Outstanding video, super educational and crystal clear explanations. I feel I'll be comfortable with this piece of equipment when I'll run into it after watching this.

Hi Sean - excellent video as always. You mention another separate video that goes into more detail about Camera Configs etc. Is this up yet? any chance you can add the link to the info on this one?

Question, so under radio modules, you mention that it’s backwards compatible.
So I should be able to use my WCU-4 to communicate with the RIA-1 with a module and in turn that would replace the need for either an AMC, UMC or RF motor when using non ARRI cameras? Would this also eliminate the need for an LCube when using a cinetape in the same scenario?

Hi Esteban - you're correct. With an RF-EMIP radio module in the RIA-1 you will be able to connect to your WCU-4, the RIA-1 will function as a motor controller and can send camera control commands. The serial port will support distance measuring devices, and if you upgrade to a Hi-5 at some point you will be able to use the Focusbug license for all those extra features.
You can also use a RIA-1 in client mode (instead of host mode on camera) to bring support for the new long-range RF-2400 and RF-900 radio modules to the WCU-4, by connecting an LCS to LBUS cable from the WCU-4 to RIA-1.

    Hi!
I don't really understand the point of the last configuration: why not have the OCU-1/Ria-1 combo, and the Hi-5, all connected to the camera EMIP module?
You can disable Iris control on the Hi-5 and let the Ocu-1 have it, what's the point of adding the RIA-1 to the camera?
I mean sure it increases stability and range of the signal by using the 2400 module, so maybe that's useful for a shot where the camera goes far away from the DoP or DIT controlling the iris, but other than that it's just adding another accessory to the camera...
    Can anyone enlighten me?

Hey Thomas, Sean here. It's for exactly the situation that you mention, where the camera is typically closer to the focus puller than the DIT. We often see that this is the case in large sound stages, which are also typically a very tricky RF environment. We found that this was by far the biggest use case for the ERM-2400 LCS devices as well. If you're not in an environment where range is a big concern, then the RF-EMIP is the best option for multiple hand units connecting to one camera!

Thanks for these videos! Can you tell me if camera start / stop would work with an Arri SR3 + master grip? / SR3 + Hi-5? Thank you!

Hi Victor, you will need to use a motor controller that supports the CAM connection, and a CAM to RS cable. You could connect Master Grips to a RIA-1, and have the RIA-1 pass the R/S signal to the SR3 with the CAM to RS cable, that will work. Hi-5 connected to RIA-1 (or UMC-4 etc) will also work. However, Master Grips with LBUS to RS will not work directly.

If I don’t want to have camera connectivity but just use the RIA as a motor driver do I just power the RIA with Dtap-Lbus?

Hey Flynn, yes that would work nicely, and power will flow to the motors. CAM to RS or D-Tap is also another option.

Is there a solution for connecting to a Cine tape 2? Cant seem to find the correct interface cable...

Hi Michael, we don't offer that cable, i'd suggest reaching out to Cinematography Electronics directly.
