Solo Tree Worker - Close Call While Removing Large Branch. WATCH TO THE END!

  • We all know it's now a smart thing to do hazardous jobs by yourself - solo, in other words. If anything goes seriously wrong, there is no one around to render first aid or to rescue you in an emergency. That being said, why do people do it? I do it because I do not have people readily available to help me out on the ground. I also do it because I spend a lot of time assessing the risks involved with every job - even when I'm not working solo. Every move is calculated and thought out. Redundancies are put in place. And my confidence level allows me to feel comfortable working solo.
On this particular day, I was only able to remove the several smaller trees and the one big branch in this black walnut tree before daylight started fading in sunset.
This is fun stuff for me but don't conflate me having fun with me not caring about my safety. I care deeply for my safety, my ground crew safety and my client's safety.
I DO NOT recommend doing this kind of work by yourself. You must consider all the details and risk I mentioned earlier before ever attempting to do this by yourself. You have been warned!

Wow! What a video! This took me a while to put together because so many things went wrong in the process. But I did it. Please watch this to the end and leave some comments when you get there. Love you folks! Be kind and love one another.

"Well, wasn't that interesting" as you gather yourself and think through that close call. All the preparation in the world and following your instincts put you in a position to avoid injury, near miss instances are the most valuable lessons, trouble is, most don't learn from near misses. You will, I have no doubt! You rock in the tree tops WP, be safe up there, and keep in mind that "patiently and persistently" go a long way in personal safety. Keep taking your time to take care, to take care up there! Have a good one and of course, Hey to Suz the Q! 🐶

Words well spoken, moofdogg mike! I don't like getting hurt and I don't think I would like dying either so my plan is to not let either of those things happen! Suz the Q sends her greetings to you! Thanks for the feedback and the kind words my friend! Stay kind!

I'm glad you didn't get injured. Even though you "spew words out" of your mouth (your words) I like you too much to see you squished by a tree in a video. By the way I am verbose as well 😃 so we should get along great! Hug Suzie for me! Love ya!

Haha! I know we would get along great, Angie! I'm real self conscious of how much I talk though. I try to work on not repeating myself and staying on point but it's no use. I always end up with diarrhea of the mouth. It's just the way I am. Love you sweetheart. I hope you're staying warm up in the north country. Stay well and kind!

I would be lying if I said things couldn't be better so I'm not gonna say it. But I don't mind struggling through challenges that come my way. Life is great! I hope you're well too my friend! Stay warm and kind up there is cold country!

Scheib! Thanks brother! This was a long time in the making as you can tell by the leaves still in the trees. We’re still struggling with internet. Great to hear from you!

There is a definite art to rigging. Experience is the best teacher. I found a book at one of my saw shops THE TREE CLIMBER'S COMPANION it has a lot of situational ideas for different rigging. 🧡🔥👊🏼👍🏼

I have that book. It was one of the first books I purchased when first started into the profession. It’s simple and to the point. Love you brother!

    Hi, Wayne.
I am greeting you, Abbot from faraway Slovakia, and I must tell you that I like to watch your videos. They are instructive for me because I don't know if I went crazy for my age, but I started to like this job. I also learn only from videos and also from your complete basics, but it doesn't work otherwise, and especially in everything, it is always necessary to think very much about how and what to do best. You pleased me with a new video very instructive for me. I will buy the equipment gradually, because everything costs a lot of money and it is difficult for us to put something away from such things. But I'm sure I'll be Petzl stuff.
I greet my brother and wish you all the best. God bless you and I look forward to the next video.

Hi Peter! You are not crazy for liking tree work. You are probably the kind of person who likes to know how things work. You also like to solve problems. And you like to do work that keeps you physically and mentally fit. These are all commendable traits, especially for older people. Safety is the top priority and the rest of it is learning and having fun! Thank you so much for the kind comment, Peter! Stay safe, warm and kind!

Yep. No doubt. The only thing I can say is when you’re working solo, you really have to take it slow. Great to hear from you my friend!
