No 4 string is more richer sound plus the song good times sounds better with a 4 string then 5 or 6 Sir and some people don't have money like that at all for those types of bass
I am keyboard/piano guy of 40yrs. Went and bought a Squire Precision Bass. Tried my hand about 15yrs ago on Bass with a 5 stg but never tackled Fundamentals. Went back to 4 stg. My main playing for learning is church worship music. Spent about $400 and very happy with my purchase so far
It was a pleasure jamming to this track, Jermaine. Thanks again for the opportunity! And the bass I'm playing is a Cole Clark LLB5. Bought it last year at Gruhn Guitars in Nashville!
I decided to jump from 4 to 5 a couple of years ago. Started with an ibanez 1205 but now play mtd Kingston super 5 which i adore playing. I do love the sound of your warrior. My pet hate bass is the hofner violin. Bless you Jermaine
I personally flip flop between the Jazz bass 5 and the Stingray 5. The Jazz never feels out of place but the stingray is so nice for Gospel with its midrange growl and spanky high end
i'm experimenting with the Cort A6 right now, a "cheap" neck through 6 string bass. ( 800-900 euro range). it has bartolini pickup and even tho its on the cheaper chinese side, apparently they are similar to those in MTD. i switch the cheap preamp for a Delano sonar ( 3 band eq with mid swich and push pull active/passive ) and its really great now. it can do a lot of sound, because the pickup are in a similar position as the ken smith, you can eq it to sound really close to one. and because the pickup are split coil, solo the front one, put some flatwound, a bit of eq ( to tame the brightness) and now you sound like Pino. i was a jazz bass type player for many years but i had so many problem with that type of instrument. the scooped sound that don't cut well in some band, demanding to mess with the amp-eq between each music, the 60s cycle hum that forbid me to solo pickups etc. plus all my jazz bass have a ski-jump and some neck issue. modern instrument with neck though, with humbucker/split coil seem to be more "solid" in a live setting where you don't know if the light, electricity, weather conditiion will mess everything. i only use my jazz bass in a controlled environment aka my home studio.
I like the 6 string best. I played a Peavey Cirrus 5 string for over 20+ yr.A couple of years ago just to have I got a Squier Jazz 4, for a year it was my favorite because I never really played a 4 string long before I jumped to 5. Unfortunately the Squier Jazz had a sound my friends that had Fenders were amazed that it sounded better than theirs. But I didn't like the restrictions I had on the 4 and wanted a little more than the 5.Since I no longer play with a gospel group,I decided to try a 6 string. For 2 yrs now I've been in love with my ESP LTD 6 string. I now want to excel so I know I must learn some theory and other things you offer. Need a link to check out your courses. Sorry so long 😊😊😊 My next baby is going to be a 70's Squier Precision, to complete my collection and I'll have every bass I ever wanted....😁😁😁😁
That surine did it for me, it has great authority & clarity lovely bass, ive been on the journey for the right bass for me over the years, i finally settled on a mayones slogan 5 & a 1995 warwick thumb 5 but my biggest regret in life was selling my ken smith bt6 & hopefully one day i can afford to buy another but they ain't cheap lol,, lovin your playing & learning from you 👍
Loved the sound on your 6 string cause the sound was well rounded and clean along with sounding balanced.the low,, mid's, and high came through real nice. 😊
Not new to music. I play keys whether that’s piano, keyboard, or organ. And I’ve played for my church. But I’m new to the bass. My wife bought me a 5 string Ibanez
@@daniel-1998 I don’t think the number of strings are an issue. Just getting use to a new instrument. I can pick up on things fairly easy but right now it’s an uphill battle.
As a bass player, you need a Crate Electra solid body, an Hofner hollow body , a fretless, and a 5 string. You could get a jaguar short scale and a regular scale Hondo II bass too. You should try out a jazz bass and Precision bass. Try out a VOX bass and a Made in Japan Westone basses. The most important thing is to learn how to read bass charts, with chord progressions and also written out bass clef manuscript. Bass players do not have to know how to solo and improvise over a set of chord changes, but it helps if you do know how.Your job is to lay it down for the other instruments, like Saxophones, guitars, trumpet and organ
I play a 4str Fender mustang that I call Michelle that named after my wife who picked it for me. The tone is great, it inspires me learn and I never get bored with playing it. By the I like your 5str Fender jazz I like the soft grnice ax In indeedy.
Jermaine always getting good info from you Bro I jumped off the porch and got a Bass Mods 5 string Fred Hammond signature but it took me trading up and saving and it was well worth the wait but it took me playing a 4 string in a studio session and the producer turned to me and said hey man if your gonna do R&B your gonna need a 5 string but I’d just started playing playing a 4 string Lol but it challenged me,,once I purchased the 5 but I’m glad I did and now I’m better on the 5
I have been playing for 40 years and I have 2 Fenders: a 4 string PJ and a 4 string fretless Jazz. I have 2 5 strings: a Warwick Streamer fretless and my number 1 is a 5 string single cut fretless Muckelroy custom that I play in church every week. I think RYAN was playing an F bass.
I think selecting a bass depends on your style of music, your budget, what feels comfortable and sounds good. Amps are to be considered as well. I love 5's, for that B-string. I've had a few basses, ("late-night" pandemic purchases...bad move!), and sold them because they didn't give me what I was looking for, so I ALWAYS go back to my two Fender Jazz Deluxe 5's (2006 & 2011), and I LOVE them, for most genres and styles that I play. Last, good technique with your finger, thumb or pick is essential too.
My favorite was the 5string bass custom bass of yours The tone was like right in the middle. It remind me of a perfect compression pedal. I would like to see this version on different bass amps.
If I had to pick I would pick the first two basses. I prefer them in the order 2,1,4,3 I like the Ibanez SR sound. I played around with different brands at the store before and like that meaty sound. The 1st bass had some of the tone I like but was more smooth when you went up. The 3rd bass had a more round tone. I would have chose the last bass over the 1st one but something more about the tone I liked. That 2nd bass would probably be my go to for sound but then would have to touch each bass to be sure.
I started out on a 5 string fender squirer jazz bass, then I purchased their HH Contemporary Jazz V, Then Last Year I Brought My Dream Bass, A Ibanez BTB 6 string bass. I fell on some hard times, and ended up having to sell The Contemporary Bass. But I still have my dream bass. To your point knowing what your goals are, sound you want to produce, and music you want to play helps… I play gospel, Contemporary Christian, & jazz. My Ibanez hasn’t failed me with its versatility. But I am a fender fan boy first and foremost 😂😂😂😂

As I listen to more and more basses, I'm preferring the sound of a bass that cuts through the music. Clear, more tonal, burpy, like your 2nd and 4th instruments. I can hear every note as opposed to the muddy sound of the other two. I have a '96 Fender P-Bass but, I'm itching for an MTD Kingston Super 5!
Best bass sound for me (that I grew up listening to) is Reggie Parker, Reggie Young and Fred Hammond. I think Parker played a 4 string Pensa jazz style bass detuned, Young played a Ken Smith back in the day and so did Fred Hammond sometimes. Smith and Jazz Style 5 string is my favorite sound for gospel.
I am looking at a Ibanez bass in the 1300 series either with Nord Big Single coils or Big Splits. However, I am really loving the sound of the Fender Jazz or Ultra Jazz 5 string the more I listen to them but it’s way more money. Tough choice. I would almost just bite the bullet and go Fender but idk.
Jermaine, this is great information for a Seasoned Bass Player. God brought me here in Chicago from Detroit to play Gospel Music. My choice of basses are 4 and 5 string. As growing up In listening to all types of Genres, my focus now is Jazz and Jazz Fusion. My main basses are Sire that does the job well and pays bills. You mentioned a 6 string bass and I have one Tune 6 great bass but doesn’t have that sound any suggestions on a purchasing a 6 string?
I was so dissapointed about my Fender Player Plus, sadly the fretboard was so off that levelling the frets didn't help, as a relative beginner I didn't notice this at first, now I'm totally happy with my Squier VM'S 4 string basses, on the lookout for a 5 or 6 string Yamaha.
For me, while i tryn to help new people buying bass I always tells them to hear a lot of basses with good speaker/headphones on youtube Mainly P bass J bass PJ Musicman Double Humbucker Maybe some soapbars And if they dont have preference, or like a lot of it, or didnt want to bother I will just tell them to buy active(with passive switch) soapbars / double Humbucker Cause in my experience, double humbucker is just way too versatile and easy to deal with for beginner, blend pot is easier than saperate volume, no buzz from single coil, a really big and easy to cut thru sound (which helps a lot for beginners to hear it)
I would always reccomrnd a second hand mexican Fender Precision. I personally prefer Jazz basses, but I feel the precision is at the center of the bass playing universe. Motown to Metal, live and Studio, a P bass is imho the right place to start.
I like the tone of your Fender, but personally I've been an Ibanez guy for quite some time now (I'm jonesying for the 6-string multi-scale bass by them) so you know, different beast with the preamp and active pickups. Might just be me though, as I've always been a rock player and heavy metal listener. I've also thought of looking into a Fender-style bass, but I'm a bit picky as I prefer to avoid the neck dive of the standard Fenders that I've played (my left wrist has a titanium plate and thus fighting with a diving neck isn't my favorite thing). Lots of good info in here my friend, keep it up. ;)
I'm goin' with Fender... No bass can beat that clean tone. Lol! I loved all the tones of your basses but I personally like the tone of Fender basses. :P
The Surine had the most balanced tone for this song! Something special naturally happening in the mids, but it doesn’t poke out in the mix too much. Now had you started thumping, that Fender may have kicked the door open 😂
Thanks for your encouragement I got a ibanez SdGr series barolini pick ups I like that 4 string fender you played sweet sound soon i get strait I gonna subscribe your link bruh bless you brutha.
I practice on a Fender CB60se acoustic but I’m slapping a flat wound Squire J at church. I don’t like the flats on the J compared to my acoustic. My next move is a Ray34. Gear acquisition syndrome is real, friends.
Question: Do you think you get a better sound for R&B/Gospel with neck-through or Bolt-on necks? ( I currently have Carvin LB76 neck-through) OR, does the preamp and pick ups effect the sound more?
It's hard getting started the right way for as budget wise...I recently heard a Ken Smith and omg.im sold bt in another life😂.its so confusing for me bc I can't tell if its da guitar or the amp setup.either way ,no matter what my ambition or motivation it starts with your budget.i bought a 6 for $100 and the sound it gives off to me is trash and honestly discouraging to even try the basics..so yes I think I agree mr.morgan
I decided to get them all. Fender jazz basses, 1 p-bass, 2 Ibanez 5 string, 1 5 string fretless Ibanez, 6 string Yamaha. Got rid of the girlfriend so I don't get headaches with any of the tones.
My first bass was a 4 string cheap Stagg jazz-ish bass, but I find 4 string limits me and does not allow to go lower than E without detuning. 5 string jazz bass is where I am at home, and my main bass is Sire V7 5 string ash maple. I played a 6 string and I found little to no use for C string because I am a traditional bass player, I do not do flashy things with my instrument and 6 string bass makes slapping more difficult for me. I would like to have another bass, just a different sound color. Should I go with 5 bass with active humbuckers ? Should I go for a 4 string precision and string it with flatwounds because I have never played an instrument like it ? Maybe a 6 and add a Low F sharp instead of High C to get even more extended low range and to go an octave below traditional 4 string bass ?
Do you have different types of strings between your basses? Does one have flats while the others have rounds? The 6 string sounds like round while the Fender jazz sounded like flats. What gauge range do you have between your basses?
5 of my 6 basses cost over 500 bucks. One of them even crossed the 1000 mark (because it's a fanned fret). I am really happy with the basses between 500 and 1000. The only bass dislike is the one for 300 bucks. It plays okay, but it is WAY to heavy, it does not have a lot of output and its scale length is laughable for a long scale bass.
Learning traditional gospel music is well and great to a point, however an artist in my opinion needs be awesome with and on any instrument you play,by holding down the low end tight and right, you should be able do that with a four string Rouge😏😂 just jokiNg. When it come to basses options are necessary, we are different as bassist we all need variety A 5string my be the motts for you, sometime something as basic as the right strings or the right pedal adjustments make the magic flow 😎
Here is my gift to you jermainemorgan.ck.page/c47bcb4e72
What do you charge for lessons....I'd be interested on Zoom/Teams/Whatsapp Video lessons.

Nice one
Thanks!
Do you have different types of strings between your basses? Does one have flats while the others have rounds? The 6 string sounds like round while the Fender jazz sounded like flats. What gauge range do you have between your basses?
All were round wound. The custom basses were custom light guages. The fender and 4 string JM sig were standard .45s
@@JermaineMorganBass thanks
How about type of strings on those basses?
That Surine man… good golly
My guy! Thanks man.
Bruh it was the second bass for me, what kind is and is it stock, or different pickups or preamp..
Thanks ! It’s a custom Warrior with a custom warrior preamp and bartolini pickups
You can't believe I bought my bass a fender at $50, is it also called a bass that's so cheap
The Fender looked more solid.
Had me at multiple basses my wife probably not so much😂😢
😆😆
6 string, sounded like it had a punch to it
Serine and warrior
Just for the people following Jermaine...I'd stay away from Schecters unless your playing Rock or Heavy Metal
Thanks for the heads up
Six string basses are for babies.Unless your bass has at least 27 strings you wont be able to play anything serious.
Sire Z7-5str Swamp Ash best bass for the money in the world !❤️
Simpel as that ! I have one and it’s outstanding 👍🥲
