First of all, Flamuu would start with saying that CVs roll/the things they excel at, is to hunt DDs and you'r bad for not doing it first. With that out of the way. Modules: The last I played, I went for AA module and bombers modification all-round. I didn't find rocket planes that good back then and I wanted to have every bit better AA for late game cv vs cv. I didn't reach tier 10, so I can't say on the last module. Skills: DE for non-japanese. In my mind SS doesn't look to be worth 4 points and I would prefer to have CE. With CE you have smaller detectability circle of your planes and therefore a smaller circle where the DD can be, when the planes are spotted by one. Also makes it easier to move closer. For japanese I was considering skiping TA, I didn't think that the loss in range was worth +5knts and even longer arming distance. Attacking: From what I remember, when doing an attack with rockets planes(after clicking LMB) DON'T USE A or D keys, the reticale doesn't shrink as much if you use A or D to adjust your aim. When attacking a moving target factor in about 0.5s of rocket travel time worth of lead. If attacking from broadside of a ship try to have the reticale at or above the deck of the ship. With torpedo bombers drop at least a ship length ahead of a moving target. Dropping a bit early requires a bit more lead but increases the odds of torpedoes arming even if the target tries to turn in. With Japanese Dive bomber I would recommend to spend some time in the training room figuring out how to drop your targets. Dropping right away (with some lead) or before starting to leveling out had the best chance of citadels for me. Slingshot: Check distances of starting an attack on stationary and later moving targets in the training room. For shoukaku it was ~7km for stationary 8+km for a moving target head on, 6? for running away? Late game CV vs CV: Use TBs and rocket planes, 1 strike at time if your far away from the target. TB's heal can be used to somewhat mitigate a single figther cover, not sure about fighter cover in combination with AA. Dive bombers only from head on and they will likely get shredded before they can get to drop.
I have to say the invulnerability just has to go. I enjoy slingshotting as much as anyone else, but it negates so much of the AA effectiveness when its already pretty low most of the time. With how strong the O key sort of is sometimes, and then having to watch them damn planes to see when they start taking damage again and THEN use it. Its too much time.
Never used a cv since launch, if only WG had more CCs that not only provided these valuable guides but along with game changes continued to re release them as and when they were needed. Well done mate hopefully WG will appreciate and more importantly reward you in some way for taking the time to do these. I'm aCC (non gaming) and know how much time goes into editing filming etc. Cheers
The core basics of a tier 4 and tier 10 carriers are the same... Slingshot, scouting w/ rocket planes, aiming, it's all the same. Doesn't take a genius to adapt and go, "oh I have a few less planes and bombs and be more resourceful"
2 things. first, attack flight gets 30% damage reduction during attack so you can mitigate some heavy aa damage. second, watch top tier replays channel for unicum CV action and tips and tactics
I played several aircraft carrier games today to finish off farming snowflakes. I never played CV's before so I did it in co-op. I should have watched this video first. Even in co-op my high score was only around 35k damage. I probably could have doubled my scores if I watched this first. Generally speaking, I don't like the effect of CV's in the game, but I have to admit flying around and lining up torpedo attacks was fun. Dive bombing was tougher than I thought it would be. I'll have to go back and play around with the tier 4 British CV I picked up from playing some missions (along time ago) to start with playing randoms with CV's. The ships I played today I got in Santa crates.
Hey thanks so much for the video. I got into the game last week and just played my 1st Langley game and sucked out lol. I see ppls comment on nostalgia on the old style CV as a newcomer I find the current style pretty decent too. And thanks I learned a lot from this video.
I've always played DDs the most and then BBs, so I'm still learning how to play CVs and I found this video very useful. Thank you for your hard work. Have a great day and keep it up. :) _SteelShark
burhan nudin one CV results in the whole change in RTS? lmfao what kind of dumb logic is that? Graf Zeppelin was fucking overpowered period and needed a nerf hammer. Everyone wanted GZ nerfed but wg did fuckall in balancing it and instead gave us the cv rework. No other cvs in rts had its ap dive bombing power that was literally click and boom. (autobomb circle reticule) that could strike at any angle and one-shot a bb with 6+ citadels, which was completely op and braindead. Every other RTS CV could only 1 shot a bb with a well executed cross drop of torpedoes (which actually took some skill to do).
You need to let it go, pal. It’s done. They’ll never go back. Yes, it’s a shame, and I really dislike the current CV gameplay (esp. the rockets), but the RTS game mode was broken - fun, but broken, and they will never go back. So perhaps time to change your tune?
18:25 - So iChase, maybe you were just doing it to show us how 1 squadron out of 2 can be sling shotted up into the sky by hitting F before regaining control of that last squadron, but I'm sitting here wondering why even bring that second group of 4 planes in this case into harm's way only to sling shot them back to your CV after a single drop is made? Couldn't you have just made 2 drops into the empty ocean before actually executing your attack run on the Kremlin and therefore only be flying in to attack him with a single squadron, especially if you know beforehand like in your example here that you only plan on attacking a guy one time before jetting back home. So why bother flying in there with the 7 planes only to attack once w/ 3 of them and sling shot the other 4 back home? Just bringing a few extras along to ensure you'd have a full squadron still of 3 to attack him with once you reached him maybe, I dk? You could have just dropped again into the empty ocean to send 3 out of those 7 home, and you still would have had 4 planes to bring with you for the actual attack run in order to be able to afford losing a plane to AA DPS and still have a full 3 to complete the attack with assuming RNG didn't screw you.
@@feanorn8409 he means, I Think, bitching is useless because CV are now part of the plane, so keep walking and start learning what their strength and weakness are so that you can exploit them against CV players. About DD I'm certainly not pitting that class: before CV rework, after they added the stupid "only overpen system" to a class already missing a citadel, with things like Haragumo and Mogador gunning down Yamato and GK on daily base and shimas and Panasian saturating the map with ballistic torps they were OP as hell! And forcing anyone else to stay on the blue line.
@R3dEye Gaming, accusing me of not playing CV is kind of a pitiful point to make considering I do play them, play them very well and yes, CVs are a problem in the game.
At about 4:09 in the video, you recommend Torpedo Acceleration as a captain skill to choose. You say that you want to be able to drop the torpedoes a little further back so that your planes do not get as shot up. That skill does give your torpedoes a 5 knot boost in speed but also reduces torpedo range by 20%, which means you can't shoot from as far away?? Doesn't make sense, seems to be contradictory. You also urge getting improved engines, which is only a measly 2.5% A/C speed increase, but if you select adrenaline rush instead (same 2 point captain skill cost), you get .2% in speed increase for every 1% of HP lost, which means that if you only lose 20% of your aircraft HP, you now have a 4% speed increase, 40% hp loss = 8 % speed increase, 60 % HP loss =12% speed increase and 80% = 16% speed increase. Also, you get a identical reload reduction time % for all types of armament.with that adrenaline rush. This sounds like a much better choice, doesn't it??? Please advise soonest!!!
You wont usually be dropping from thier maximum range because torpedos are slow So if you speed them up you can drop from farther back because they will reach the enemy just as fast
Sadly the commentary sound could be a bit higher, when comes to streams the level of it is OK, why not here? I need to pump up the volume on my amplifier whenever I watch your YT videos @iChase And about the CV play: I don't play much with them, finding them very boring, maybe after this tutorial I will try to play more a bit.
enemy DDs are still wide open to you so slay those, same goes for lone stragglers and... lo and behold... flying out just beyond AA reach and keep those ships spotted so the "hanging out at back" BBs can snipe at them. while the later is enabling a bad playstyle..yeah well do you care to lose ?
SInce a lot of us who may look at videos to learn more, it might be good to use low tier ships on these educational videos. It gives us noobs a better idea of how to start out. When using such advanced ships, I dont think all of it translates to the tier 4 CVs. I ve noted this in other videos. Although it may be fun to watch tier 10s on youtube, for us novice players or typically bad players wanting to get better, try making videos with the mid range or even low tier ships. Just a suggestion. not sure how others feel Another idea... how about a tutorial video about how to play when you are up against ships 2 tiers higher than your ship. It gets very frustrating and just feel like dropping out of the game at times.
Thank u Soo much good to see u that u are explaining about the carrier Many ccs only want to shoot down planes and they never play on the behalf of the CV CVS are not op at all with the current aa systems But they are not set to this game Instead of people saying that it is not set to the gameplay People say that it is op Anyways thanks for the explanation 👍 Love ur vids
That's because it IS an unintentional side effect of the multiple attacks from one flight mechanic. We said it was dumb and would have this effect during PTS. WG ignored us.
Hi iChase. How much of this is actual in current version? I have just tested slingshoting, and it behaves basically nothing like what you show in the video, invulnerability window, if it even exists, is very short, and recovery from attack run is very long. Testing shokaku dive bombers against North Carolina, I basically have to regain control before I even enter AA bubble of NC.
Dear IChase, could you make a fundamentals video for unupgraded non premium CVS with unupgraded planes and 10 point captains at tiers 6 and 8 and for all nations?
The same things apply. Just be more reserved with your planes. You need to play smart, because the planes will be weak, especially if you get uptiered. In that case, just stick to hunting dds and (This applies to all CVs) stay away from groups of ships!
I found that the t4 brit carrier sucks, it just doesnt do damage. The t6 it gets MUCH MUCH better. So dont get discouraged. Also the japanese are only the hardest to play imo because their planes get murdered by AA and you have to pick and choose targets wisely, while british planes are tanks but just dont do that much damage.
Good Video, spread the CV love! There are a bunch of details wrong tho. For example, when you said you'd like to use torpedo acceleration to avoid all the short range AA, the planes automatically continue to fly in a straight line. They collect everything they can regardless of 20 meters more or less. The close AA bubbles are not big enough to avoid them with that specific intend. I personally use it to serve my playstyle on specific carriers. In my view slingshotting is not that viable anymore. It was pretty OP in it's time but now... other tactics might work better for you.
Not downplaying your Guide Chase. In fact I was needing a video like this because I want to get better at playing CV's. That being said, it's sad and funny at the same time where your other guides are showing useful tactics like angling, when to switch shells, and etc. while for CV's....."Okay guys here's how to do a mechanic that will allow your plans to take no damage while flying to the target by exploiting a game mechanic." I know that "auto bounce" may be considered as almost the same thing, but you can still take damage if the shells his your superstructure or RNG gives you the middle finger and you still take damage.
I've never noticed the arming indicator line on torpedo bombers lol. I've always guessed where they would arm and often put torps under a ship becasue I was too close to arm but never knew that there is an indicator until now! Thanks iChase :)
When It comes to aiming what advice do you have? Such as for rocket attacks where to strike? For torpedo attacks where should I aim for? For bombing runs how do I get that citadel and blow up the ship?
Interesting about the flak avoidance, turns out I have been using the speed booster at the wrong time so something learned there, so can you show gameplay where the red fleet are bunched up,to make an really hard flak bubble to penetrate.
The issue now is the adding of machine gun fire to the Rocket Planes attack run. This makes it so CV’s will have a hard time going after DD’s, cause of this I have ignored going after DD’s, and just stuck to going after stragglers. Ohh, and didn’t they eliminate slingshotting? Cause the planes thats are not in the attack run still receive continuous AA damage?
By the way on your targeting cone for the torps I noticed your targeting cone stays yellow on the OPPS too late activate zone and green on your still good to activate area. Did they change that as mine is always either fully yellow or fully green depending on what stage I am in on the torp run. I like how yours is yellow to clearly indicate the too late zone. is that just a setting or did they change that feature??
How do you change the size of your squadron? You said you ditched a few of your planes because you knew they'd just be shot down... I don't see that option anywhere tho?
This is a glitch, but I think it should be kept as mechanic. At high tiers, when ships are in close proximity, sometimes, the only way a CV can get some meager damage in is by slingshot dropping. Otherwise, a regular approach will eat up almost all the planes.
Everyone bitching about CVs and now I feel like they are nerfed... before I used to do massive damage around the 100k, now barely scraping for 50k because everyone actually tries to dodge the aircraft even before they drop their payload
When i use my torp planes and i dive down and the green drop zone comes up when i go to release my torps only "aone" torpedo drops npt all 3, what am i doing wrong???
May i know your PC specification please? I want to start wows on PC and im planning on doing the CV role since i played the android ver for quite a long time as a CV player
Until wg fixes the ui bugs, uncontrolled movement over island or sandbanks and the other annoying things I'm not playing cv's. Sold them all but got a kaga sadly. Wg nerfed AA into the ground but kept a slingshot exploit to keep things fun. Because spreadsheet says it's fun.
So after the rework, cvs don't really care about AA at all, since the damage they take is laughable and they can't be deplaned. Let's teach them how to exploit mechanics to be even more of a pain xD
@owatahfuhlyem This is very late, but you press m, it will bring up the map, and you can click on said map to automatically move your carrier until you get there. You can still fly your planes, too.
I am looking for a guide on how to (by button press) use attack planes. are they really only just rockets and no dogfighting at all?! please I am at a loss
As part of the CV re-work, they redid how the various types of planes work. Fighters that attack other aircraft, such as what you're talking about, were removed from player control and replaced with the attack aircraft with the rockets. So yes, the Attack aircraft are just rockets, although they can also scout, etc as any other aircraft can but are the fastest of your available aircraft. Instead of being able to control fighters, the Tier 6, 8, and 10 carriers are able to "summon" a squad of fighters to cover a circle of the map for a set period of time. I believe it is roughly 50-60 seconds. During that time, if they don't engage anything, they will sit there circling, so they can spot ships nearby, such as destroyers. However, once they engage an enemy squadron (or they get shot down), they will leave. The area they will circle is centered on where your squadron was when you pushed the button, and they will take a few seconds to get there. The area your fighters will patrol will be a green circle on the map once you summon them. Tier 4 carriers cannot summon fighters, although they still have a few on hand to launch automatically when your carrier gets attacked. It is a consumable, and you will only have 3-5 charges in general.
I don't know why they always start with so many planes, if only 3 planes can attack on the same time. Why they don't delete all the other planes and you always start with only 3 planes. That would be much more immersive than this big swarm and only 3 planes can attack on the same time. I think about the mechanics of Battlestations Pacific. That would be much cooler. Coolest thing would be a cockpit view, imagine sitting in the plane and fly down directly to a big battleship.
Now I'm wondering for how much longer we'll be able to slingshot, also soon Flak will just be cosmetic and they'll buff the dot of AA. Actually on that last one would probably be good, it would bring the AA game back to RTS so you can more easily gage how well a build will do against planes and for the CV the only skill will be lining up shot. Something I noticed is that unless the team dominoes for multiple attacks most CVs only do single attacks. One Thing I wish you would have covered is use of the fighter consumbale. Yes its mostly pointless, since any alert CV will be able to avoid them and they are mostly used for spotting. Maybe they should be dispatched via the mini map to a gridsquare or be assigned like the old fighters to protect a target? Maybe make it so that each tech tree gets a different set, like a large squadron for the USN, multiple squadrons for the IJN and longer lasting ones for the Brits? They would have to disable spotting for them though or maybe decrease the range at which fighters can spot.
Thanks! This was immensely useful to understand the game mechanics for someone which practically never uses CV

Modules:
The last I played, I went for AA module and bombers modification all-round. I didn't find rocket planes that good back then and I wanted to have every bit better AA for late game cv vs cv.
I didn't reach tier 10, so I can't say on the last module.
Skills:
DE for non-japanese.
Attacking:
From what I remember, when doing an attack with rockets planes(after clicking LMB) DON'T USE A or D keys, the reticale doesn't shrink as much if you use A or D to adjust your aim.
Slingshot:
Check distances of starting an attack on stationary and later moving targets in the training room. For shoukaku it was ~7km for stationary 8+km for a moving target head on, 6? for running away?
Late game CV vs CV:
Use TBs and rocket planes, 1 strike at time if your far away from the target. TB's heal can be used to somewhat mitigate a single figther cover, not sure about fighter cover in combination with AA.
Dive bombers only from head on and they will likely get shredded before they can get to drop.
Damn dude, thanks, really helpful info there
@@innerarts4091 Glad to help!
Its too much time.
you must only play T4&6 to say that
@@Zenkai76 Nope. I actually most play T8-10 with the occasional T5-6.
No wonder my torpedo bloom was so big xD
Thank you Chase!
Cheers
Useful, but a 'fundamentals' video at tier 4 with a 3 point captain might be more applicable for those starting out on the CV line.
TopTier is amazing
This is a big help! I was lost on my first two missions.
Whew.. Turns out i need to go back to this place again. Dang i miss the old cv
How to git gud at CVs; go to the forums and ask for WG to give back RTS :3
Do you like rts graff zeppelin?
The reason is graff zeppelin rts
burhan nudin one CV results in the whole change in RTS? lmfao what kind of dumb logic is that?
@@la_potat6065 graf Zeppelin was balanced, it had no meaningful fighter power and was easy to shut down with either Hiryu or Ranger
This should be 2 videos. One for commander skills and one for cv play
Wonderful guide! Thanks for the video
No bitching and complaining about aircraft carriers. Automattic thumbs up. Nothing but good information.
Do you play DDs ?
@@feanorn8409 he means, I Think, bitching is useless because CV are now part of the plane, so keep walking and start learning what their strength and weakness are so that you can exploit them against CV players.
About DD I'm certainly not pitting that class: before CV rework, after they added the stupid "only overpen system" to a class already missing a citadel, with things like Haragumo and Mogador gunning down Yamato and GK on daily base and shimas and Panasian saturating the map with ballistic torps they were OP as hell! And forcing anyone else to stay on the blue line.
@R3dEye Gaming, accusing me of not playing CV is kind of a pitiful point to make considering I do play them, play them very well and yes, CVs are a problem in the game.
you say to ditch your extra squadron but how? also how do you attack planes while using your cv?
all the infos I was hoping to find, ty
This series is a life saver
Thank you i have been asking for this one for a few episodes. Thanks again
You wont usually be dropping from thier maximum range because torpedos are slow
So if you speed them up you can drop from farther back because they will reach the enemy just as fast
Sadly the commentary sound could be a bit higher, when comes to streams the level of it is OK, why not here? I need to pump up the volume on my amplifier whenever I watch your YT videos @iChase
And about the CV play: I don't play much with them, finding them very boring, maybe after this tutorial I will try to play more a bit.
How to get good in a tier 6 cv in a tier 8 game?
slingshotting and plane preserving while dodging as much flak as possible, as he says
Don't forget to choose your target wisely as well. Overlapping AA is OP.
Define 'good'...
You are not going to carry. Content yourself with making sure your friendly ships win.
enemy DDs are still wide open to you so slay those, same goes for lone stragglers and... lo and behold... flying out just beyond AA reach and keep those ships spotted so the "hanging out at back" BBs can snipe at them. while the later is enabling a bad playstyle..yeah well do you care to lose ?
@@shawnfreeman3932 what is slingshoting? Nvm he mentions it later...
Just a suggestion. not sure how others feel
Another idea... how about a tutorial video about how to play when you are up against ships 2 tiers higher than your ship. It gets very frustrating and just feel like dropping out of the game at times.
Thank u Soo much
good to see u that u are explaining about the carrier
Many ccs only want to shoot down planes and they never play on the behalf of the CV
CVS are not op at all with the current aa systems
But they are not set to this game
Instead of people saying that it is not set to the gameplay
People say that it is op
Anyways thanks for the explanation 👍
Love ur vids
The slingshot mechanic is absolute bs. It feels like a bug that WG just decided to call a feature because they were too lazy to fix it...
That's because it IS an unintentional side effect of the multiple attacks from one flight mechanic.
We said it was dumb and would have this effect during PTS. WG ignored us.
Thanks, very good tutorial!! Greetings from Germany 🙋♂
Dear IChase,
could you make a fundamentals video for unupgraded non premium CVS with unupgraded planes and 10 point captains at tiers 6 and 8 and for all nations?
The same things apply. Just be more reserved with your planes. You need to play smart, because the planes will be weak, especially if you get uptiered. In that case, just stick to hunting dds and (This applies to all CVs) stay away from groups of ships!
Nice explanation. I am really struggling with CVs and apparently I'm playing the easiest ones! 😳😳
@@rhettoricbtw That could explain why I struggle to get any good damage games 😉 I can blame the ship now 🤣🤣
Good Video, spread the CV love!
Slingshoting is still good. Just look at the british tier 8 premium cv. It is almost impossible to lose planes with her if you slingshot.
really missed the builds for the other CV's though
Not downplaying your Guide Chase. In fact I was needing a video like this because I want to get better at playing CV's. That being said, it's sad and funny at the same time where your other guides are showing useful tactics like angling, when to switch shells, and etc. while for CV's....."Okay guys here's how to do a mechanic that will allow your plans to take no damage while flying to the target by exploiting a game mechanic." I know that "auto bounce" may be considered as almost the same thing, but you can still take damage if the shells his your superstructure or RNG gives you the middle finger and you still take damage.
Thanks a lot for doing this!
Mabey this will help me survive longer then 3 minutes
Interesting about the flak avoidance, turns out I have been using the speed booster at the wrong time so something learned there, so can you show gameplay where the red fleet are bunched up,to make an really hard flak bubble to penetrate.
1 thumb up is not enough!! great vid
Funny, all this time I thought weaving left and right during the flack didn't help, at least it didn't seem like it did.
Thanks for the update! ~ BaJukeAJoe
Some bombers return to cv for a good reason; after they laughed bombs, they have no more bomb! That's simple;-)
How do you change the size of your squadron? You said you ditched a few of your planes because you knew they'd just be shot down... I don't see that option anywhere tho?
Good video thx.
Bravo. thank you.
I know this is a old clip, but which CV Line would you recomend for a New player(and for the most fun)
What about, in the tactical map, when you click on a ship, an A appears as if it's targetted. Is there any automatic actions you can set?
Just what we need is more people utilizing a glitch in carriers, thanks ichase!
I didnt even know about slingshotting. I can't wait to use it tomorrow! :D
This is a glitch, but I think it should be kept as mechanic. At high tiers, when ships are in close proximity, sometimes, the only way a CV can get some meager damage in is by slingshot dropping. Otherwise, a regular approach will eat up almost all the planes.
Get close up to get to close you get spoted and shot at. Graf Zeppelin starts laughing diabolically
Nice. How about visual cues on leading torp planes on not BB's sitting still.
Why do some CV's drop stuff early? I was thinking making the squadron smaller for scouting or something
Pretty useful
Hey, iChase, will Enterprise ever be sold again? I would really like to buy it.
What would be your recommended build for rn cvs, in particular the TX audacious?
no sling shot anymore ;/
How do you ditch a squadron? Total CV noob here, dont really get that bit, are not extra planes better in an attack?
Everyone bitching about CVs and now I feel like they are nerfed... before I used to do massive damage around the 100k, now barely scraping for 50k because everyone actually tries to dodge the aircraft even before they drop their payload
Thanx :D
as a new player and getting to T8, flak is destroying me in these T10 matches.
Ryzen 3 build without GPU is sufficient for medium settings.
Do you ever even use the second round? Maybe only against very weak AA ships?
Why do the torpedo bombers all look like the Stuka dive bomber?
Until wg fixes the ui bugs, uncontrolled movement over island or sandbanks and the other annoying things I'm not playing cv's.
Sold them all but got a kaga sadly.
Wg nerfed AA into the ground but kept a slingshot exploit to keep things fun.
Because spreadsheet says it's fun.
I'm going to ask probably the dumbest of questions do you have to buy with dabloons or is there another way?
So after the rework, cvs don't really care about AA at all, since the damage they take is laughable and they can't be deplaned. Let's teach them how to exploit mechanics to be even more of a pain xD
Some players may not know how to maneuver their CVs using the minimap....
@owatahfuhlyem This is very late, but you press m, it will bring up the map, and you can click on said map to automatically move your carrier until you get there. You can still fly your planes, too.
should be done with low teir carriers against moving targets .. that would better give new players an idea of what they are up against
Agreed. No one sits in one spot irl.
“I’m going to bomb the Kremlin.”
That doesn’t sound right...
@@aethyr6776 thank you for the response..that's a shame =(
Can other classes have invulnerability frames when shooting or torpedoing too?
yes they are
Most of the player base cant even play idiot proof bbs correctly...dont encourage them with cvs....nice guide btw.
You need to do an updated version
I don't know why they always start with so many planes, if only 3 planes can attack on the same time. Why they don't delete all the other planes and you always start with only 3 planes. That would be much more immersive than this big swarm and only 3 planes can attack on the same time. I think about the mechanics of Battlestations Pacific. That would be much cooler. Coolest thing would be a cockpit view, imagine sitting in the plane and fly down directly to a big battleship.
Ah. Now I see why I dont do damage in my games lmao
Please please please do a Shokaku guide. I’ve been struggling with it so much though I can consistently get 100k on Ryujo 🥲
Anyone have an updated video on this . Sense there is German CVS now ?
Does that exploit mechanic still work in 2022
In today's meta does slingshot still work?
Yesssss, thanks!
