- DeKalb County police say they are following several leads to search for the gunman who injured a UPS driver in the parking lot of a food depot on Redan Road.

My husband and I had just literally left this store before this happened. I recall seeing the ups driver waiting for his food. We were wondering what happened when we saw police rushing towards that direction. Prayers and blessings to this gentleman. The violence in this area is absolutely terrifying. You really have to be situationally aware and alert. She's right you can't trust anyone.
A crazy threatened to shoot me back in 2008 because I would not go in the convenience store and buy him a beer. I never seen this man before in my life. I have avoided that area ever since. As well as the Intercity areas.

I'm a delivery driver (Not UPS) I recently had a confrontation with a woman. Pull up to her house, take some packages to her door, knock and walk away. I go around the backside of my vehicle to close it and when i turn back around here is this lady standing face to face with me screaming WTF was i doing at her door. I told her i was making a delivery, your package is right there beside your door. She had to see it, no way she couldn't have. She continued to scream at me and was right up in my face, just inches away. Basically squaring off with me. I seriously thought i am gonna have to fight this chick and im a guy! I quickly back off and walk the other way around my vehicle, jumping in the passenger side and locking the door. She pounds on it, keeps cussing and walks off back into her house. I made a report and supposedly we will never deliver there again. Moral of my story-people are insane and you never know where you will run into one. I don't know what has happened but the insanity level has drastically increased over the past 20-30 years.
When you remove God out of society these things are the result.

This is starting to happen more and more. People are so disrespectful to these drivers UPS, FedEx, USPS, Amazon ect. These guys always get people talking crap to them, people flipping them off on the road and yelling at them when they show up to deliver packages at peoples homes. Many people talk crap to these guys then pull their phones out to try to get them fired for no reason. People don't realize that without these kind of drivers nobody would get their goods and the world would be screwed. People forgot that when COVID-19 started they shut everything down and guess who everyone had to depend on? THEM.

As a UPS driver the company cant really do that much other than let us be armed. the trucks dont have AC so them giving us locked doors would be useless in the summer.
AC should be demanded by all drivers👈🏽👀

You think with one UPS driver, dying last month, and one passing out from heat exhaustion, two days ago, that they would realize that air conditioning is a necessity in this heat.
I was a UPS delivery driver and am still a member of the union. I can’t think of anything the union or the company could do in this situation. There are deranged people everywhere. I hope he has a speedy recovery and that the union takes care of him.
I have everything delivered to my home since 2011 & I love UPS, FedEx, the Post office & Doordash.

I’ve been a delivery driver in Atlanta for 15 years. And I’m a be honest if I had to deliver again in Atlanta SW, Stone Mountain, Decatur, Lithonia. I would quit. It’s impossible to just do your job, I had to carry a gun in those areas
This is why people should be allowed to carry guns. Criminals should face a serious threat any time they want to commit a crime. It would be great if the news was filled with stories of criminals being smoked by citizens. It is abundantly clear that the police cannot protect citizens.

I worked for UPS for 23 years and it’s the same story. UPS DOES NOT CARE, I had a person pull a gun on me last week, and all I got was a “what did you do to have him pull a gun on you?” The company only cares about the stockholders

After the driver died from heatstroke in Cali a couple of weeks ago, a lot of people I talked to were shocked to hear that many trucks don't have a/c. I think they thought management has a heart! 🤣 Stay safe out there.

As far back as the stagecoach days, there were armed robbers. Back then, stagecoach drivers carried firearms to protect their passengers and freight which included “strong boxes” loaded with money.
Judges need to keep criminals behind bars for lengthy sentences when crimes are committed with guns.
The stagecoach didn't seize your parts from the gun store, cause it's danger and stuff.

@@ez1913 my point was, firearms were used to protect their passengers and valuables even back in the stagecoach days. My comment had nothing to do with seizing anything.
I think you read too far in my comment. I also don’t think an innocent driver should pay the price for what their company decided to do. I’ll tell you this, if it comes down to violence like this, you can bet politicians on both sides will continue to pass more restrictive laws no matter what. Law abiding citizens should do what they can to prevent situations like this incident. It just takes a few assholes to ruin it for everybody.
The government needs to build the biggest baddest prison in the middle of some giant wilderness area in Alaska,to send all the newest murderers to. Somewhere they barley have to guard because they could never survive due to the starving polar bears and the cold.

You don't need protection on the road, WE ALL need to stop letting criminals out of jail and prison. Guarantee the person that committed this crime is a convicted felon, and more than likely was released early and probably wasn't sentenced to a long enough prison sentence in the first place. I live in N. California, we have some of the strictest gun laws in the nation and yet, when a criminal is rearrested and has an illegal and often times stolen gun on him, he is back out in days if not hours. It isn't the police's failure, its the judicial system that is failing the public. The NASCAR driver that was just stabbed to death while simply pumping gas would still be alive if the person that committed the crime would have served his entire sentence for a previous violent armed crime. Start holding judges and parol boards responsible and this will quit happening

I worked for UPS and know how hard the drivers work. He was just waiting for his food and some person decides to shoot him for no reason. My heart is heavy. It’s getting so bad people can’t go out anymore for fear something bad will happen. I like what the woman said at the end of the piece about turning yourself in because they will be found. I am one of those people who will be glad when that happens. To the victim and family, I have and will continue to pray for a speedy and full recovery.
Go back to the good old days, where the stagecoach had someone riding shot gun.

Arming the drivers isn't the solution. They are not soldiers. Just suspend delivery to that zip code for a year for any incident. Or put in a local pickup point with security measures where the people have to pick their own items up.

As a petroleum tank wagon driver,our company will not allow us to carry. Don’t like it,as I have concealed carry permit,and carry when on personal time. Long story,but have defended myself,no shots fired.
UPS and FedEx drivers should be trained with pistols and legal to carry and protect themselves.

I deliver for the company as a package driver here in Canada.
I carry pepper spray in my pocket at all times to have that extra level of protection.

There needs to be 35 year mandatory minimum for ANY crime where a gun is involved, whether it's fired or not. If someone robs with a gun they should get a mandatory 35 years! Even if the gun wasn't fired!!! If it was fired there should be a 50 year minimum. If the shot hits someone there should be a mandatory life sentence. Even if the victim survives. If some is caught with an illegal gun there should be a mandatory minimum 15 year sentence just for having it.
How about mandatory sentencing for the legal owner of that gun who sold it to the criminal or failed to secure it against theft?
