Not to be killed in day or night time, neither by man nor by animal, not inside the house or outside it .But the supreme lord was way smarter than Hiranyakashipu.... I opined the piller represents ego that's very tough and prahlada who represents the sufferer, is the child of hiranyakashyap who represents the karma. In order to save the sufferer from his bad karma mighty energy which Lord narasimha represents, had broken the ego and decimated the negative karma and relieves the sufferer so that the sufferer to be unites with the great energy. This is I think not a story of a God and devotee. It's about the salvation, eternity.
