- Barge slams into Galveston bridge in Texas, causing partial collapse and shutdown. A barge collided with Pelican Island Bridge in Galveston, Texas, on Wednesday morning, partially collapsing a rail line running adjacent to the bridge and causing an oil spill, according to a statement from authorities, though no injuries have been reported.

I live 45 minutes from Galeston and I'm 75 yrs first time I've known this to happen so what is going on. This is not a coincidence.
happened 2001 to Queen Isabella Causeway over to South Padre Island, but that really was an accident......this barge is not even anywhere near the barge channel under the bridge. I agree not coincidence anymore, this stuff happens too often theses days.
Used to live in Galveston. Worked for the historical society and the last major hurricane. I it started with an i. I can't remember what the name of it was, but it was a big one where the Houston acetone was crowded and everything else when I was living in Galveston

My neighbor was stuck on the island when the bridge was struck. He said some authority flew a drone under it and decided it was safe to let one vehicle at a time cross the bridge, instructing each driver to stay under 15mph. That's how he was able to leave the island.
I haven't believed in coincidence for years now.
Someone needs to study the strategic placement of these bridges. This may be a slow process to cripple our defensive ability or to assist someone's offensive ability.

If you look at the pillar at the accident site, they are to close for a barg to go under, unless they are at the other end. Do your search and look at the size of the barg.
The only access under the bridge is on the other end. If you look on google maps, it shows a section of the bridge that lefts to allow them to get under. This was either an act of incompentice or intentional
People live on this island. I use to haul shrimp from there. Don’t sound right making them move. Something isn’t right

They shouldn't allow this barge to sit there, it's full of flammable oil, longer it's there the greater risk of an explosion to finish off that bridge.

I live in Texas and that bridge is not wide enough in between the posts for that huge wide barge/boat to try and navigate under that bridge. The person that was operating the barge must be a five year old. Common sense went out the window. Our government NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THIS COMPANY and the person that was operating this barge/boat. It's very "fishy" and more boat accidents with bridges involved less than 6 months. Hmmm??

A barge hit the bridge here in Fort Madison Iowa last week. There is no damage to the bridge. However, sunk one section of the barge, and they are raising it today...

Five minutes Four seconds in, apologies for missing the live stream. I have been across that bridge several times. There are two facilities just up stream of this bridge that perform barge maintenance as well as one facility close to the I-10 bridge in the northern part of the bay. The tracks, thankfully, look like maintenance was being performed. Check your video of the break in the track. One side looks ready to use but the other side looks stacked like they were assembling it. Track for such a bridge is assembled in sections then put fully together on site. This might have been an accident, check the currents around the barge pictured, but I will be skeptical until further info is received.

This collision will not shut down much. Some shipyards, the A&M campus and Sea Wolf Park will be most inconvenienced. Not much in the way of ship traffic at that location.

Run away barges are not uncommon in South Texas but it usually happens when we have flood waters and its hard to tie off barges because of the force of the water. We have had a lot of rain and flooding. I wouldn't be suspicious of anything other than the floods.
