      The core. It was a gameshow where contestants would sit in a cage pummeled by hot water and numerous heaters or pummeled by freezing water and cold air. They would then need to answer quiz questions while trying to tough out the harsh conditions. It survived one episode before it was cancelled due to the insurance company refusing to cover them, and the likelihood of the contestants dying or having lasting injury.

      Kings Of The Wild: A show that attempted to mash Survivor and a cooking show together where two people, a "top chef" and a "top hunter" would be dropped in the wilderness with just the bare survival necessities and "eat like kings" for the duration of their stay thanks to combing their hunting, foraging and culinary skills.
      Sounds good, right?
      Only problem was that both of the people playing the relevant characters were comically inept in their roles, continuously lowering the bar of what qualifies as "eating like kings". The chef ruined many a meal, the hunter was a terrible attempt at a Crocodile Dundee wannabe and the production of the show was utterly laughable, often breaking the Reality TV fourth wall through bad editing, terrible narrative and continuity errors. If it was formatted to be a comedic attempt at the theme, it might have worked, but that wasn't the case. Only 5 episodes were made.

      What other show?
      Turn-On ABC February 5 1969. Less than 1 episode. Some affiliates stopped it after the first commercial break. I know because I was part of the production team.
      We celebrated opening and closing at the same party as the news came in from across the country. You got some good ones but you missed the biggest flop of all time. And it was a great George Schlatter (Laugh-In) show.

      There have been many movie flops that have lost money, just like there have been successful movies that have not made a lot of money due to spending too much. Movie or TV show, money has to be spent on actors, staff, equipment, and a pilot for TV without knowing if they will get a return their investment. The only difference is that for movies, the investment is much higher.

      Or you can do a one hour show like "The Pitch" which only made it through 10 episodes back in 2016. Critics claimed they loved the show, but in reality it sucked. The whole concept of the show was to prove that the only reason women don't play pro ball sports is discrimination. I think the main topic of the third episode was the difficulty of playing despite it being that time of the month. No one wanted to say the show sucked, but everybody wanted to find a reason not to see it.

      They do know, but like, imagine being an actor in a wheel chair. You already don't get many roles because you're...in a wheel chaire, ya know. And then the few roles that are made for people with wheel chairs, so many of them cast people who can walk and ALWAYS cite "flashbacks" or "dreams" for the reason why. I mean, the only two (main) characters in wheel chairs that i can think of right now are the guy in this video and Artie from Glee. Both played by people who can walk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @jwb52z9
      @jwb52z9 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Mad Men didn't have objectifying women as a main part of the show. Instead, it showed a fairly accurate depiction of workplace behavior in that era. I do have to praise The Playboy Club for one thing. It is, to my knowledge, the only on screen depiction of the Mattachine Society. If you don't know what that is, which is likely if you're very young or straight or both, google it if you're interested.

      It was cringy. They made the same mistake The Office made. They took the exact same dialog and just substituted American actors. As someone who love the original (of both shows) it was like watching Rainman doing "Who's on First." The Office quickly dropped the UK script and the writers learned to play to the strengths of the actors. Who knows, maybe Coupling could have been a great show if they had time to find their own rhythm.

      It's apparently a recurring problem in Hollywood. I get the studio's reasoning (having flashbacks), but this has apparently been going on for decades. We can now have Hispanic and black actors leading shows, gay characters who aren't 90's stereotypes, and actual kids (as voice actors), but for some reason, disabled actors don't seem to get a break.

      @@ScooterinAB because there are not many roles for them and generally they lack experience.

      They're probably not the same people. Also, this outrage culture didn't start until the last few years.

      @@ScooterinAB A lot of the times they want a name actor in that lead role. In the case of this show, they were remaking a cop show that most people they were hoping to watch probably never heard of so they needed a known actor. There just aren't very many known actors who also happen to be in a wheelchair. There's that one guy now (can't think of his name) who is on NCIS New Orleans and was on the last season of "Fear the Walking Dead" but he started out being able to walk until he was in an accident in real life and I don't think he was in a wheelchair at the time or maybe he wasn't around yet.
      The bottom line is they have to work their way up from the bottom just like everyone else. No one is going to just hand a major starring role in movies and TV to a no-name unknown actor just because they're in a wheelchair.

    I quickly learned thanks to NBC to not watch their shows because if I like them they'll cancel but if I hate it the show keeps going and going like the dang Energizer bunny. People hate Fox for them cancelling "Firefly", I hate NBC for cancelling "Constantine".

    But The View stays on air with less than a million, same for Daily show and Samantha Bee?

    • @LibraGamesUnlimited
      @LibraGamesUnlimited 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daytime TV has different standard and the Daily Show and Samantha Bee isn't on major networks. For a major network, in prime time you have to do way better than a million to stay on, way, way better.

    Out of curiosity, I decided to watch the premiere of "The Paul Reiser Show." I knew before the first commercial break that it was going to be cancelled.

    The following shows had more than one season, but in my opinion they were cancelled too soon and left cliffhangers that are now forever unresolved. 1) The Riches (on FX), 2) Brotherhood (on Showtime), 3) V (on ABC).
