Great review! I’m planning on buying my copy soon and really getting into my first Sarah J Maas series. I tried to read throne of glass but this seems much more interesting to me :)
I just finished this book and quite enjoyed it. I don’t necessarily love the nuanced, irreverent yet honest characters, but the seemingly deep and purposefully convoluted and scattered world-building interests me. The succession and unfolding of events didn’t really surprise me either. In fact, I predicted most of the plot lines and twists correctly. I’m rating this book four stars because I like the concepts and themes despite that I find the execution lacking for my taste. It’s not the best literary writing but I enjoyed the entertainment value for most of its parts. I will continue reading this series because I want to know more about the Asteri, their political machinations and history, and as well as whether the world-building will go deeper and make more sense.
I finally read this book and I'm so glad I did. So happy to see videos like this one showing love instead of the usual "Sarah J. Maas is sloppy trash" talk
I haven't seen many things in the vein of the new adult genre outside of SJM, The Conqueror's Trilogy, The Dark Artifacts trilogy by Cassandra Clare and The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein, at least in my opinion. Do you have any more recommendations? I've wanted to get into the genre, but I don't know where to begin.

I won’t lie reading this I cried so much
I literally LOVE this book! It kept me on my toes and the romance was brought into the mystery to well! 10/10 would recommend😆

The Folk of the Air is a good one! I'd also recommend the City of Brass and A Darker Shade of Magic
Can we talk about SJM constant use of slavery?
I've got mixed feelings about this, literally. Somebody needs to tell me if the ending is sad.
