It's great that you can break the song down and play bits of it really well, especially at the same time as you're watching it, but I'd have to recommend just listening/watching/enjoying the whole experience too. Their music washing over you without thought, just feeling it, is good for the soul! It's why they are THE best Hard Rock band on Earth.
I understand your amazing guitar skills and analytical skills, but I wanted to hear your thoughts on BAND-MAID. I'm sure you've already noticed this, but Kanami, the guitar player of BAND-MAID, is a genius that can't be described in a technical or logical sense. And the same can be said for the band as a whole. Next, please give us your thoughts on BAND-MAID. I'm looking forward to it.
Hey Sam ! Welcome to the world of Band-Maid ! You have quite an ear for music, it was a pleasure to see you figure things out. Glad to have you with us on this journey. Thanks Roger !
You did quite an impressive job of dealing with the Riff Goddess and her layered guitar parts. Picked up the skeleton of the song in one go. 👍🏽 No shoe-gazers allowed! Band Maid is a fusion hard rock band with no egos and no fear in their composing. Their instrumentals are as interesting as anything else you’d come across these days. “From Now On,” or “Without Holding Back” are two of my favorites. Look forward to hearing more Band Maid! 🤘🏽
I also thought about instrumentals immediately, especially those "White Room Training Videos". The most shocking one for me was Giovanni, I never realised before what Kanami is doing there in the background.
@@VladimirChupin Agree completely. Giovanni was eye opening. Things like that are what frustrates me with their producers and engineers. Mincho does so much, so well, so buried in the mix!
Good news, you and Justin Hawkins have something in common. Bad news, it's trying to figure out Kanami's chord structure. "Something like that, with some riffy stuff." 😂
Kinda realised this as I was watching back while editing. Probably need to actually say what I think of the song in the future. Thought it was great. Didn’t blow me away, but was enjoyable! Some cool moments and layers.
@@samthomlinsonmusic I always like watching musicians react to bands. You trying to figure out key parts of the song and play along with it is probably a much bigger compliment than any words you could say.
You have great skills at this but a few suggestions...let the guitar solo finish so the viewers can hear what the guitarist (Kamani) is trying to do. Then go back and dissect it. Also I know you are a guitarist but some comments on the rest of the band would be interesting. Misa (bass) is doing some interesting stuff, Akane (drums) is always changing up the drum patterns and the two of them work together so well. Also, the vocal arrangement between Saki (lead vocal) and Miku (background vocals/rhythm guitar) are worth commenting on. Also, your thoughts and impressions of the band as a whole - the costumes, the live show, their skill and talent etc. The reason I say this is because you clearly know your stuff which makes me want to hear what you have to say. I feel you probably would have some valuable insights. So many reaction videos are people just going - "this is fire" or "I really liked this" So when I see someone who clearly understands music I want to hear what they have to say. I mean all of this in the most positive way possible. I think your channel has real potential and could be great. Thanks.
You don't go to an art museum and show everybody you can copy Rembrandt. The thing with reviews is I love hearing what other people think of the art. Watching reviewers on YT, I have discovered so much I never would have found on my own. As a 60 year old guitarist I can break down the songs too. Many of us have skill copying other peoples Art, but few of us can write things people will pay money to hear.
Would love to see your breakdown of the Japanese Band Nemophila and their song Raitei next! The live or the MV whatever you prefer. thanks for the Band Maid breakdown too!

I love Band-Maid but hane you heard of the band Sokoninaru from Japan - the song 'Tenohira De Odoru"【Official Music Video】th-cam.com/video/n7MyoBki9wk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6buYh42zMQ03-Emp
Ok, you have a very good ear and are a good guitarist. However, good reactors do comment on how the music affects them personally and why they feel that way. Is the song coherent and well-constructed? Does the song trigger emotions and if so, which ones? Besides the obvious lead guitar, there are other instruments played by the other band members that produce a cohesive whole. Rhythm guitar, bass, drums and the wonderful lead and backing vocals contributing to the song should be at least mentioned. Since you are a musician, you should be able to comment on those instruments in detail. This review seems to be more like a very narrow breakdown effort on one instrument rather than a true reaction. There is a lot that makes up a good reaction and it shouldn't be limited to just a technical slog through a very narrow musical lens which misses the entire point of the song. Also, the lyrics are in Japanese and English, but there are easily found translation that describe the deep emotional point of the story manifested in the song. Just limiting your review to one single aspect is certainly fine as its your channel, however, I sense that you are capable of much more. Musicians are a very valuable resource as they have the knowledge and experience to give much insight into the finer points of music appreciation which helps the listening community greatly. Doing a good review and reaction is not as easy as it looks, but like anything, the more work one puts in on it, the better one gets. I hope I don't sound too critical but at least I did not downvote you, which is good. However, if you want me to subscribe and spend time with you on your channel, you must do better. Take care and be well.
well that was different, i thought it was going to be a reaction to the music track as a whole, you know. the band, the musicianship, that kind of thing, but what i saw was someone showing off how well he can hear a chord and never mention the band even once, this was not a reaction it was you playing with your guitar in front of the camera, no sub for you
Please don’t take it as an attack or dislike of the band. It’s honestly only the second time I’ve done a video like this. I was hoping that I was breaking down some the theory for people. But obviously I’ve missed the mark. I’ll try and do better in the future. I really enjoyed the song and the band. And I’ve actually watched some more of there stuff since and really dig it. Especially Dice. All the best.
Fair criticism. I definitely appreciate the song. But I’m also very new to this and obviously spent too much time just analyzing some of the guitar parts, and not talking about the song itself. I’ll try to do better in the future.
Yes. In hindsight a pretty terrible “reaction” video.
Overall I dug it. But sorry about the reaction part. Will try do better in the future 😞
4k views in 24 hours. Seems to have gone over well 😊 Band Maid!

No shedding in your home just shredding. Your cats in the background. Good job on your first and hopefully not your last BAND-MAID reaction ☮️🙂🐱🇨🇦

Suggestions: Band-Maid From now on MV 😉 You will enjoy it I promise 😉
Oh come on 😂 That's trolling 😂
Good news, you and Justin Hawkins have something in common. Bad news, it's trying to figure out Kanami's chord structure. "Something like that, with some riffy stuff." 😂
Even better news. Sam beats Justin because he at least didn't get confused about the time signature.
@@kicorse very true!
well done nailed it in first try
Try Band-Maid's instrumental "From Now On" if you'd like further practicing.
Not a single comment in this reaction about the song or the band. Worst reaction ever. 👎
Fair! Will try actually include some reacting in the future…
That was my thought exactly after watching this video. 🙄
So now we know you can play the guitar, but one question remains: what did you actually think about the song? 🤔
Kinda realised this as I was watching back while editing. Probably need to actually say what I think of the song in the future.

Typical of Roger not to turn up for his own shout out. Tch😒 Having said that what an awesome song he suggested. Cheers Sam & absent Rog.👍

You are good. Kanami does this when she sleeps.
HEY ROGER 👍🎖
Iwas wondering if you enjoyed the song?
Fair question considering I definitely didn’t talk about that enough. Definitely enjoyed it.
Nice breakdown!
Band Maid. Why play it the same again when you can switch it up.
I'm not entirely sure which tuning they use in this song, but I think it's drop D tuned down a half step (C#).
SPHINXES!
Bro u already practiced 😬
They play a lot of songs in drop-D.
Listen to the bass and guitar in "Mindset" by Gacharic Spin.
Okay. I just checked this out. Wow. Incredible. Definitely doing something on this song soon.
If you could just do Kanami's part you could be a Maid boss 😊

Just look up puzzle official live. Should be the first one.
It is from Tokyo Garden Theater January 2023.
