Indoor Street View STEP-BY-STEP Shooting Tutorial

  • MAGIC BOX:
    September 2020 update: I would recommend using Theta Z1 instead of One X for virtual tours.
    In this video I go over my process of shooting an indoor Street View tour. Many of these principles will also apply to regular Virtual Tours. I hope to help you in any way I can to make better street view, wether it's as a hobby or as a business.
    1. I suggest shooting Street View tours while the store is open. It makes for a more natural feeling and people are used to seeing people in Street View with their faces blurred.
    2. Plan your shoot with a blue print or a sketch that you make of the store. This helps with pricing and also when you are shooting you can cross out places that you have shot so you don't forget anything.
    3. When shooting indoor take a photo every 3-5 meters (or in same cases 10 meters). Most important thing is to have a line of sight between shots. My rule is to shoot as few photos as I can and as many as I need.
    4. Before every shoot you need to clean your camera lens with a microfiber cloth and do a gyroscope calibration. Shoot in either HDR or RAW depending on your preference. I shoot in HDR.
    5. Camera should be at eye-level or 150 cm/5 feet.
    6. Keep doors open that you go through in the virtual tour. Always take a few door stoppers with you.
    7. Take a few shots outside the store as close to the street as possible. This gives you a small chance of it automatically connecting to the Street View car.
    8. Face the stitch line towards something that is not very important. Usually that means turning it 45 degrees from where you are going. If you have a strong source of light then I suggest turning the stitch line towards it to get an even exposure.
    9. If you feel shy to take photos when the store is open then pretend that you own the place, then you will feel more authoritative.
    10. I make sure that there is staff at the register and if there are no customers then I sometimes pretend to be one to make the store look more busy.
    I use Insta360 One X and Manfrotto Nanopole. I would also recommend using Theta Z1.

    Hello Sir, I enjoyed watching this video ,and I am very interested. I just wanted to know how you connected the Images together when you want to upload them ?? You didn't show how can we Connect all Images ! Shouldn't we connect the Images together before uploading and publish them Via GSV app ? Please I hope you reply 😎

      Yes, if you use the app you should connect them first. But you can always connect them later if you forget.

    I really liked your video. I would like to present some basic doubts. I had some problems when connecting the photos, and I think maybe the questions below can help me next time.
    1) During the photos, does it make any difference to change the 'front' of the camera? Or is it important to always use the same lens pointing in the direction you are moving?
    2) What is the method used when the path is divided into two or more different paths?
    3) What to do when the path turns suddenly to one side or the other?

    • @streetvieweysteinn
      @streetvieweysteinn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This tutorial is explaining indoor street view. For outdoor paths I would need to do an entire video. You dont need to keep the camera facing any specific direction. Other questions Im not sure how to answere.

  • @SamGenk
    @SamGenk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    very helpfull video! only question i have. if you shoot in HDR and people are moving will it not make them blurry?

    • @streetvieweysteinn
      @streetvieweysteinn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. It depends on the camera and software you use to merge them. Most modern cameras dont produce ghosting.

  • @halffull_media
    @halffull_media 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice job. What software are you using to publish your tours to GSV? Also, have you had any problems with the arrows pointing the wrong direction after Google processes the tour?

    • @streetvieweysteinn
      @streetvieweysteinn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm using GoThru, but there are many other great options. I'll go into that probably in the next video.
      I did have that issue when publishing with the GSV app, but not after using third party apps.

    • @streetvieweysteinn

    Cheers from Brazil! Thanks you for this great tutorial. Just started 360 photograph, planning to integrate it with 360 drone shots. Just like another commenter, I'm having issues with GSV directions when uploading straight from the app. Also when you take your first photo is it in the middle of the street to connect with the indoors? Mine doesn't connect to the street. Thank you a lot.

      I do connect my outdoor shots with the indoor. They sometimes connect to the google car, but that's just luck. I never use the app to upload, it's not very user friendly. I have a video coming up next week where I show my workflow of uploading to google.

    I guess it's better to capture keeping a camera on the head and then remove yourself as a pole in photoshop later, if there is so many ppl around you are risking falling and breaking it down or just stealing by someone so no point for hiding yourself.

    • @streetvieweysteinn
      @streetvieweysteinn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did try that, it makes the camera unnaturally high and a large footprint to remove later. I was never scared of it getting stolen, but in case you are I suggest shooting when the business is closed.
