Just one doubt mam , why do bank lend money to RBI at reverse repo at lower interest rate instead of lending it to customer at higher rate.
Are banks bound to do that ? I understand this is to absorb the liquidity but banks will be in more profit if they lend it to customer at higher rate instead of RBI at lower rate.
2. Why do Bank sell G-sec through OMO while it is easy to pledge at RBI and take loans in repo rate. I mean why does selling of G-sec situation arise while both RBI and bank can pledge with each other at repo and reverse repo rate.Please explain. 🙏
Answer 1.. Bank can not disobey RBI . If RBI ordered that you have to give money in RBI rather than customer then bank must obey it
And second reason of reverse repo is if bank lends to customer like vijay malya there is probability of default while in RBI, Bank money will be safe
Answer 2..In Repo and Reverse Repo time period is short but in OMO . bank can pledge their securities for long term and can deal with situations easily
