    My Nissan Qashqai's cruise hasn't been working for the past 7 - 8 months, taken car to different garages and they kept saying issue was with button.
    Took the car to a friends garage and got told to buy this specific part (one seen being changed in the video) was able to find it and buy it on eBay for £30. Replaced the part using this video. Very useful, Thank you.

    @6:34 This is the steering angle sensor. Make sure you do not rotate the inner white bit (use tape to lock in place) and orientate it back onto the replacement clockspring. If you do this the replacement will be plug and play. If the Steering Angle Sensor is rotated, it will cause your VRD to fail when driving and the only way to sort the issue is to have the SAS re-calibrated.

    I remember going to GM training classes for air bags back in the 90s. The procedure they give is to disconnect the battery, then pull the fuse,then have one of those ground straps around your wrist. Then you can carefully remove the bag. Now carrying it with the bag away from you, lay it bag up on a non metalic bench. Install a saftey barrier 10 feet from the bag and a crossing gaurd to help people pass safely!!! lol. They were SO worried about them going off with static electricity. I've never seen non had a problem working it hot like you do. Nothing to worry about when working on an air bag system. The only thing to remember is that the circuit carries a 36 volt current. The DERM module has a capacitor that hold 36 volts for the 36 volt loop even after the battery has been disconnected. Thats why they say disconnect the battery and wait an hour to give the circuit time to discharge before working on the system. But time is money and I say work it hot!!! Keep Rocking!!!

      Also for anyone that’s looking to clear the airbag light without the scanner:
      1. Turn ignition on.
      2. Wait until the airbag light goes off (before it starts blinking again).
      3. Immediately turn ignition off and wait 5 seconds.
      4. Repeat steps 1-3 five more times.
      5. Start her up and the code should now be off permanently.

When I put it on the first time I must have rotated the SAS a turn to make it fit in the slots and the ESP light came on when the wheel was turned to the right. Had to do it again to get sensor on correctly. If you have the Nissan software it doesn't really matter because you can just calibrate it, but I didn't have it.

    what is a "clock spring" ? I have had to take that shroud off my Subarus from time to time, they area a bear to get back together , I bought my last Subaru as a parts car, it had been hit in the front and popped the air bags,, I decided to drive the car, it wasn't badly damaged in the front, I put good air bags in but the light still don't go out, I never checked the fuse , I guess it might be that.

    • @blackwell1384
      @blackwell1384 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      MissouriOldTimer The clock spring hard wires all the steering wheel controls. When the horn was the only thing that had to work when the steering wheel moved it was often wired with a contact that brushed on a disk. Once the airbag was added to the steering wheel the quality of the connection needed to be improved so it, and all those controls on a modern steering wheel, run thru a clock spring. This is a retractable wiring harness that is inside the drum he removes from behind the wheel. What he does on this car is make sure the car is pointing straight ahead when this is removed and installed. There is no extra wire and if it isn’t timed correctly you can destroy the wiring in the clock spring by turning to the short side.

      Good answer.

    • @rockerpat1085
      @rockerpat1085 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And to add my two cents. The reason it's called a "clock spring " is because when you look down at the ribbon of wire coiled up, it looks like a clock spring. There's no actual spring inside of this part. Just a flat ribbon of wire coiled up so it can coil tighter when you turn the wheel one way and loosen the other. Keep Rocking!!!
