Yeah definitely everyone’s experience is unique. When I came there and did nothing to upset other citizens, I was treated harshly. I didn’t look ugly or express my religion. I’m not Muslim, I just look very Chinese and Japanese. Some people who were Japanese seemed to have a good time but I’ve met a lot more rude people than polite and nice. Though maybe my standards were raised from Japan. Singapore was a bit of the same and they had rly nice food to make up for it but I cannot say the same abt South Korea. Yes, as a Korean I can tell you so many people are racist and afraid of differences (like religion) due to Korea being a homogeneous country but not all of us are shitty lol. Being wary is different than being straight up a bully. If they were wary then they would have avoided her and do their own business. But cornering a girl and mocking her, pushing her around, is not being wary. Were they really wary in their own home country all because of a single girl? What was she gonna do? Poison them or steal their boyfriends? Stereotypical mentality isn't an excuse for bullying.

Most middle eastern countries give priority to preserve their Islamic heritage and culture and are very protective of it. And that’s not being racist. And it’s okay for other countries to be protective of their culture and traditions the same way. I lived in a predominantly Buddhist neighborhood and suddenly a Muslim organization started to buy land from that area and had their people occupy them in 6 months. They built a mosque right infront of the Buddhist temple and started playing their prayers through loudspeakers. Of course, naturally the older residents started to feel threatened.

Malaysia is a Muslim dominated country. Our official religion is Islam. But everyone is very tolerant of each other. We got churches and temples everywhere. Granted, we are multicultural people sharing a land together, so we don't have any problem with each others religion as long as we respect each other. You know what's funny? My mother used to have a Catholic French woman as her boss and that woman used to say that if only she can shoots those people who did azaan in the dawn because its so noisy and disturbed her sleep. Freaking foreign woman who came to our country and said horrible things like that. If you're so bothered by it, then go back to your own country.

Christians, Muslims and Jewish people have been living side by side in the middle east through history!! Christians of Iraq are considered to be one of the oldest christian communities in the world too. There are so many churches, for example, in them middle east that were built many centuries ago e.g. Samoun Al-Safa Church built in the 9th century... Syriac Catholic Al-Tahira churge built in 1859. Most people are not that up-to-your-face racist that they'll attack you or insult you in front of others(but there's always ppl who'll do just that too) but being openly different be it your religion, race, disability, sexuality, gender etc does warrant some type of hostility in most cases.
For example, as a mongolian most people do not mind difference in religion or race but conservative ppl always talk about how one should not associate with such cultures and in general lack knowledge about these things.
There's a slur in mongolia called 'lalar' which is a very bad racist slur against islams.
Most ppl dont even know or care for that matter that they're being disrespectful and racist. I do wonder if such homogenous countries such as us will one day be able to open up to others differences.

I will just tell you bluntly, Koreans do not give af. The Korean public simply does not go out of their way to interact with strangers, they will not even look at you, they’re honestly always just looking at their phones or just straight ahead like everyone else is invisible. It’s honestly the reason why I don’t really believe a lot of SEA people that come online and say they have received some vocal racism from Koreans when the people there do not expend positive or negative energy toward any strangers whether it be foreigner or not. I was puzzled about this cuz I’m Asian American and In the States there is honestly a lot of public interaction going on; good and bad, but in Korea, there’s literally close to zero. Maybe it’s cuz they spend so much of their day with thousands of strangers on public transport that they’ve evolved to just pretend like everyone else is invisible idk 🤷‍♀️ the middle aged to elderly Koreans are the nicest. They were around when SK was still relatively a warm, not as wealthy, developed country. They’re more willing to help you out and ask you where you’re from , and such. But korea, Japan are not like SEA countries where the locals are very outwardly friendly to tourists, travelers. Ig cuz their countries don’t depend on tourism ,. Idk. They honestly just mind their own business and go about their day no matter what.

@@Fartsquad_ It's because if even 1% of the population is discriminatory, someone living in the country will still eventually run into someone like that. And we know for a fact that Korea has issues with colourism, sexism, racism, and xenophobia, so I do believe it'sore than 1%. But anyways, this is the reason visitors will most likely be fine, but anyone staying there for an extended period is likely to run into such issues.

@@rownii Koreans eat a lot of meat, but they also eat a lot of seafood, some of which she could eat. And they employ heavy use of eggs and tofu as well, so vegetarian meals definitely exist even at normal restaurants. But if you wanted to be extra careful, SK is a majority Bhuddist country, and strict Bhuddists don't eat meat - so there are vegetarian restaurants that cater to them. There are some halal restaurants in Seoul as well, though they are rare. Halal meat is easier to obtain, so Muslims living in Korea would probably just be cooking mostly at home.

Korean muslims don't go around discarding their korean Identity and embracing a fake arabic identity that's why you don't notice them, they blend pretty well among other koreans and ,only foreigners who look and wear foreign dresses to them get discriminated in korea for being different.
Ofc discrimination is wrong and I'm not defending the discrimination but just stating the thing as they are in korea. Korean muslims live at more ease than foreign muslims in korea.
Also i think nobody cares about yours religion in korea until you go around showing it off and go around telling people you're this and that or randomly start promoting your religion.

@@nami20622 it’s a very disrespectful belief to hold, based on absolutely nothing factual. it’s the parents who make you a muslim, no one is born religious. religion is a tool for societal control, invented and perpetuated by society and government, which is why you’ll find different religions across the world and why not everyone followed the same religion in the human era before international travel was so possible.

I never understand hijabis doing full face makeup. On one hand you say you want to be modest and on the other hand you are accentuating your face and features and choosing to associate your mood with your looks.
P.s. I personally think modesty comes from personal conduct rather than what we wear or put on our faces. Just always confused by hijabis like her who seem to contradict themselves
