took the course makes sense ,in wales through those road works are set to about 41 mph so no leeway on the average speed cams .39 is a better bet for there and you are one of thousands to be caught in the slowest roadworks known to man .the contractors must be on day rates as there is no urgency to finish .take care especially in North wales the camera is going to getcha

Hi Jack, I'm from that area roughly and the road in question is the A55 between Llanfairfechan and Bangor (those are the two main areas) it's quite a common road to get a speeding ticket on as they're doing road works and have been for the last roughly 6 years.. No clue how they're still doing them, but hopefully this clears up your confusion on where it is

What a tedious process! I drove 89kmh in a 50kmh area in Finland and just got my license removed from me and a 200€ fine, Minor speeding fines would be less costly but nothing else needs to be done apart from paying the fine.

Last week I was on a road trip in a rented Tesla, I was merging back onto the Interstate from a Rest Area, my son says "Dad you know you are doing 105 MPH " Opps, I was not even at the gore point yet, had about another 100 yards to go and still more throttle under the peddle. I backed off, I thought it was nice for all the other cars on the Interstate to begin slowing down in order for me to merge (from my 105 mph perspective that what it looked like)
I commute along that stretch of road to Bangor. It's currently an average speed 40 because of the roadworks they're doing, which is where you would have been nicked.

In the USA (At least, Michigan) nobody cares if you're doing up to like 10mph over. Even then, they usually write the ticket for 1-5mph over. Its $125 and one point on your license. (One of twelve possible points, more points are bad, consequences start at eight points)
