I think that a lot of church leaders need to hear these points, sometimes leaders can get lost in their feelings of "failure" when their don't see their churches growing as they desire...
Good thoughts. Consider that a big problem with a lot of the small churches is that the pastor thinks he has to do everything. Dozens of people would get involved if they were asked to be involved. But, if the pastor is going to do everything then great. Let him. I'll just come and visit and leave.
I have learnt that , it is better to point to Christ and have a congregation of 5, than try and be like the world. Good music, events, light shows and attractive sermons but end up with a church that seeks the world and self instead of Christ. I am not against having good quality church activities but, when growth is based on feelings, shows and numbers rather than personal relationship with Christ where people strive for holiness, that growth is not worth it. Growth should be 1st based on our Souls, then when the word of God bears fruit in us, we will find ourselves helping win souls to the kingdom of God and not for our local church. Paying tithe to him and saving up money for five years to open up a store front church
