That poor woman to have to endure that abuse. The way she played with that happening off the court is inspirational. She demonstrated so much strength under adversity. The father should have gone to jail for a lot longer. It’s a crime he only served such a short period. God bless this great woman and thank you for telling your story. The admiration, strength, respect, care, appreciation and massive support I've always had for Jelena has been second to non, I always loved her as a player and remember getting her autograph, which she was so happy to give. I also knew in my heart and my gut feeling, despite not being part of her world and the tennis world, what this poor young girl/ women was going through and it broke my heart. Even when talking about it with some friends and hearing their unbelievable views and opinions just left me speechless.
Jelena your a true inspiration and know forever that your a great person.
I remember her SF run at Wimbledon in 2000. I hope she is able to heal and move past all of that trauma.

I Knew Jelena had trouble with her father but had no idea it was that bad,A true champion she is and a great comentator,full of compassion and love.
Her father is an absolute grub. How he could’ve treated his daughter the way he did is beyond me.
And how do you know its true ? Her father was in war, he was in prison during war in Croatia bu croation people, then all of a sudden Jelena started going out with Croation man, which he tried to stop. This is the true story behind it, trying to protect her ! He was trying to save her, move her back to serbia to play for serbia just to protect her not to get married to croation. At the end she did! And all of a sudden its abuse by her father . Bullshit for media !

@@JohnyStrombolli Won the first pro tournament she entered and was one of the biggest talents, lost a close final to Graf in her second ever tournament and a tight 3 setter Novotna in her 3rd tournament ,but sadly like Dokic had a crazy and physically abusive father. Went off tour for several years during her prime almost a decade. She alongside her family fled and had to get away from him and his threats to kill them. She was again broke Af and started all over again. Her getting to the Semis of the Aussie open in 2017, 18 years after the Wimby semis was perhaps the biggest story of the open to many.

You did nothing wrong
Why isn’t anyone talking about her coaches and tennis associates not looking out for her? Watching her play with clear wheals from beatings on top of her legs, watching her being abused on a too fast running belt by her monstrous father. One coach said “her story made me cry”!!! Aww really ? They allowed her to be driven off by him while he was wildly drunk and needing 3 security men to deal with him. The abuse was an open secret. And they did nothing. Why couldn’t they protect their cash cow, ban her father until 18 and find lawyers to emancipate her, and protect her assets and find a her safe place to stay? Kia, a major tennis sponsor punished him by putting this vile man on an advert!! Theres a certain evil in people that see abuse and being well aware of it, but do nothing.

There are ALOT of people who go through trauma and have NO support network. Nobody who believes in them. Her family sacrificed ALOT for her when they had nothing. She had a dream and they worked hard to help her accomplish it. I dont blame Jelena for hating the circumstances she was in but in a warped way it reaped results. Her punishment of them should be to not talk to them again and to move on and not dwell on the past.
She did move on, and has made tremendous strides considering what she went through. Who are you to tell her to not dwell on the past? You didn't live her past, none of us did. People deal with trauma in their own way.

While her father was in control, she was successful. It should be said that her career was ruined by her Croatian boyfriend. If she had listened to her father, she would now be a great champion. You should not listen to only one side of the story. Puberty in young girls is sometimes difficult to control. Serena Williams' father also strictly controlled the upbringing of his children, and if he hadn't done that, his daughter would not have been a great champion.
It was the same with Novak, in puberty, he wanted to give up. Srdjan, his father kept him under control. Now he is grateful to him.
She will admit to herself one day that her father was right. The same boyfriend who made her quarrel with her father and the whole family ended up leaving her last year like an old rag. Her career ended with the beginning of this relationship. A parents knows best, it's hard to admit it to ourselves sometimes.

He left her, moved back to Croatia and then phoned to informed her that he's not coming back.

What a disgrace she is to betray her father’s authority like this. Everything he did was for her own good, every blow struck, every harsh word. It came from the core of his heart, for her betterment, because he loved her and because he wanted success for her. Each time he raised his hand to her, it was worth 50,000 book deals and 50,000 more commentary jobs. She knew exactly where it came from with him, but the same can’t be said for anything she has received in exchange for her betrayal. Does she really think that these people who solicit this information from her have her best interests at heart, like he did? Why would they care about her? The truth is, they don’t. They are business people who do what they do to maximise their own self interests. In other words, make money for themselves. Go back to your dad Jelena. Kiss him and pamper him. Buy him gifts. Ask for his advice on things. If you do this, you will make him feel like he’s flying through the air, from happiness. It’s not too late.

It would have been great and more believable to have heard the father’s perspective as well - without the director’s narrative drowning in bias.
