Hello, I am a Japanese who was introduced to you by The tubro channel and was looking forward to this video. I was trying to identify the company name of the truck with the "S" on the right side of the Kabuki-za photo and the sushi restaurant heartman was at, but unfortunately without success: ...... I had never heard of the second heartman before. It seems that he was not related to the first heartman, but I salute you for finding out facts that I had not been able to find out!

8:02 There are people known as "doujin music hoarders", and they are basically people who look for rare indie music from Japan. They intentionally buy up CDs as a collector, and "gatekeep" on purpose to drive their price up and to keep them hidden from the public/available. Docpile may be doing something similar, it is definitely not because he doesn't have access to the magazine. It's for the clicks/feed/attention, not genuine history preservation.
The dude who did the magazine scans is just full of it tbh. "I am dedicated to not revealing information because of [insert bull "artistic" reason here]"
I would understand if it were his photos, but even as altruistic as archival is, it’s using someone else’s work for your own benefit at the end of the day. He should be more than happy and willing to spread the credits of the work he’s using when asked.
This is pretty normal for Tumblr. It's not about archiving media until the heat death of the universe, it's an aesthetics blog. The OP has their hobby. I don't think it's reasonable to demand they do hours of sorting and documenting for your hobby.

Archiving is about the preservation of information, as well as the organization of it. One of the benefits of archiving is helping people have accessibility to the information being preserved. Oh so this guy gets to wear fake Valentine's Day hearts he's cute and fascinating, but when i dress up in a suit made of real human hearts i'm a "serial killer"? Completely unfair.
It always warms my heart to see people step together trying to find something so obscure and technically inconsequential. the sheer curiosity and devotion of the human spirit on display... this video was very relevant to my interests, i've seen the heartman on tumblr before and loved the feeling of the images, and i remember briefly trying to see where he came from, with no success of course. I hope you get to post an update about this someday soon, I'll surely be there to watch it

Holy sh*t!! I drew this character way back when I was in kindergarten in the 90s!! This is so creepy to me… like a core memory has been unlocked after so long… I don’t remember the reason why I drew this but I 1000% remember I just did. Except I called him Love Bug and I colored his heart antennas gold. If anything I probably did see a reference of Heart Man somewhere if 6 year old me drew it.
since he's apparently of japanese origin, i'd love it if the original were to be called Kokotarō (from kokoro - heart and a reference to Momotarō the peach boy of legend)

First seeing the images I immediately thought of the mascot trend in Japan where so many distinct areas, cities, towns, businesses, etc have their own mascots. My guess is a business near the area at the time or some random person wanting to be apart of the mascot craze. Hopefully we'll get to find out. Then my stupid brain thought, this was the character Cut Man beat out to appear in the first Mega-Man game, because for every rational thought I have there must be an immediate ridiculous one.
This video caught my eye because the “Heart Man” is a scary story my mom used to tell me as a kid because she experienced it as a kid. She grew up in Jackson, Michigan in the 70’s. Allegedly there was a house that wasn’t abandoned but no one ever entered or left. She was told the “Heart Man” lived there and not to go inside. One day she stuck her head in there though, and she told me all she could hear was the loud sound of a heart beating coming from the basement.
you never know. they are strikingly similar. but consider "simultaneous invention". there are many instances of people with no knowledge of each other, perhaps even on opposite ends of the world, creating something unique and novel at the very same time. photography was invented by two men in the same year who had no idea of the other. same with light bulbs, and the telephone. my point is it could easily go either way. i love yuta knows, or he doesn't. i wish they'd found a way to contact him. an interview with him would be a treat in itself even if it doesn't give any more leads for the original search.
A lot of people can make costumes and not realize that there was another character that looks a lot like theirs, Listen I'm an artist, I make a lot of characters and there are those times where I make a character and accidentally look a lot like another character I did not know at the time. I'm not saying that heartman 2 did not have any inspiration of Heartman 1, I'm just saying that the chance isn't an absolute zero
The old heartman is like this perfect mix between creepy and cute. I love his beady little eyes and weird heart antennas. The design reminds me a bit of Bijinder from Android Kikaider
I'm sure Docpile didn't mean anything malicious by it but as a photographer, both the picture takers and performers in the images (if applicable) not getting proper credit is already a pretty serious problem in our field and so refusing to credit the original source and people bug me a lot.
@@salemccc Sometimes I joke that I picked the 'wrong' artistic field to pursue for a lot of reasons lol. I love being a photographer but it don't always love me. Hella expensive, big barrier to entry, jobs don't pay well, crediting work often gets ignored, constant disrespect from other artists and a lot of photographers who've been in the field for awhile are pretty smug (latter two aren't big deals, but they're annoying lol). If I hear another photographer tell me "have you considered NOT trying to profit off your work..." I'm going to lose it lmao.

I have a Vivid remembrance of this footage!!! believe it was played on the grayish metallic vhs player it used to display the clock in red on the bottom right This footage gave me nightmares ....I remember his voice feminine and high pitched ... there was a song playing here and there in the footage and mid play he talked about how the world is backwards especially JAPAN? idk ... But the way it spoke gave me the chills then I didnt sleep well for like a week after that my father sold it to some store Idk but I remember the high pitched feminine voice of his ... idk maybe it was our vhs player it used have problem like that .... and yeah in the opening there was a name ... it was tatsuya mushimoto or matsumoto ... bro really spent a minute to explain cmyk printing to us as if there's any other way people are printing photos right now 😭 but if y'all wanted to know, the moire does point more toward an analogue four-color process like screen printing or offset (as opposed to digital). but we already knew that as it came from scans of old magazines, which almost certainly would have been printed offset

I’m thinking the the newer heart man is the same person. Not only is the design similar but they both did similar work. In one of the older photos heart man was working with children, and the same with the newer one.

However if he did state this he could have also meant that he started using the guitar as part of his costume & featuring the guitar as the main performance. The old one does not feature one while the newer one does. All speculation
Yeah I don't know why he doesn't say it's possible. Like the guy says he was inspired by anpanman not the other heartman that looks identical and his takeaway is they aren't linked, not that this guy is the same guy and therefore wasn't inspired by himself.
it specifically says that he said "i first appeared in the public eye in february 2005" so that's probably why it's assumed yuta isn't the original heartman.
In Japan, there's something known as Gotōchi/Local Heroes. These are kinda like unofficial mascots for certain areas, and are done in a similar style to characters like Ultraman, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai/Power Rangers. It could be possible that Heart-Man was a local hero in Tokyo's Chūō Ward, which includes Ginza.

Lost fashion is a type of lost media I didn't even consider. We should find and archive lost fashion as much as any other kind of lost media.

I’m thinking the the newer heart man is the same person. Not only is the design similar but they both did similar work. In one of the older photos heart man was working with children, and the same with the newer one.

@@_end3rguy_I rewatched the section featuring Yuta and saw no mention of starting in 2005. However if he did state this he could have also meant that he started using the guitar as part of his costume & featuring the guitar as the main performance. The old one does not feature one while the newer one does. All speculation
Yeah I don't know why he doesn't say it's possible. Like the guy says he was inspired by anpanman not the other heartman that looks identical and his takeaway is they aren't linked, not that this guy is the same guy and therefore wasn't inspired by himself.
it specifically says that he said "i first appeared in the public eye in february 2005" so that's probably why it's assumed yuta isn't the original heartman.

In Japan, there's something known as Gotōchi/Local Heroes. These are kinda like unofficial mascots for certain areas, and are done in a similar style to characters like Ultraman, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai/Power Rangers. It could be possible that Heart-Man was a local hero in Tokyo's Chūō Ward, which includes Ginza.
