- You can choose love, but you can't choose family. See Crazy Rich Asians in cinemas on August 30.
Jon M. Chu (“Now You See Me 2”) directed the contemporary romantic comedy “Crazy Rich Asians,” based on the acclaimed worldwide bestseller by Kevin Kwan.
The story follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Wu) as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young (Golding), to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick’s family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life.
It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country’s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Being on Nick’s arm puts a target on Rachel’s back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick’s own disapproving mother (Yeoh) taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money can’t buy love, it can definitely complicate things.
“Crazy Rich Asians” features an international cast of stars, led by Constance Wu (“Fresh Off the Boat”), Gemma Chan (“Humans”), Lisa Lu (“2012”), and Awkwafina (upcoming “Ocean’s 8,” “Neighbors 2”), with Ken Jeong (the “Hangover” films”) and Michelle Yeoh (“Star Trek: Discovery,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”). The large starring ensemble also includes Henry Golding, making his feature film debut, Sonoya Mizuno (“La La Land”), Chris Pang (“Marco Polo”), Jimmy O. Yang (“Silicon Valley”), comedian Ronny Chieng (“The Daily Show”), Remi Hii (“Marco Polo”), and Nico Santos (“Superstore”).
Color Force’s Nina Jacobson (“The Hunger Games” films) and Brad Simpson (“World War Z”), and Ivanhoe Pictures’ John Penotti (“Hell or High Water”) produced the film, with executive producers Tim Coddington, Kevin Kwan, Robert Friedland, and Sidney Kimmel serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim, based on the novel Crazy Rich Asians, by Kwan.
The creative filmmaking team included director of photography Vanja Cernjul (“Marco Polo”), production designer Nelson Coates (“Fifty Shades Darker”), costume designer Mary Vogt (“Kong: Skull Island”) and editor Myron Kerstein (“Going in Style”). The music was composed by Brian Tyler (“Avengers: Age of Ultron”).
“Crazy Rich Asians” was filmed entirely on location in Singapore and Malaysia.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with SK Global Entertainment and Starlight Culture, a Color Force/Ivanhoe Pictures/Electric Somewhere Production, a Jon M. Chu Film, “Crazy Rich Asians.” It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Entertainment Company.
The wedding entrance has to be my best scene in the entire movie. Absolutely stunning
Yes, I agree. Also there was about eight seconds of choreographed dancing at the wedding. They should’ve put a lot more of that in there
Me too🦋
Literally the the plot of every Asian drama ever....... And I'm so here for it.
I just saw the movie today. It was Fantastic; make u laugh, cry too. Also, so many handsome and HAWT men on screen.
Yeah except it's in the big screen.
Tavi Juarez, dont put these bootleg on. Let people watch the movie at the theater. Support the movie.
Looks just like any TVB drama
Every Bollywood (Indian) movie plot too
Rachel: Your family's rich???
Nick: We're comfortable.
Actually that's what super rich people would say.
I too watched the trailer

I now use that term everywhere hehehehe
as a singaporean, i wished they showed more races in the movie. since singapore is known for being a multi racial country.
they went by the book though...

This film was brilliant and meant a lot to me, representation matters and I felt happy seeing a film featuring Asian characters that weren’t all stereotypical. LOVED IT! 👍🏾
I read the book, and in all my "Africanness'' i could still relate. For instance, African women also face pressure at Rachael's age to settle down with a suitable man and have kids. Ironically I'm 29 and facing the exact same pressure... It's refreshing not to watch all white americans for a change. So here for this and hopefully it would atleast be as interesting as the book 🙋👌
There's a lot of women in the Western world who get that same kind of pressure too. It's not that long ago that Western women started fighting for their freedom.
This wedding scene.......ohh my gosh they are living in a dream 😍
Holy shit, I remember it being 2014, I was 14, in the Hong Kong airport in a random bookstore, and i saw this book. And I had to have it, so I bought it, read it and i KNEW it was going to be turned into a movie. Fuck, how random is that. I'm so keen for this movie~!!!
Don't say cuss word
Uh.. wtf is keen and why tf donyou use "~"..
@@shelby255 Shit 😍
She will always be Jessica Huang to me.
Ima tell Louis she's cheating on him and Eddie Emery Evan reactions will be hilarious.
Fresh off the boat is exactly what I thought when I watched this
Lacus Clyne *fresh of the boat*
I've always thought she's deserved an Emmy for FOTB.
You actually don't even remember that she is on a tv show because in this movie she plays first generation American born of Asian descent set in present day. She plays a young professor, single and etc
This just look like most of k-drama plots but with more budget
I never actually watched a K drama tbh but yeah this looks insanely awesome. How much is the budget of a kdrama?
Proud to be Sarawakians and Malaysians 🕊🇲🇾
so happy that we asians are finally getting the representation we deserve
Did we ask
These trailers made me think the movie was going to be stupid and boring but I actually really liked the movie when I watched it
"Yellow on the outside, but white on the inside" IM DYING AHAHAHHAHAHA
Racism is sickening. The line suggests the most base equating of a person's humanity with their color.
@@ruffneck405 that’s not what it means-

“Bock bock bitch” 😂😂😂😂
Buck buck bitch
Dam im dead lol
The right is "pok pok bitch"
*How many song did they put in this damn trailer?*
It's a like a new tune every 15 seconds!
What did you expect? They're rich Asians, could probably afford a sampling of every song on Billboards top 15 if they like~
Azuki and Friends HAHAHA
Nurpus is it not the same song though?
Same haha
2, Money by Flying Lizzards, and Glorious by Macklemore.
Wow.. they just played the entire movie. Thanks for the treat! 😂
I feel like I just watched the whole movie.

Nope! There's more to this movie than what the trailers show!

You did. Go see Fallout.

Rachel: Should have told me you're the "Prince William" of Asia
Nick: That's ridiculous. I am more of a Harry.
I watched this movie once and every time Awkwafina's character came up i felt more excited watching as compared to the rest.
Yellow on the outside, white on the inside
🍌
I wonder what they meant about that quote in the movie? I gotta see the movie so I can't criticize it out of context.
That’s a banana you are talking about
Por Priz wdym?
she says while sounding like a black person
Monster-in-Law 2018
Pretty much exactly.
You are so right, we were wondering why we thought of Jane Fonda!! This could be a better film though??
Exactly NOTHING AT ALL KNEW HERE. Been done with WHITE, INDIAN, BLACK Cast before. Its so tired....unless you are an 18 year old girl still naive to it all
Momster in law
As Asian myself it's kinda tough to judge...if I am a mother myself I would love my children so deeply n concern with who n what kind of person they r dating, sorry to say but I would want the best for them I think. Reality is harsh n young people easily blinded by what they think about love.
For example the real life story Duke of Winsor Prince Edward VII of Great Britain who gave up his throne n King title to be with Wallis Simpson who married twice bfore n what many historian believe to be the typical social climber/gold digger.
So it's just an overly protective action from a loving mother
Nice. Its about time that i get to watch a movie with alot of Asian people acting.
Cannot imagine Henry Golding from Sarawak, Malaysia be a leading man in a Hollywood movie! Make us proud!!
Shoobbie C sarawak representttt !
Excited to watch this, but y'all could've done way better with the trailer.
Callahan Covington what's wrong with it?
Maybe they saved the good parts for the movie, cause most trailers outdo it and then the movie doesn't deliver
I make trailers and I thought this was quite good.
"Shes like trying to play a game of chicken with me. Thinking that Im gonna swerve like a chicken!"
"But u cant swerve! U gonna roll up and be like..."
"Buk Buk Bitch!"
"Okay, maybe its like not as agressive..."
LOL
DIED FROM LAUGHTER WATCHING THIS PART
So stupid!
As a romantic comedy it's predictable and fun movie. Silly stereotypes etc. Good looking cast and production quality. It's also exposing how messed up some Asian cultures get with social status. Crab in a bucket mentality, and social climbers. They'll step on anyone or do the most irrational things for status. It's easier for Western audiences as it's in English. Some have never seen an Asian drama before.
5 stars; good story, good acting, good cinematography. Thanks.
For almost 6 months Prime flashed the movie to me and I didn't click seeing "rich" that too Asian with it. After clicking finally, much pestering by recommendation engine, I think I liked the movie a lot. Actors did such a cool job. It was so much fun. Great movie🎉🎉
I'm an African American male and I am sooooo ready to watch this movie! My e-reader recommended the book 2 or 3 years ago. I read the synopsis but I honestly didn't think much of it at the time. I'm so grateful that I didn't pay attention to it then because in March of 2017 it recommended Crazy Rich Asians again, that time I read it and really enjoyed it. I read the second book, China Rich Girlfriend immediately after reading the first and loved the characters even more. Here's why it paid off for me not reading the book years ago, after I finished reading the second book I only had maybe a week to wait for the 3rd book, Rich People Problems; to be released. Let me tell you that was perfect timing because I couldn't stand waiting that one week to read the final book! So it was perfect in the sense that I didn't have to wait months or a year to read that last book. I throughly enjoyed all three, loved the good characters and enjoyed hating the underhanded characters. After reading about them on pages then to see them all on screen will be amazing. These are all the reasons why I can't wait to see this movie. I am so looking forward to it!!
They are doing better thdn Nolly Wood....lol.
That's so funny, you're lucky you didn't suffer in waiting and got to binge-read your heart out lol.
SuZen Cho Yes, that's exactly what I did!
I'm a Filipino fan of Crazy rich asians!!
I'm from Singapore and I hope you guys come visit after watching the movie!
So many great actors in this!
The end scene was so powerful yet so simple
Still waiting for the sequel to arrive like...
It just a trailer but i can't stop watching thisss ♥♥
I've literally just wrote" rich Asian ppl movie" and this came out 😮😂
just saw the movie. it was great. love it. highly recommended.
I'm looking so much forward to see this!
Although I was a little put off by 0.38 where it seems like Peik Lins family knows who the Youngs are... A big point of the book is that these super-powerful families live completely out of the spotlight, take pride in *not* flaunting their money, and look down on the newly rich "mainlanders".
I'll be a little disappointed if this movie turns out to be as basic as the trailer gives an impression of. However I'm still really exited to see it!! :D
my.. my family actually calls me a banana, been calling me that ever since my english skills surpassed theirs
Crazy Rich Asians is actually coming to our theaters August 15th, not 30th. OMG only two more months!!
as a singaporean, none of them even sound singaporean
You need to understand this movie is not based on a typical Singaporean family, but the lifestyle of one of the richest families in Singapore.
Yep, my main gripe. I'd thought they would have at least made the effort. Hopefully our Singaporean actors had some opportunities to say something remotely Singlish.
Malaysian here agreeing with u 100%. Only Michelle Yeoh sounds realistically Asian
+Grande You need to go to Singapore to realize that your comment is completely irrelevant.
Actually I agree with +Grande's comment. Singaporean here. The kids of super-rich (not just rich) here generally speak with a British/American accent.
"It's like the Asian Bachelor..." xDDDDDDDD
Read the book and i love it. I cant wait to watch the movie too. But my only gripe is the title is a misnomer. Crazy rich ASIANS, asians but all the characters are supposed to be chinese. No major character are from other races in asia like the brown race, indian, japanese, koreans, just chinese. I think the title should be Crazy Rich Singaporean Chinese
I must watch the movie..im cant waittttt
I got the Asian but I don't got the crazy rich
are you saying there are no rich Asian families in Asia?
i think he means he’s asian but not crazy rich
Aya Cerillo I think so too lol
same
ya i got crazy and asian, the rich part is missing with my own personal nick young
Not feeling it but glad Asians getting more representation
China has a rich cultural heritage of storytelling. There is a Victorian, Edith Wharton, Henry James tone to this trailer. Except more crass dialogue. Maybe some better oriental stories are to come. There is a painter in Vancouver called Xue Yanqun who used to depict the women of Chinese aristocracy but he has moved onto less materialistic elitist subject matter in his latest work
The way she talks in the movie and on most parts just yell out Jessica Huang...😎
I have a crush on Constance Wu.
IM SO EXCITED IM LITERALLY JUMPING
Amy Van it was a great movie. You will like it.
it seems not the story about the conservative "old money" asian it's more about crazy "nouveau riche" asian. sorry about that... the trailer is sooo hollywood style in singapore background.
I CANNOT Waittttt - about bloody time Asians up front - at last!!!!!
so excited for this!! can't wait to see it
The mother from Fresh off the Boat is hilarious! hope this does well for her.
Shes a dramatic bitch actually. Worked on set a few times and she is extremely entitled. I lost a lot of respect for her.
I Kill Bunnies i
Mixed feelings... I like it that Asians are reflected on the screen but I am really not partial to flaunting. I'd still watch the movie to form a better, more fair opinion of it.
Caling Tagalog actually in the book, they don't exactly "flaunt". Perhaps some, but some of the families (no matter how crazy rich) are super scrimpy/thrifty and others keep the money to themselves, under wraps. They live a rich lifestyle but away from the spotlight
Very Filipino. Kunyare conservative-pasimple. Lumang tugtugin na yan.
lionel's lyre Modesty is an international value. Search for the word 'Janteloven' and be enlightened.
flaunting?
It looks kind of shallow and materialistic
I see haters and some groups claws comes out...Perfect. First sign of real long term official success. When people can dedicate time to insult something VERY SUCCESSFUL and GOOD you know its successful
OMG! I'm just about to finish the book!!!! This is gonna be so good....
Good movie to watch in this weekend
I WATCHED THIS MOVIE TODAY AND ITS THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!
This can actually get some awards in asia
You underestimate Asian movies
i don't . You underestimate the desire for social climb of asian women, this movie can get them more wet than 50 shades of gray even without sex scenes. It doesn't matter if the film script is trivial and plain, they will pay to see it anyway.
Metallo Devasto if u had watched any movie or drama series from asians u won't have such small mind about asian society and culture. U r right about how human beings crave for being in higher classes in society(if u don't as a male from whatsoever then u r dying species, u need to find ur place in zoos). Movies like crazy rich asians or fifty shades of gray have been popular because family and love is a moderator to hold a funny debate about social classes. These kinds movie r popular worldwide not only in asia n not only for women, if u can understand any asian language u ll find creative asians had a great number of better alternatives to watch than crazy rich asians. The only competitive advantage is that this one is an English speaking film so that asians can use it as an English learning material that has simple storyline for language learning starters to understand. Hope u see bigger world with open mind, embrace the globalization and be no more a culture blind.
Best wishes.

I love Astrid.. Best character in this movie... :P
Im excited for the story of other characters like Kitty Pong and Astrid Teo if theyre able to highlight that in the movie because the book has a lot of interesting characters which makes it sooooooo enganging to read..
It looks like a great movie! Can't wait to see it!
why did they cut off the scene of Harry and Gemma's dancing from the movie???
you need to see this, its small its grandiose, its funny its serious, its rich its poor, its fleeting its unforgettable, its the
big things its the little things, its dignified its proud, its sincere its devious, its class its gentrified so many parallels
interwoven but only love and family can bridge them all
i read this book years ago and I'm excited!
saw it last night, AWESOMEEEE !
I love this movie
Jesssicaaaa , i love her in Fresh of the boat
I love this so much😍 I watch this at the cinema already

I am waiting this movie now
😂😘😍💙👍
Gorgeous movie
oh yeah thanks for the trailer. I've seen a lot of the story
I’m going to watch this movie at the cinema today
Auctually we changed our mind and watched a house with a clock in its wall
Watch this just once and it is like you are watching the singaporean elites on what they do, their ideals, their lifestyle and the asian cinderella story, not to my liking🤔 It is too american and lack asian vibe there😑
I'm asian! And well, you can say that we're comfortable 😁
I would watch this.
nice
Maybe in the sequel they can show more than just Singapore, maybe Hong Kong, Shanghai, you know where there's real Crazy RICH Asians?
Have you ever read the books?
omg can't wait!!
Great movie
Yyyyeeesss I’m definitely here for it!
Casting a half white half Malaysian dude for the male lead is like casting a half white half Samoan dude to play Black Panther.
He looks Asian enough. Our first black President was a half-white dude. People will get over it.
chendaddy Dude looks more Latino than Chinese.
Yes. That is actually quite common in Singapore. A bit of this and a bit of that. Quite a common occurrence in a multi-ethnic country. An actual Singaporean here
Garry .Lo Putting aside the fact that the character is written as an ethnic Chinese, I’ve been to Singapore, and it’s definitely not full of half white people.
M0ebius yes the character in this film is suppose to be chinese. But Singapore’s ethnic mix is a lot more diverse than it seems. So in that sense the casting makes a lot of sense to me. To someone who is unfamiliar with my background, it may be common for them to recognise me as chinese Singaporean. And to a huge degree I would agree with them because I am predominantly chinese looking and I identity a lot with my chinese culture and heritage. But what most foreigners don’t know is I am also a part indian and a part english.
Yes halves and quarters are not written all over our faces. But we are definitely not as insulated as our East Asian cousins.
Again. Coming from a Singaporean living in Singapore.
