Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu. Thank you, Bhante. I needed a nudge towards a new approach to practice, and suddenly this turned up in my recommended videos, more than 2-1/2 years after the original posting. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish between TH-cam's algorithms and the hand of a Deva. ;-D

Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu! Thanks for sharing. Very inspirational, the talk but also to witness his humility, integrity and compassion. I sadly never met a monk in person. And crazy how long it took me to realize that wholesome qualities won't just magically appear by the mere act or mechanics of meditation alone, but that I need to actively cultivate and nurture them..
May you all be save and well..

This is such an important talk to prepare the soil of the mind for good crops towards liberation. The cultivation of the wholesome qualities will gradually overcome the weeds of unwholesome tendencies present in the mind and facilitate joy and clarity of the way things are, to penetrate towards this clarity.
As Bhanthe said all ten paramis starting from generosity one by one make the mind spacious towards universal infinity mind, that does not keep or hold but let's through phenomena, knowing their impermanence, non self and inherent nature to cause suffering if grasped. The way things are understood ( the cause and effect process) beyond this world of birth and death, conditioned by greed, hatred and ignored. There is knowledge and liberation.

9:10 Faith is the condition for joy to arise
10:55 The meaning of Faith is “placing the heart with conviction in Buddha as fully enlightened teacher and placing trust in Dharma as the path to enlightenment and liberation”.
11:33 Condition for Faith to arise is suffering
15:18 Ways to strengthen the Faith

The volition sutta is very good, too. As Ajahn Brahmali says, it's our virtue or character (he would say and I agree, practicing kindness) overall that will lead to the beginning stages of happiness which is very palpable.

The essense of the talk wraps in numbe.r of aspects, mainly "a happy mind can focus well in samadhi and then can use that state of mind to investigate dhamma, in one's behaviour, reducing resistance, reducing delusion, greed and hatred". The best help would be if the bhantes can explain application of specific dhamma knowledge, practice to apply in 'real life' situations. It is important for mundane humans to have some positive effect on their lives by doing good deeds. And it's important for them to have support to see, believe to see this effect is happening. Becasue that's where most buddhists fail and people tend to go to other religions. It is hard to keep faith in the face of turmoils and life changing challenges.

Do I detect a slight hint of criticism? If so, it is your right of course. If not my apologies. It seems that nothing - even the highest good - is beyond the reach of this corrosive, toxic habit of which, at times, I am the worst offender. I wish you all the greatest of health, wealth and happiness. Namaste soul mates. See you "over there..."
