The only Cabriolet in the #MercedesBenz line up - the CLE has a lot to live up to, as it has to succeed two big sellers in the C Class and E Class cabriolets! Much like the coupe version, the new #CLE Cabrio takes the best parts from the new C Class, with luxury and internal dimensions to match the old E Class. The idea is to give C Class customers more practicality, tech and luxury - while providing E Class drivers with the sportiness they’ve missed out on!
The best thing? Unlike the new C Class, the CLE benefits from a range topping 6 Cylinder engine with 381HP and some emotion, and a host of other diesel and petrol 4 pots - but no plug in hybrids. Rumour has it that the CLE 53 might wind up as a 6 Cyl for our AMG too, something I will show you in spy shot form as the CLE 63 in today’s video. :)
#Mercedes has done the idea of this “CLE” before, with the predecessor CLK car. To be fair, if you go far back enough, the W124 Cabrio pretty much also served as the only mid size cabriolet option. The CLK kind of fell on it’s face, not because the idea was bad, but because build quality was lacking and we didn’t have tech good enough to merge both sportiness and luxury without sacrificing one or the other.
The CLE makes no compromises. In terms of body, it is longer and wider than both C and E and as wide as the later. The Interior is totally C Class, but that’s because that is the sportier of the two, more driver focused with the centre screen pointing to the driver. The CLE Cabriolet benefits with more unique features like the front tilting screen as seen in the Mercedes AMG SL, unique rear bench ambient lighting much like Maybach cars, standard Air Scarf and Air Cap, and Napa leather areas standard. While your boot is smaller than the coupe, it’s as big as the outgoing E Cabrio - and comes standard with an electrically operated load area.
The roof is a multi later concept, with high sound deadening and thermal insulation - it can open in 20 seconds and up to speeds of 60kmh - more than the previous cars. Let’s check out the whole car in this first look today, and see what we make of it!

Hey Raz, do you actually feel that this is not simply a new C-Class? I owned a C43 Cab and everything on this car looks the same, just updated to new C-Class standards. I see no E-Class DNA at all in this car other than some styling queues. The most important part, the wheelbase, has not changed from the previous C-Class Cab, so it's interior is still C-class proportions. I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like just an excuse to charge E-Class money for a lower volume version of the C-Class. Would love your candid thoughts on this.

@@RemoveBeforeRace I don't disagree, as I owned a C43 Cab. I'm worried that it's a badge change to justify increasing the price by a far wider margin than previous. I sold my previous C43 back to Mercedes during COVID for over 70% of it's price after 5 years and 60,000 kms of ownership. I couldn't resist so as to pay off debt, but I also regret as I miss the car. I now want back in, but at the price that this might end up, I fear Mercedes has priced me out of the club now. 😔

The front differs very little to the CLA, visually bringing it down market from the lovely E class 238 Coupe and cab. That had more presence with the more prominent front grill and upfront front end.
Also not keen on the overly tall doors giving too much bulk in profile as per the last C coupe.
The larger greenhouse of the 215 CL, 124 coupe etc , along with no B pillars gave them that traditional and unique Mercedes coupe look that started with the W111.
Gonna have to disagree, I thought the cla headlights looked the best out of all mercedes. I think this is perfectly designed
@@philippmayenburg7282they look nice - We have a CLA shooting brake ourselves. But a premium model shouldn't look more similar to the cheaper one, or atleast be more distinguishable.
Shocked. I’m never shocked in car design. stunner. Elegant , hasn’t a bad angle. The off white crayon tho killled the lines. As you said. Suits black/dark paint
I dunno. I owned a C43 Cabriolet and honestly this totally looks simply like a C-class that they are going to price as an E-Class because of all the luxury add-ons. I don't see anything that's fundamental to the E-Class on this car Raz except, I'm speculating, it's price which will no longer be the deal it once was. Big sad.

If you have C43 Cab we must both be on A205 platform as i have a 2018 C300 cab and have similar feelings. The A205 was such an excellent design I don’t think owners like us are even a target for the CLE.
I doubt any E-class coupe owner is missing the "sportiness" of this CLE. Imo, The E-coupe is better proportioned and overall better looking than this thing
Hey Raz, the new SL does have a hard button for the top. Just press the physical top button twice and hold the second time and the top sequence will execute. No need to fiddle with the screen slider. By the way, what ever happened to the SL you took delivery of? I never saw a full review on that.

Great looking replacement for the previous models. My main gripe with Mercedes UK is they only tend to bring in the AMG line specs with limited interior trim option and mainly black black black. Let’s hope we can actually spec a tan interior or a pale/summer leather for a change
Totally agree.
Mercedes UK completely took away the option to have a standing star on the bonnet on all models apart from the S. Audi UK are awful as well for only allowing you a black interior.

I get that the AMG line versions probably sell the most, but I think it's wrong for a manufacturer like Mercedes to only offer that trim on its more expensive models in the UK.
People who buy expensive cars tend to like lots of options to choose from in my opinion.

The old E class is nicer, longer , feels more luxurious, this one is purely C class, it has nothing to do with the E, it is an upgrade for the C coupe and downgrade for the E coupe
The CLE is actually longer than the old E-Class, but yes when it comes to the interior I prefer the E-Class
I understand why Mercedes has tried to bring the old C & E cabriolet models together, but like you say, I think this is a step down for E class buyers.
They should just come clean and admit that they have canned the E class coupe and cabriolet models.

About the AMG 53, yes, would make sense they offer the M256 with 429 HP but a CLE63 with a 4 cyl hybrid….. can’t see people paying more for less cylinder, besides, where would they put they battery in this thing. In my view, not happening. Also, sales will depend on Price. My wife has the 2019 C43 cabrio and I don’t see us stepping up to $50k + + or more than what we paid her car to upgrade to this half C-E model.

It’s the convertible I’ve been waiting, the only thing that could top it would be an all electric one but this car can’t be released quick enough. Not looking forward to the wait list. If you are in the UK pricing for CLE cabriolet is expected to be from £56,000. USA price expected to start at $63 or $65,000. Hopefully Mercedes will allow you to order the one you want soon. It is a stunning car.

Great video and review ..keep it up 😊 I agree from a C Class it’s an upgrade ..from and E Class it’s a down grade. I waited a long time for the new SL and new E Cab and either new front end styling is appealing to me and this CLE looks common and depressing.

Not sold on the rear end. The sloping end and full right to left tail lamp bar does not do it for me. Could be different irl.

Chrome border around ruins whole look of the car but overall Merc is back with good looking cars.
As a 2019 E53 Coupe owner I'm only keen on finding out what the CLE53 will be like, cause I don't wanna downgrade to 4 cylinders.
I'm betting it's going to be the same powertrain of the S500, meaning 449ps + 22eq. Personally enough for me and it surely performs better but the character of the C238 is unmatched with this one. You had S class luxury for a budget such as leather on the dash, microfiber headliner, massaging seats, a big burmester 3d option etc. while still remaining that huge price gap to the s class. However this is the only traditional 2 door coupe from mercedes benz now (not looking on the amg gt) maybe mercedes will offer a bigger version, a CL(e) reborn?
This will not be able to replace the C238. The C238 drives in a more grown up way, has a much nicer interior and the no B pillar experience. It‘s just more sophisticated. The CLE is a bigger C coupe
I think the much more interesting coupe is the new GT if it fits in the pricerange (for me sadly not the case)

Mercedes has killed of the S-class & E-class Coupe/Cabriolet. ….The new CLE coupe/cabriolet is effectively the return of the CLK ….a C-class coupe/cab with a little E-class exterior styling for a more premium pricing. Beautiful car but don’t be fooled it’s a C-class coupe/cabriolet.

Bruh this is literally a C-class coupe, same interior and same design language on the exterior, in fact looks more like a mix between C-class and CLA than E-class. The only single reason why they call it a CLE and claim some bs connection to the E-class is to milk more $ from the customers and place it a class above where it actually should be.

This is step down from my 2022 e53 AMG cabriolet. So S class gone, E gone and now this. The only other option is $200k SL63?? Mercedes used to have SLK, E,C, S and GT cabs. Horrible

As a c238(w213) e-coupe owner, I am seriously disappointed. The interior is frankly unacceptable to be sold as an E-class tier product, for e-class money. It’s not even up to C class standards with all the hard-touch and piano black. It looks stunning from the exterior, but it is not going to get my business. It’s a long w206 c-coupe with the 6cyl (which should be in the c class) and some features from the e-class. It’s one of the biggest blunders in recent MB history.
So they're putting a 6 cylinder in this, but a 4 banger in the C63 and the GLC63... 🤦♂

Im a owner of a CLA coupé and a huge fan of the old e-class coupé and let me tell you, i dont like this car... it looks literally like a more expansive version of my CLA ( the coupé version ofc) and it just feels redundant in my eyes.. at the same time, we lost the legedary e-class coupé which is a big loss in my eyes..
Since mercedes is replacing the CLA soon with some ugly electric BS called EQC, longterm they force me to buy a CLE to get a nice looking coupé.. i dont know how to explain, but i feel a bit fooled...
personally, im not willing to pay the price for a CLE, the CLA was a perfect sweet spot in my eyes.. even though the CLE is much more luxurious than a CLA; is think the CLA is the better and more unique car... CLE is just copy and paste of already existing models while forcing people to pay higher prices...
I had 2 Audi S5 Cabriolet and much preferred the shape as well as the interior design. The windshield is too slanted. Like the paint though.

@@s._81 I share the same opinion cause 2019 was the last year for the S65 Coupe.
Imagine a big old V12 in a modern, luxury Mercedes coupe such as the S Class with no petrol particle filter, the dream. Plus it was rear wheel drive and it had the previous, gorgeous steering wheel.
I don't know who's bright idea it was to discontinue the S class Coupe and Cabrio but it wasn't all that bright. I also used to own a 2013 E550 coupe and not having a V8 on these cars will be missed by many. You need an AMG version to get a decent engine sound and performance out of these cars nowadays.

Too big, too long, too bulky. The old C was proportionately more sporty (which many convertible fans require) and the old C compared more favorably to the current BMW 4 series and the Audi a5. This new CLE and the old E class (in my opinion) appeal more to cruising seniors citizens. BTW, I am one but wouldn’t own either C or E.
Disappointing because I was very interested in the CLE cabriolet.
