  • In mid-1954, a riveted nation watched Senator Joseph McCarthy accuse the U.S. Army of being infiltrated by communists. But the army's lawyer, Joseph Welch refused to be bullied, and struck back.

    • @JohnB-dr8sk
      @JohnB-dr8sk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, and what people didn't know about Eisenhower at the time was that although he was a Republican, he was a member of Leftist Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which was founded by a Marxist in 1921 for the purpose of slowly establishing world government and dissolving America's borders and Constitution. Eisenhower was also instrumental in removing all the anti-communist laws at the time that barred Marxists from working in schools, colleges and in the government.

      Actually, that isn’t remotely how the Salem witch trials went down. The play “The Crucible” was written as a criticism of the red scare, but in real life people were not convicted of witchcraft based on the accusations of children. 53 people admitted to being witches and werewolves on their own accord. Likely hallucinogenic drug use.

    • @carlsnyder4833
      @carlsnyder4833 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @wajidhussain5305 it wasn't remotely like that at all. The Salem Witch Trials were a clear case of the Emperor wearing no clothes. McCarthy and those who were weary of Communists were not looking for people who thought taxes should be raised to pay for more welfare. They were not looking for people who'd read the Communist Manifesto in college. They were asking "Were you a member of a secret organization taking orders from a foreign power intentionally designed to destroy the current political system and implement a totalitarian dictatorship based on violence."
      In Salem, there were no witches. In the 50's there WERE communists. Stalin and the USSR got the nuclear bomb through a network of communist spies that stole the tech from Los Alamos. MacCarthy may have over reached but he wasn't delusional. It was a legitimate threat.

    Actually there may have been some truth to what he was saying about Communists being tolerated in the military. Years ago I read a book about Oswald, and it said that when he was a young Marine stationed in Japan working as a radar tech, that he openly received Communist magazines in his mail and that the Marine Corps didn’t care. Some of his fellow Marines were shocked that he was so open about his support of Russian and Communism, receiving books and magazines, attending meetings of a Communist group in town (I don’t recall the name of the city where he was stationed), and basically thumbing his nose at the Corp, all without any inquiry or action being taken. This would have been in the late 50s.

      Well he completely lost his entire political career, all his power, and all his money, and he spent the last few decades of his life drinking himself to death as a sad old broke alcoholic, eventually his liver killing him from cirrhosis from the alcoholism.
      President Eisenhower is the one who brought him down although he did it all in secret. He planned this for years, and his plan worked perfectly, it made Mccarthy lose all his credibility and they prevented him from ever getting elected again. Mccarthy's mistake was to criticise the military, claiming that it was overridden with communist spies. Eisenhower, being the top military General before his presidency and now was obviously the commander in chief, absolutely hated Mccarthy from that day onwards. Though he never spoke about it publicly. But yeah, that was such a slap in the face to a 5 star general like Eisenhower that it became his mission to take down Joe mcarthy completely and utterly so that he'd never be able to tear the country apart with lies again. And Eisenhower won that war, that secret war, like he won every war. That's what he does. He's _THE_ General of generals, generally
