Now I have this hc that both Ricky and Noel wrote fanfics. Ricky wrote more general stuff, short drabbles he'd occasionally come up with, and Noel wrote some heavier, more romantic stuff.
I love Ricky blushing so much at the start. And the "NOW?" Frame after "it gets weird now". That made me laugh. And the colours, the colours are so pretty
I have story where a 14 years old girl with only one friend accidentally becomes magical because on her falls magical cat-girl princess from other world after in her country happens Revolution, and she teaches her magic. Just you to know: this princess (her name is Silver) represents divinity, this power main character (Mary) now owns is given generation from generation in her dynasty (I don’t want to go deep into religion here, but if short there is a prophecy what three primordial gods one day will return but now they gave to three dynasties their powers to rule countries they made. WHERE ARE YOU MARIA-) Silver knew from childhood what she can easily die and no one will come to save her, She thinks of others as idiots, because they don’t understand true divinity. Other are worshipping gods because they believe it will save them, she worships them because she idolizes them. She wants to be the first and most divine queen, and be the closest to an actual god. This human friend’s name is Will, and he represents humanity. He’s weak, easy to scare, in a nutshell: loser. And it makes him human, he don’t does anything unforgivable such as murder (his one of three characters who don’t kill in plot, and there is 30-40) or something, but he does have mistakes, and he grows up after this. He can be scared, be happy, he can have friends, family, grow up and die. Isn’t what beautiful? But for person who thinks of humanity as weakness he’s just a clown. What’s one of reasons why he and Silver so f***ing hate each other, she sees in him all of her weaknesses, they literally have same phobias, mainly on what is build their arc. And Mary…..oh Mary…….my controversial bible accurate Mary. Half-God Born from a human, with help of other god, she combines both humanity and divinity, becoming perfect creature for guess who…….Maria! Who’s what? One of primordial gods. In plot Mary does a lot of mistakes, what costs lives of people, she thinks about them and changes, it makes her a human. But on other side she becomes more emotionless and empty, justifies her own actions, starts to think of myself as someone perfect, and becomes divine. And if you think this story isn’t what bible inspired, it’s literally called Miracle Mary what is not only lore accurate but refers to born of main Christian figure, Jesus. Don’t kill me after what pls! I needed to study but instead write this comments about my OCs, MY LIFE IN ONE LINE OMG.
I gotta say, as much as I love this whole animatic, the nervous and confused expressions from the choir TOP IT OFF, LIKE THOSE FRAMES WERE GOLD 😭 And the whole situation with Mirko is downright outrageous to me as well. He really shouldn't have been fired, and I agree that disabled actors should play disabled characters-!!
This was excellent! I love just how confused (and for Ocean specifically, horrified) the choir is and how everyone screams "NOW?!" when Ricky says "It gets weird now". I also love the approach you took with the Zolarian cats, having them resemble the members of the choir with the masquerade masks. And when Ricky is explaining stuff to the choir during the instrumental break, I was laughing my butt off because they all looked so disturbed! And small detail I love: even in his fantasy, Ricky retains his mobility aids, which foreshadows his choice to concede. Ricky is content with his life, so he doesn't get rid his crutches even though this is his fantasy where he's essentially a God and he has no reason to keep them. Overall, 10/10 and I can NOT WAIT for The Ballad of Jane Doe! EDIT: The updated thumbnails look INCREDIBLE! EDIT 2: The design for Count Dogulas is awesome and fits very well with the designs for the Zolarians! EDIT 3: I'm not sure how I never noticed this until now, but I love how every member has a different color associated with them!
I am SO glad you liked the Zolarian designs! They were perhaps one of my biggest challenges in producing this animatic, trying to keep them fit the setting, but still be read as the choir to keep with the small cast that the musical does well in portraying. Ricky keeping his mobility aids was so incredibly important to me as an artist. I've been following a lot the talk about how disability functions in the show, mainly from disabled fans, and ultimately decided that him keeping his crutches was just going to be the most respectful move. I hadn't even really considered the in-universe explanation for it, but the idea that it's because he's content with the life he led just plays so well into the overarching themes that I can't believe I didn't think of it. Glad to see the new thumbnails are hitting well! I've been meaning to change them FOREVER, but hadn't had the time to sit down and do it til now. Thank you so so much for watching, I love seeing your feedback for each of these videos, and I hope you enjoy The Ballad of Jane Doe, because that one is INCREDIBLY soon!
@@dovefilms Yeah, I remember you telling me about your struggles with designing the Zolarians, but I think you did a great job adapting them! I respect your decision to have Ricky always have his mobility aids/crutches. Representation is incredibly important and something as small as keeping those crutches in this animatic can go a long way for someone. But I can't believe you didn't think of the in-universe reason for Ricky keeping his aids in his fantasy! There's always so much detail packed into your animatics I thought that it was intentional that he still had his crutches in his fantasy. Yes, the new thumbnails are just plain EPIC! I love how, despite their slight simplicity, they're still very effective! The addition of the colors makes it even more cool! I feel honored that my feedback has meant so much to you! I'm a massive fan of the idea of RtC animated movie or something (maybe implementing material from several different productions or something), so I greatly appreciate these animatics for doing what I can't do since: 1. I can't animate, haha. 2. Some of these songs, like the current "Uranium Suite" are just too epic for my brain to come up with an animated version for. And you don't have to hope. I already know for SURE I'm gonna LOVE TBoJD!

I've been keeping up with a lot of the discussion around the show's handling of Ricky's disability, and even though I can't change the show itself, I wanted to atleast do my part as an artist in doing what I could ^^

Honestly its so annoying that they don't use the mobility aids in the show. I never saw it (Hell i only knew this musical existed in 2022/23) but its just so... gross in my opinion. Disablity isn't something to be ashamed of
@@dustyrose192 As someone with a mobility disability (albeit not as severe as what’s implied in the show) I think it both makes sense for the character to be disabled or not disabled in the afterlife. They should have two scripts depending on casting. I feel like the most respectful way to handle it would for there to be options, especially considering different people with the same disability might feel completely opposite (like I hate my physical disabilities and the idea of them following me into death is horrific, whereas many people see their disability as just a part of who they are). Such a disappointing decision considering they totally could’ve made accommodations without affecting the show much
I absolutely LOVE how you touch with the musical theatre aspect of the cat people being the choir just dressed up. It’s incredible how recognizable in your art style that you can go “oh, that’s Ocean / Mischa / Constance etc in a cat costume” instead of “new cat person cast.” Adds such a fun element to an already wonderful animatic, your expression work is also so admirable
Yes!! It was really important to maintain that musical theatre aspect, as I feel like RTC really took advantage of that in its staging and presentation (i.e. lack of ensemble). I'm also glad that the expression work was noticeable! Even though I've been taking a more semi-realistic approach as my style developed, I suppose my cartoony inspiration really shined through here anyways. The advantage of this medium (vs the live theatre origin) is really to hone in on those microexpressions that you wouldn't see on the stage, so I wanted that to be a focus. Ahh, I'm just rambling though, since it's always fun to talk about the process behind these. Thank you for the comment & kind words!
Ricky and Jane are my favorites and Noel is probably third but I love this song the tonal whiplash between these two songs the storytelling and dancing in this song and the utterly impressive vocals and wire work of Jane’s are a great contrast but yes, these are two of my favorite songs but I agree with you on the I will never stop questioning who in there right f-ing mind came up with this song I am 50% sure the person might’ve been on edibles
What i love is this comes from the diabled character. Often times people see them as uwu babies and its so annoying, you can even see Ocean act like that towards Ricky in the play
