    It is wonderful to see a HUMAN side to a driver. When watching an F1 race all you see is a helmet surrounded by a machine and you think to yourself that the driver is just a part of that machine - Emotionless, Programmed, Robotic. They are anything but - they are people. Nico exploded out of his cocoon as a stoic F1 driver to show us all the intensity and pressure of a championship race. You don't get to see this very often. Promote this F1, this is what people want to see, that drivers are human - intensely human. Good stuff Nico! Congratulations!

      What are you talking about dude? You can easily know from team radios when drivers are mad or excited, some of them are of course more quiet like Bottas but others like Vettel, Verstappen and others are more expresive.

      He didn't need his poker face any more. He'd already decided he wasn't coming back. I thought at the time it was strange that he had opened up so completely like this and admitted how hard the pressure was, and I was just starting to think how great it was to see him give a frank answer for a change, then he goes and retires! A pity. That's a side of Nico I would have liked to have seen more of. I'm pleased for him that he achieved his life's ambition. Now he can find a new one.

      This will sound like complete BS now but the moment he won the title and I saw him being interviewed afterwards I got a message from a Finnish friend of mine who became a fan of his after meeting him in Hungary back in 2015 as they were staying in the same hotel and she told me that she thought he would now retire. I thought she was crazy at the time but then I remembered what she told me about that weekend and the meeting they had on the Saturday night before the race, he happened to sit down in the restaurant next to my friend and her daughter who were chatting away in Finnish about the race and he got into a conversation with them.
      During this conversation my friend revealed that she had just retired from a 40 year career in Midwifery and from that moment that was all they talked about. It turned out his wife was about 8 months pregnant at the time and he had a helicopter on standby and had told the team that if Vivian rang a phone that he had given to his trainer, a phone that only she had the number to, that even if he happened to be leading the race and a phone call came they were to call him into the pits and retire him so he could leave asap and get to Monaco for the birth.
      He was so fretful and miserable at the thought of not being there for her birth and he spoke a lot about how he did not want to miss some of the milestones in her life, in fact my friend did begin to think that he might retire at the end of 2015 as he seemed quite conflicted even then about what he might miss out on. Anyway, he paid for my friend and her daughter's meals and put a hefty amount of money behind the bar which allowed them to have a decent drink that night and on the sunday night. He also had someone from the Mercedes PR team go to their room late on the Saturday night to give them paddock passes and inform them that they were on the list to watch the race from his garage if they wanted to which of course they accepted.
      They had an amazing time and after the race he came to speak to them, remembered their names and thanked my friend for easing his mind somewhat about childbirth as he was worried about all the things that could go wrong and such. When his daughter was born in the summer break, my friend sent a card and a Moomin cuddly toy to Nico and within about a week she got handwritten letters of thanks from Nico AND from his wife who thanked her for 'calming my slightly hysterical husband down'.
      So yeah, sorry for the long reply but in short what I am trying to say is don't be fooled by the PR image some put up. That is what frustrated me so much with Nico as he always wanted to be seen as the nice guy and he took a fair amount of flak from the British media and in the end I just wanted him to take the bad boy role and run with it instead of trying to be so nice all the time.

    What separates Rosberg from Bottas is that Rosberg was willing to stand up to Hamilton and was man enough to fight him for championships despite being the number 2 driver. I think Rosberg will go down as one of the greatest number 2 drivers of all time as he actually beat the number 1 driver for the title and it's not just any number 1 driver, it's a driver that's arguably the greatest driver of all time at the peak of his powers, I feel like all number 2 drivers in the future should look up to Rosberg (Hamilton Fan by the way).

      Not only that but mainly race craft. Bottas can be super quick but he does not have the all around ability and pace to challenge Lewis consistently in the races. Nico did however, and he always fought hard against Lewis and as long as both drivers have similar points in the championship, they are allowed to race. Those "Valteri, it's James" situations only happened because Bottas was already way behind and out of contention for the championship.

    As a Hamilton fan, I must say I now respect Nico so much. Today I have learnt that perception is everything. I started watching Formula 1 in 2019 and had to watch many historical F1 videos. All videos I have watched, they always showed Nico as the villain. It made me hate him since I though he was deliberately trying to sabotage Hamilton's races. I have just realized I hated him for no reason. I could not even watch his videos on youtube. Boy, was I wrong. Sorry Nico, I am coming to sub your channel just now. For everyone outhere, have you ever hated someone or something for no reason, start questioning why you do, you may be hating the wrong person. I am now so happy he won the Championship. • @smokeduv
      @smokeduv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not hating, but disappointed. It was Hamilton in this race in particular (and many others, but I'll address this one right now), because he was not trying to win the race, he was trying to make Nico lose second place going very slow to the point that half of the grid got very close, and that was for like half of the race because this is a very difficult circuit to overtake, hoping that Vettel and/or Verstappen make a move to pass Rosberg and disobeying every order to raise the pace (which I know, I'm all in for drivers to just race and not follow team orders, but this was ridiculous)

He needed 2 more years for that and some luck, yeah, but he was definitely much closer competitor for championship than Bottas.
