      Can't get audio from main fader back into protools to bounce to a stereo file...any advice

    • @danielkharrat
      @danielkharrat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Witherfall there's a easy way and a bit more complicated way. The easy way is to just plug a usb stick in the mixer then go to config and set the source to main LR. It does record a wav file but the bit depth is only 16 bits.
      The more complicated way is:
      Go to the OUT section in the routing menu, make sure that outputs 15 and 16 are assigned to Main L and Main R
      Then go to CARD and assign outputs 25-32 to Out 9-16.
      Now create a stereo track in protools set the input of it to card 31-32 and the main mix should be coming into that track

      On the inputs page assign Aux ins to card 1-6
      And in protools assign your master to usb 5-6
      That way you're receiving the protools audio on aux channels 5 and 6
      You can link them
      Connect your monitors to the monitor outputs on the back of the console (xlr or trs)
      And in the monitor page assign the monitor source to aux 5-6
      So if you're not pressing the solo button on any channel you will hear protools audio
      And if you want to solo a channel on the console you can also do that

    Hi Daniel, I am yet to get M32 and I found your channel got the most detail oriented videos about how to use this console. About this V soundcheck, this is the set up for what you got in DAW to link up to the M32 right? So this means you only need to do this once, then after that different projects on your DAW can be play through M32 right?

    • @danielkharrat

    • @danielkharrat
      @danielkharrat  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're recording into your daw that's simple just don't hit record on the first track but i assume you mean recording the main LR on a usb stick with the recorder on the front of the console. In that case it's a bit more complicated and too long to explain in a comment but you can send me a message on Instagram and explain it to you

      @@danielkharrat Wow, you can do that? That's super slick. I don't understand why anybody would want to do that, since they have ProTools running right there on their laptop, but it would be nice to know how that is accomplished. Whilst on the topic of the USB recorder on the console itself, once a multi-track recording has been recorded to PowerTools, you simply copy it over the USB drive, then plug it into the console and it can then play back the track without ProTools, right? What about the size of the file? Is there any mastering or file compression or anything that should be done after the recording on ProTools has finished?

    • @danielkharrat
      @danielkharrat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Protools expects only one external interface but since you're on mac there's something called "Aggregate I/O" if you go to setup => hardware you'll find it. This allows you to add the built-in output as if it's part of the same interface so Protools can see it. Once you turn it on, make to unmute it from the "built-in output" tab in the same hardware menu
      Then go to setup => playback engine and select the Aggregate i/o as the playback engine. You may have to save the session and restart Protools but this should work

      You need the Dante expansion card to send audio through ethernet. You cannot use the ethernet control port for audio. This is only to control your console through the app
      So if you only have the default sound card that comes with your console u have to use a usb cable for recording

    1. I an record any o the X32 inputs on its corresponding track in Pro Tools... I see sound is arriving in PT thanks to the track meter and I can see the wave form while I'm recording. I can also play back these recorded tracks through the X32... Everything seems to work fine... BUT : be it while recording or playing from PT, I don't see any entry level on the X32 meters of the tracks I'm recording. The only meters which "shows" the sound played from my synths (while recording) or from Pro Tools (during play back of recorded tracks) is the main meter on the right of the X32 screen.
    2. When I try and SOLO one of the track on the X32, it mutes the corresponding synth sound !
    Then, a third issue : When I activate DAW REMOTE on X32, I don't see the RtZ, Play, Stop... functions above the faders which are dedicated to Pro Tools
    And then, last issue :
    As all my tracks on Pro Tools are set to output 31-32, when I open a stereo master in Pro Tools, this master track won't receive any souind... Also, for whatever reason, I can not set the master to output on 31-32 which could have bring a solution. 1) are you talking about the small LED meters on top of the channel strip? Your signals may be too quiet. Do the meters light up if you're not recording or playing back?
      2) from where to where? You're hitting the solo button on the synth channel one the mixer? And it's getting muted where? In protools? On the mixer?
      3) if you have the daw control active in the setup menu and the daw remote button is turned on, on the right side of the console you have different layers. (Dcas bus 1-8 bus 9-16 matrix)
      Go through the layers and you'll see different functions on the small displays above the faders
      4) you need to go into the i/o menu in the outputs tab and on the bottom right corner you have audition path with a small speaker icon. You need to set that to 31-32 in order to be able to assign it on the master fader
      Otherwise just make a stereo aux with input set to bus 1-2 and output to usb 31-32 and just assign the output of all the tracks to bus 1-2
      So that stereo aux is your new master

I've downloaded a number of multi-track Wave files from TeleFunken (they are available and free of charge there). But I didn't see where you load a WAV file up and play it back on ProTools. How is that done? I just purchased ProTools and have zero knowledge of how to use it, so I'm a rank amateur, sorry.

    • @BjorgenEatinger
      @BjorgenEatinger ปีที่แล้ว

      I still do not understand how you did the "virtual sound check" at the end. There was suddenly music playing, but I never saw any music being recorded, assuming of course that what you are playing back, is what you just recorded. I also did not see you load a multi-track recording file on ProTools and play it back. I am not interested in recording anything at this time, as I am working in live sound and we are strictly forbidden to record any show. I just want to use ProTools to playback multi-track recordings that I either purchase get from Telefunken, and practice the techniques presented in your many videos. Frequently it is entirely possible to try things whilst out on an event, as there is zero time, and you certainly don't want to mess with a band's sound whilst they are playing I did figure out at least how to load up a file on ProTools but have not been able to figure out how to get it to playback into the console. Not sure what I am missing here.

    Hello, I have a mixer midas m32 and stagebox dl32. I connected them to AES50A, I routed the inputs to the mixer to AES50A. I have no audio input to the mixer from the dl32, while the outputs are fine. can you help me, thanks

      @ilianvlashi on the right side of the stagebox there's a light next to the word AES50 SYNC
      Is the light green or not?

      @@danielkharrat It is synchronized to A, the audio outputs from the stagebox are fine, when I insert the audio sources into the stagebox, they do not come to the mixer.

      @ilianvlashi on the inputs page did you assign 1-8 to AES50 A 1-8 and your still not receiving anything?

    How Can I receive the 32 channels from X32 and mix in Protools? I did all routes that you explained. But if a mute channel 1 on the X32 the same happens in Protools. I need to have independence between mu daw and X32

      Does the mute button on the console activate the mute button on the track in protools or does it just cut off the audio from getting to the track? Do you wanna mix in protools in real time without recording?

      @@danielkharrat thank you so much for answered. Yes! I want to mix in protools in real time. My problem is that I can’t have independent mix from X32. I receive signal in protools from X32 but if I move fader up or down in protools nothing happens

      How are you monitoring protools?
      The routing i showed in this video is to receive and send back the signal to the mixer. In your case i would keep the inputs the same (to receive from the console) but create a master fader and set the outputs of all the tracks to that one master output, that should solve it.
      But you still need to listen to that output so you would have to send it back to 2 channels on the mixer and listen through the mixer. I know that might not be the answer you're looking for but unfortunately protools doesn't let you use the computer audio at the same time so you can't plug you're headphones in your laptop. In ableton and reaper that is not a problem but protools just grabs the audio and doesn't let go. If you're using mac os there is a work around that requires you to use a third-party software i think it's called sound flower but on windows i haven't been able to find a solution (i used sound meter banana but it didn't work for me)
