  • Blade 2 is one of the earliest Marvel films and in many ways, still one of the best! In this video I dig into the movie, Wesley Snipes, Guillermo del Toro and the Blade franchise as a whole. Check out the videos covering the other two movies too!

My Uncle jokingly asked my Grandma if she wanted to see Blade, and her not knowing what it was said yes. After they saw it My uncle assumed she didn't like it much, so when Blade 2 came out he went to see it alone, and he was telling her that he saw it, and her response was "You saw it without me?!"

Nomak was excellent. From "I hate vampires" to "It hurts no more." he had pathos and rage. He actually was tragic, the son of an uncaring egomaniac father who used him as a guinea pig and then cast him out. He was *happy* that Blade killed him. It was a wonderful reversal that he and Blade basically had the same goal.

Anyone who likes Blade 2 should check out The Strain by Guillermo del Toro. It begins slow but later in the series it starts feeling like a spiritual successor to Blade 2. It was originally supposed to last only 3 Seasons but because it was so popular FX convinced the showrunners keep it going for one more season.

@@pnwajs3532 The opposite actually. Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan we're going to end it after season 3 but FX was so happy with the show's performance that they asked them to do more. So Del Toro and Hogan decided that they could flesh things out for one more season. They didn't take it past it's fourth season because they didn't want to draw out the story too long past its natural end point.

Finally.... someone giving this movie it's due. It is one of my favorite action movies. Nearly pitch perfect!
PS - One of the things that I attribute the "weightless" "shiny rubber ball" issue to (besides the early CGI of the time), is kind of what Del Toro was going for. He said that the reason the tone was so different from the first Blade film is because he was trying to make this as close to a LIVE ACTION comic book as you can get. The tone and the world were on purpose. And some of the people who worked on the film said that it was PARTIALLY an aesthetic choice by the team to help give it the cheesy/over-the-top/unrealistic feel that many comic book action scenes have. They did admit that there were drawbacks to the CGI at the time, but they ultimately chose to use that flaw to enhance the tone.
