I am prepared to join the Air Reserves or Air National Guard, however, I've read that a lot of Reservists/Guardsmen who apply for civilian jobs never get a call back from prospective employers because of their Military Commitment despite having all the qualifications and skills necessary for the job. While they say it's only one weekend a month two weeks a year that is _always_ not the case. Employers know that and would rather hire someone that can be fully reliable and commit to their civilian job. I know there is the USERRA Act but that doesn't bar employers from not contacting you. They can nit-pick parts of your resume or come up with other things and use that as a reason. It even came to a point where a Reservist didn't disclose his Military Service so he can get a call back...and he did (after applying to countless jobs disclosing he's a Reservist). Yes, some people would then say, "Then you shouldn't apply for that job if the employer doesn't support your military service" or "Just go Active Duty" But what if you have no choice? I brought this up because I wanted to get some thoughts on this. I apologize and know this is out of topic of the uploaded video. Thanks.

I got less than 9 months in AD and I heard a lot of what you just mentioned on here. That's my concern about going to NG or reserves.

Cool, some facts I didn't know. After my 6 yrs ANG, it took a while to be hired as a civ policeman in Chicago area, I never thought of staying in ANG. Although after BMT/Tech School, I immediately went full time into a state university for double BA in 3 yrs (after AP & CCAF credits were applied). I should have thought more long term for Guard benefits, but didn't. Too late now, fed Gov't declared me disabled, so that's that. The major benefits were free tuition for BA, cool TDYs, travel, in-svs training out of state & Hon. Disch w/Vet benefits, despite only 6 yrs+2 yrs IRR, etc.

Definitely you get Tricare at age 60. Can also use United Health Care, which I didn't use since in my area the Drs are not part. After 65 yo, your Tricare converts to Tricare for life and medicare starts, unless you take early option. Tricare pays your medications, of most medications at $10 for 3 months. Between Tricare for life and Medicare, pays all /medical bills. Have recently been diagnosed with a neuro diease-- dysautonomia and Multi System Atrophy. No cures, no meds, no treatments for either .
