Getting er done, Stick, your doing great! Thanks for bringing us on your journey.
I hope you figure out your tent soon.
✌️🫶
I have been watching for 78 days and looking forward to your arrival in NJ…welcome! We are honored to host you on our little section of the AT. I was thrilled to see how much you enjoyed Sunfish Pond.
“For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.”
Beautiful song! Yes, Sunfish Pond might be my favourite memory from the state.
I'm so glad you're excited about NJ. The shelters are only located in the NJ state parks and private lands. the 1st few miles in NJ are in a national recreation area with only camping spots. The difference is State maintained land and Fererally maintained land.
I know by now you've already past the High Point HQ and I was sorry I missed you. I did see your friends Lyric and Frizzel and enjoyed a nice chat with them on the observation platform. I gave them some garlic spice to add to the "rom bomb" and few other snacks.
I've really enjoyed watching your journey and enjoy your positive attitude. Be safe and happy hiking.
Oh cool! Glad that you met them!
And thanks for the information on the shelter spacing.
Thank you for sharing your hike 🚶!
Thanks for watching!
Great to see there was room for you in the shelter. Wish you had a better tent for the rainy weather . STAY SAFE. CARPE DIEM
Thanks 👍
Congrats on reaching NJ! Slowest you have ever taken that bridge, but also the most rewarding! Congrats on the big day and making the shelter. Was also curious on room, but saw the dry porch location in the comments ... way to go!!
Those are gypsy moth caterpillars. They make the big white nests that can envelop large parts of trees.
Putting in some hard miles on the last bit of whatever is left of those shoes huh? The new Topo shoes will feel extra good! Hope you get them soon. I have just started wearing barefoot shoes and the difference is pure magic! Stick , you are really trekking along strong with all that is being thrown at you! Inspiring stuff here! Great post as usual- thanks! 🏃♀️🌱🌿🧘🏼🙏
Definitely am looking forward to feeling the difference! I hope you enjoy your new barefoot shoes!!
Congratulations on another state to check off the list. I'm following several thru hikers and you are leading the pack to Maine!
Who else are you following?
@@sticktheeagle World Towning, Mel (Gadget) and Wafflehikes.
@@markswishereatsstuff2500 I hiked with Gadget when I was in Georgia. It was great to meet her and have her encouragement when I was brand new to this.
Stick keep the faith and keep on truckin
Stick, the irony of all of the caterpillars that you see? They are called tent caterpillars.
Interesting. I wonder how they got that name.
@@sticktheeaglebecause they build “tents” in certain types of trees whose leaves they consume on their way to their next stage of life. You’ll see their dense cobweb looking “tents” in trees they prefer.
@@wanttogo1958 ohhh so they are the ones who build those!
@@sticktheeagleyes. They can do a lot of damage to trees.
Stick I bought same tent and when researching it before I bought it, I read that it has been waterproofed and or seem sealed at the factory. With what has happened to you I will be waterproofing it before I take it out on a trip. Sorry to hear and see how wet your tent has gotten.😣
That’s probably a good idea!! I might figure out how to waterproof it at some point too.
@@sticktheeagletreating it with Nikwax Solarproof may help some for awhile. I’m not a fan of that tent though.
Your views remind me of the lakes region in NH. Mount major in Alton.
Was that a tent inside the shelter?
😮
Keep on hiking you are doing wonderful ❤❤
Yes it is! We didn’t meet him until the next morning.
when you get to town get a piece of heavy polyethelene to make a tarp to put your tent under
I have had the same thought
Thanks for sharing some "etiquette"... was that a tent in the shelter? Hope to see you resolve your tent issue and to finally get some new shoes. Be safe & Happy Trails! 🥾🎒🗻🌲🪨🌧💚🙂🥾
I hope for those two things too! Thank you!
Hi Stick! Bummer about all the rain. Did you get new shoes yet?
Still working on it
Good bye Pennsylvania! New Jersey is short, lots to see. Only place I saw 👀 a bear 🐻 on trail. How do you like your bear 🐻 canister?
I really enjoy the convenience of not having to do a bear hang. I would recommend it.
Wow, this day brings back some memories from our section hike last year. The blooming trees in that little park by I-80 were SO beautiful and the woods were so enchanting! We stayed the first night at the Mohican Outdoor Center, which was super nice. We had a nice tent platform. The second night we camped on an old access road off the trail that satisfied all the Delaware Water Gap NRA rules. It was pouring rain for most of this trip and it ended badly, but it was still so enjoyable anyway! Just past that technical climb on that bedrockish part is where I broke my leg. (Now I'm all recovered.) Haha, you sure were excited to see that New Jersey state line! I can't believe you're still managing to wear those shoes with all those holes in them!
Wow, what a memory! That’s terrible that you broke your leg there. The rain doesn’t sound fun either. But so glad that you can retain some positive memories from there!
❤
Brian, how does your family, your mom, dad and siblings enjoy your hiking experience on the trail?
They are supportive of helping me get to and from trail now when needed!!
Uncle is SO excited for Stick! Bought the AT Guide to follow along, watching other videos to "scout" the trail, sending resupplies, tracking progress and stats in an excel spreadsheet, etc. So excited that Stick is filming so much so that we can follow along with him and I have watched every minute.
Thanks uncle steve
Also, what do you recommend for rain gear on AT?
REI Marmot and rain pants work well for me! I think I will change at some point to a zpacks rain cover though.
