Put in place to protect the royal family, the guards are a symbol of London and are some of the highest trained soldiers in the world. In fact, if an absent-minded tourist doesn't stay out of their way, they have all the right to use force and knock them over. @@mb5359 it's more than that they almost have the power of the sovereign (the queen) which is why if you are in their way they can do anything in their power to move you, which isn't limited to shouting at the top of their lungs, stamping really hard, physically pushing you with as much force as necessary but also shooting someone or stabbing with their bayonet without repercussions, it never comes to that because the shout and push method basically always works

From this retired American Soldier to all Royal Guards, I have nothing but the utmost respect for you and the job you perform.
They treat these guards like they're a spectacle or just nutcracker statues on a Christmas mantle. The disrespect for fellow human beings is disgusting.
If you didn't know, most of these guys are trained elite soldiers and most likely have combat experience.

While it's funny to us, it may not be so funny to the guard. If they are caught laughing or smiling by a superior officer they are fined around ₤200 (approximately $260) from their pay.

My late father was a serving soldier in the first battalion irish guards from the age of 17teen to the age of 55, my father and his fellow soldiers are trained to serve, they have two images, one ceremonial, they are also committed to laying down their life for queen and Country, now king and Country, as an army child I have nothing but respect for the guards, no matter which regiment or battalion, through my fathers service to the crown, . he saw active duty and served in Cyprus, United Arab Emirates , the Malay peninsular, , Belize, Egypt, South yemen, aden, Hong Kong, Singapore Germany, . He saw all the trouble spots of Britain's withdrawal from the empire, whilst being awarded many campaign medals along the way, I have absolutely no regrets of the life we lived, every two years moved from country to country, I have nothing but pride and respect for Britain's armed forces, I wish I had the composure that these guys have, I know I would be less forgiving

I’ve been to London once. Stopped there on my way to Belfast to visit some family. Wanted to see Buckingham palace and the tower. When at Buckingham I approached a guard and saluted him and asked if I could take a picture next to him and if so stomp once, he did and got a great picture of me right next to him. After taking the picture he muttered thank you. I was the only yank tourist to ask him to have a picture taken and he appreciated my approaching him with respect as a soldier and a human being.

@@logman4948 all the queens guards and there's 5 regiments of them they are all trained solders they all have passed the infantryman combat course that all.british infantry soldiers have to pass they have had all had tours of combat areas the coldstream guards and grenider guards have some of the highest Victoria cross awards then most other regiments in the all.the forces there is no most of them about they are all infantry soldiers

Reason the solider “ pushed “the woman away from him when she stood ” to close “ for a photo was due to the fact that she was standing on his side where he had his weapon “ firearm “ at rest and with the muzzle of the rifle pointed up. He was actually moving her for HER safety and his. People do NOT realize or understand that THESE SOLDIERS ARE IN FACT REAL SECURITY FOR THE QUEEN AND THEIR WEAPONS ARE REALLY LOADED WITH LIVE AMMUNITION !!! Now had she been on the other side of him she would have been fine. When I was on Marine Corps weapons drill team and Honor Guard in the military this was also rule also when people wanted to get photos while we were performing a duty.

I’m from Hawaii and we had the Royal Palace Guards of the Queen before but I guess the state couldn’t afford maintaining them. I love the rich cultural heritage of all royal guards from England and all over the world.
