    Good session! could you please let me know if you are casting your baits onto the reef or just before the reef starts ? I'm new to Snapper fishing and trying to understand how you aren't getting snagged using a running snell rig?or are you casting on sand patches amongst the weed? thanks

    • @ReedysRigs
      @ReedysRigs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm anchored right on the edge of the reef, aiming to drop my bait just beside it rather than directly onto the reef itself, as the area is prone to snags. The reef has a mix of heavy ground that gradually transitions from sand or mud into the reef, so it's not an exact science-just try to position your bait close to the reef for the best results.

    Got any thoughts on the bulbous nose on some snapper Brett?
    Heard its male only and for breeding purposes, heard its an infection from scaring the nose, heard its generally fish living on more reefy and broken ground that have the nose and head bulb?
    Keen to hear your opinion.
    While ive never witnessed snapper digging, ive come across dig marks at low tide that are distinctively teardrop shape,
    And if snapper are anything like a black bream, they will dig forward with the nose, then reverse with their big pectorals, dig again and repeat.
    Just a theory as to why some have that big nose?
    I know for sure that rays and port jackson sharks will leave circular dig marks, as they hover and use mouth only to dig and disperse the bottom.

      Snapper develop these head bumps, or "nuchal humps," for a few reasons, especially during breeding season. In Australian snapper, the bumps are most noticeable in males. These humps are thought to play a role in mating displays and dominance, as males often "headbutt" each other to compete for females. This behavior helps the strongest males stand out and attract mates. Additionally, snapper interact with reefs and rocky areas while foraging, and the bumps may be an adaptation to withstand the impact of such environments during these competitive and active periods. Pretty Much what you Said..

      @@ReedysRigsthanks for that mate.
      Appreciate your time to comment.
      sounds very similar to Steve Coopers findings👍
      That man made me keep a diary a long time ago, forever grateful.
      Its finally paying off, same spot, similar time of year, half moon, 12m water, right on the high tide change at first light.
      89cm released nov 6th 2023, and a 87cm/8.4kg oct 28th.
      Thanks to you, the steak baits are working far better in the strong currents than the fillet baits i started out with.

    • @ReedysRigs
      @ReedysRigs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      there are many shallow water reef's right around PPB from blackrock to werribie . its a matter of driving around in that 3-7m and finding one , do it at blackrock to get an idea what your looking for , then branch off to new area's no one fishies .. nothing worse then boats around you spooking all the fish....
