This was such an epic conclusion to the trilogy!! I really found that despite the runtime, it managed to keep me intrigued the whole way through and the pay-offs at the end of the film were so rewarding. Enjoy :)

"Do you feel in charge?" I love how Bane only has to gently touch the guy's shoulder to completely put him in his place.
Awesome reaction! I'm pretty sure they made Bane's voice so loud because in the original cut of the movie, audiences couldn't understand most of what he was saying! A combo of his accent and the muffled mask effect. So Nolan's sound editors went back and re-balanced the audio to make Bane easier to hear and understand.
EDIT: Also, apparently even Marion Cotillard (who played Talia) couldn't *believe* they used THAT take of her death scene. Nolan is usually such a great director/editor, but him choosing to use that hilarious death moment is a choice I'll never understand. I literally don't know ANYONE who didn't laugh or go "wtf?" in response to that scene.
Maybe the files containing the other takes got corrupted somehow, so they had no other choice but to use that take. In a movie full of excellent acting, it was a very jarring moment that stuck out to most viewers. 😆
When you said how the villain got the speech of Gordon, it was the moment when he was at the sewers and he managed to espape, only for Bane to discover the paper with the confession related to the true legacy of Harvey Dent.
I have a special place in my heart for TDKR. I'm originally from Pittsburgh where much of the movie was filmed and I took my boys (then pre-teens) downtown to watch when we were visiting my dad one weekend. My oldest (12 at the time) stopped and asked some guys who were digging a hole in a sidewalk what they were doing and one of them said they were prepping for an explosion scene to be filmed later that week. I had to work so we couldn't go back on that day, but we did get to see Catwoman speeding down a road on the motorcycle. Some of the buildings had false fronts to look more like Gotham. The following summer, I took the boys to see the movie at a theater and we had so much fun remembering the various landmarks around the city. I had always like Batman before, but I think that was what really kicked off my Batman obsession lol
The plane crashing stunt at the beginning was amazingly practical and real, no CGI. Absolutely incredible!
54:42 Nolan loves IMAX, so when you see these changes in ratio it's actually scenes that were shot specifically for IMAX.
My weird theory/head canon was that the rope tethered the jumper to the ground and held Bruce just shy of being able to reach the ledge. By removing the rope, he was able to physically reach the ledge. The risk of course is that if he didn't jump far enough he'd likely fall to his death.
Fun fact , the “ that’s a lovely voice “ line was improvised by Tom Hardy but they liked it and kept it in.
Hearing Bane's Hispanic accent in cartoons or games feels different now. It feels jarring if it's not Tom Hardy's voice 😂😂😂
@@nitrokidwas he hispanic in the comics??
@@nitrokid that comment reminded me of the people who say things like "I can't believe they made a book series about the LOTR movies!"
Funfact: Tom hardy doesn't just look bulked he actually gained a lot of weight for the movie and became very concerned over his health.
Meanwhile Christian Bale every movie: 60kg -> 100kg -> 130kg -> 70kg -> 90kg... 😂
No shaming caring about your health but it's quite funny when christian bale is your counterpart in that matter...
Peoples got different bodies so it's possible that Bale just doesn't get as much trouble doing this, and Hardy gets completely wrecked if he does. It's damaging either way, but there's a gradient of how much radical change different people can handle. Or maybe Hardy is just more conscious of his health.
They've definitely enhanced the volume of Bane's voice since this came out. I watched this both in theaters and then at a friend's house right after it came out. I'm slightly hard of hearing, and I remember thinking (as well as hearing other's talk about this) that Bane was just too hard to understand a lot of the time in the movie, originally.
Tom Hardy (Bane) actually does Box/MMA fighting when he’s not making movies. You can find his fights online. It’s pretty wild. Also you should see him fight in the movie warrior 🤯.
comics reader here! john blake (robin) is actually a very fascinating character, because while he is an original character of the movie with no direct comics counterpart, his character has drawn inspiration from several comic book characters who have held the robin mantle. the first robin, dick grayson, also lost his parents at a very young age, and was a police officer who was later promoted to police detective. the second robin, jason todd, was also an orphan, and was raised in poverty, often in group homes like blake. both jason and dick had that deep seated anger over losing their parents that blake talks about in the movie. and lastly, the third robin, tim drake, figures out batman's secret identity completely on his own. an argument could also be made for some inspiration being drawn from the fourth robin, stephanie brown, because her backstory is very similar to jason's. regardless, it's a very cool detail that comics fans love to see!
some other things i've noticed about this movie:
- bane breaking batman's back actually happened in the comics (batman: knightfall)
- talia al ghul's comics counterpart is a very complex character with a complicated past. her origins have changed over the years through various retcons, so she's gone from compassionate hero to cruel villain in just a decade or two. but her relationship with her father IS very complex, and this movie really nailed that. (unfortunately, despite being a woman of arabic and chinese descent, talia has only ever been played by white women in movies and shows)
- and as a little fun fact to finish off, in the comics talia and bruce had a child together named damian wayne al ghul, who is the current carrier of the robin mantle in the comics!
Excellent comment! The ethnicity thing always bothers me. Liam Neeson is an excellent actor, but he is NOT a blend of Arab and East Asian (ditto Marion Cotillard). When a comic book character is created, they are given an ethnicity. To behave as if that ethnicity doesn't matter, whatever that ethnicity maybe, is to imply someone's cultural or racial identity is irrelevant. In the words of the late great Michael Clarke Duncan, when asked to play Kingpin, “You know the guy is white, right?”
@@333OcsisWith Neeson, I think the change is justified by the fact that him being Ras al Ghul is a twist. He plays the character of a Frenchman for most of the film, and I think an argument can be made that "Ras al Ghul" is merely a title that various members of the League of Shadows have adopted across history. As for Talia, it may just be me, but I think the actress can pull off half-Arabic decently convincingly.
Highly recommend you watch the "Prince of Egypt" animated movie
oh my god yes!
heck yes please
I can imagine if you had a mask on 24/7 & you were a villain you would make sure you weren't muffled so I never thought the volume was out of place.
Yeah I heard apparently the test screening audience couldn’t hear him so they had to make him super loud for the audiences. 🤷♂️
They originally aired the opening airplane scene at special showings of “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” in 2011. I was at one of the showings and you could barely hear what Tom Hardy was saying underneath the mask. So they did some editing and made his voice more audible.
I can imagine if you had a mask on 24/7 & you were a villain you would make sure you weren't muffled so I never thought the volume was out of place.
I loved that so much of this one was filmed in Pittsburgh. It was like living in a movie set when I worked there. One of my favorite places is the Mellon Institute at CMU which stood in as Gotham City Hall. Really beautiful building and campus.
Also, I love the camera work of Bane absolutely laying into Batman before he gets taken out. Gives me goosebumps every time.
3 Body Problem, please. One of the most horrifying non-horror series.
18:51
“Some guy just fell over in the back!”
He was an old Star Trek redshirt!
17:18 That has always been my favorite thing about Batman. Other superheroes always had powers - some of them otherwordly - but Batman always relied on his intelligence first.
Didn't know Anne Hathaway was in this.
4:25 i had a feeling she was cat woman i do remember she had played cat woman but then i thought if i mistook the wrong actress but nope she definitely cat woman, she good at Playing two different types of personalities
My only complaint about this movie really isn't a complaint at all; it is more a sadness. We get Robin... and then that's the end of the Nolan Batman movies. I MEAN C'MON!
On another note, mate. I love your reactions, and getting to the end of this trilogy alongside you is another stand-out moment of many many others.
Ngl this is the first time I've noticed Glen Powell in this movie 😂
The actor that played the man that fixed Bruce’s back in the pit recently portrayed Albert Einstein in “Oppenheimer”.
The Dark Knight >> The Entire MCU Universe 😋
This trilogy holds a special place in my heart. Still my favorite superhero films. I just love how these movies are less so about Batman the superhero as they are more about Bruce Wayne, the human. Growing up with the Batman movies in the 90s, the character of Bruce always felt so secondary. And this focus on Bruce throughout the trilogy is why that ending feels so earned.
I love this movie. I dont know why people dont like it much. Yes there are few things falling short like hand-to-hand combat action but nothing to dislike the entire movie over.
Oh, oh!
You HAVE to watch the Dune films though!
They're epic
If you think about it, the three villains of the Nolan Trilogy are the perfect choices to go against Batman.
1) Scarecrow: Preys on Batman's residual fears and traumas while he still very unstable.
2) The Joker: Batman sees the world and its criminals in terms of codes and motives. When he meets The Joker, the "Agent of Chaos", and can't profile him, he has to resort to city-wide sonar surveillance just to track him down. And even when he does, he can't actually beat The Joker because they already won by turning Harvey Dent.
3) Bane: Completely destroys Batman's pre-existing fear tactics and use of darkness.
Bane also completely outclasses Batman in terms of power, forcing upon him the realization that he really can't do much by himself.
"Every hit from this guy feels like he destroys you and your ancestors" I just laughed my ass off at that, oh damn. 🤣 Thats like the best line I've ever heard lol love it!
Would you consider watching "Chronicle".
I think you'd find it interesting
Yes please
You have to watch Pete Holmes' Badman now. Such a funny take on that trilogy. All the things you joke about or questioned are made fun of.
I love how it took him the whole movie to figure out Bane is Tom Hardy.
0:52 he was little finger in game of thrones and was the bad guy in maze runner scorch trials and death cure.
Banes' voice is so loud because its literally all ADR because it was too muffled 😂
all the films were filmed in different locations, tho i def think gotham is meant to be like nyc! however, this particular movie was filmed in pittsburgh, pa - hence all the bridges! it was a fun time seeing the batmobile around town lol
It didn't make it clear in this movie, but Bane gets his strength from a drug called Venom. He usually wears a tank and it's delivered through the mask.
not how it is in this movie hes just really strong
In this movie he just needs the mask to breathe I think
The reason it "didn't make it clear" is because venom isn't a thing in this adaptation.
31:45 So that's actually Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, but parts of it were shot in Oakland, California as well
Source: I'm in the movie
I'm not the biggest superhero movies lover (actually I hate most stuff that comes out nowadays)...but will always have a special place in my heart for Batman and especially for this trilogy. I have to agree that it's the perfect end. :) Also, I must admit that I like this one (as a whole) a little bit more than the second one.
"(actually I hate most stuff that comes out nowadays)"
I am a big superhero movies lover and many of the recent superhero movies are just C-tier ticket-bait. However, fortunately, there are some really good ones that have come out recently too, including Across the Spider-Verse and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.
Speaking of heavy weight boxer, the film warrior with tom hardy is amazing. Probably not great for a reaction but if you have some free time check it out
Thank you for reacting! Really want you to watch Spider-man with Tobey Maguire, I’m sure you will like it.
John Blake isn't technically "Robin", that's just his middle name. Christopher Nolan refused to give Batman a sidekick no matter how hard WB insisted. His compromise was to create a wholly original character based on the first Robin, who in the comics grows up to become a detective (and a vigilante of his own) and is occasionally called a "hot head".
How is that not technically “Robin”? Like obviously it’s not Robin from any other universe but he’s still Robin?
@@thecocoacouch because he was never Batman's sidekick. He essentially skipped the whole sidekick stage and went straight to being Batman at the end.
@@Enrique-Garciabut his name is robin dude
He's not THE Robin, geez
Think about this logically. If his actual name is Robin, not a codename, why would he use it as a secret identity? Like, people already have a hard time believing nobody would realize Clark Kent is Superman (even if Christopher Reeve showed people how it can be done), now imagine if he told people to call him Clark?
The name is just an Easter egg, that I kinda wish Nolan hadn't done. Because this little nod really muddied the waters. He was never a sidekick, he's a successor.
There are some weird character variations that way between these movies and other Batman depictions. For instance, my initial knee jerk reaction was I was pissed at the time skip for two reasons, one, it's completely out of character for Bruce to just up and quit, and 2)it completely undermined the ending of the Dark Knight because he doesn't say he's gonna just quit after taking the fall and part of the weight of taking said fall is diminished by knowing he just disappeared, and didn't fight on despite being hunted by law enforcement. Just didn't hit right to me. I've learned to look past those by compartmentalizing the Nolan movies as a slight variation.
All of Tom Hardy’s lines had to be re-recorded for Bane because early focus groups said they couldn’t understand him. I think it’s meant to be like a synthesized voice hence the odd tone and volume
I really loved the ending they did.
This is my 2nd favorite of the trilogy, after Batman Begins. This ending is nearly perfect, and it's definitely what Batman needed after TDK. I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate, I love the dark knight, but the ending is absolutely horrible. Batman would never take the blame for killing 5 people and go into hiding for 8 years. Also, as a comic book fan for my entire life, Ledger played a Joker that I have never seen in any comic book. He was good, but he wasn't a Joker that I know of. I also agree that Alfred would have never have left Bruce's side no matter what.
Actually Alfred was lucky to leave the gotham on time right before chaos started, he probably would be harmed by prisoners
WHERE'S THE TRIGGER quickly became a meme lol you're not alone in laughing at that. But my favorite line has to be "You'll just have to imagine the fire" 😂
When the villain is so good u forget Batman is in the movie xd
its so funny to get to the last like 10 minutes of this long movie and go "wait...thats tom hardy"
That was one of the things I hated about this movie, Alfred leaving and Bruce losing his entire fortune. Both things would never happen.
It's also weird how when Bane was in the pit the prisoners all were attacking each other, yet when Bruce is there....they all get along and cheer for each other? Like what?
That was one instance when they r***** the woman the second they got the chance.
@@thecocoacouch They never said that. That seems to be adding fuel to the fire of the myth that guys in jail get all pent up and horny and would r*pe any women who was around, that is false. As one who did time that is utterly false. In fact most criminals, are far nicer people then non-criminals. On a personal level anyway.
"And she slept with him!?" See... Now you've gotta watch Funny or Die's video spoof of the Talia/Bruce/Bane scene... Hilarious
I feel like it's not Batmans fighting feeling/looking old necessarily, but Bruce thought brute strength would be enough hence why we see he tried to use the robotics to not just heal his legs but enhance them. It reminds me of Trunks in DBZ when he thinks he reached SS2 & surpassed Vegeta but he was so bulky it didn't matter how strong he was, he couldn't use it properly
Yeah but it’s pretty clear he did a much better job in the climax of the film even before he was damaging Bane’s mask. Also 8 years after your prime is HUGE in terms of fighting performance.
My Batman! Have you seen Joker yet? It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen sequel coming this year! Thanks for the reaction.
35:56 joey king i was thinking that, 45:29 yeah makes sense cus i was like thats a little girl not a boy
I just realized, the clothing Bruce wore in the Pit....were did it come from? Was that what was under his Batsuit? Did Bane and his men strip the suit off him and he was basically left in his under armor lol? Or was he stripped and they dressed him in those rags?
Probably the later.
Gotham is shot in Pittsburgh in this movie. They use the Pittsburgh Steelers and their stadium in the football scene
Shivers! Big time shivers with this one!
If you didn't know, the opening plane attack sequence was partially inspired by a similar scene in the opening sequence of 'Licence to Kill' (1989). I'd really recommend watching the James Bond series if you haven't seen them, they're a lovely bit of nonsense and a lot of fun.
Spelled "License"
You're probably the first reactor who figured out what's the deal with the blood transfusion thing in the plane XD
31:45 Gotham in Batman begins is inspired by Chicago, Gotham in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises is inspired by New York,
2 days ago did you re upload your batman movie reactions.
Also will it be possible if you can reupload the kong skull island movie.
This batman movie i actually don't remember you reacting to it so this must be new, but the first batman movie was uploaded again right 2 days ago
I like this movie quite a bit but there are a couple parts that do make me wonder what Christopher Nolan has against alternate/better takes..
Awesome movie, love the ending 51:58
Satisfying is the word for this Batman Series ❤️🔥 dunno how many times I have watched this one out of the all 3, Tom Hardy Intro scene in that Plane with his voice coming out was always Goosebumps couldn’t get enough of that scene 😊
The 2nd is brilliant and Loved it loved The Joker and everything about it. He will remain the UnTamed Villian forever. 3 rd movie villian is Pure Evil Chaos One And Tom Hardy did a real good job with it. Both the villains in Dark Knight & Dark Knight Rises are my absolute favorite 😍 no comparison ❤️🔥
Oooo that's a really good point that it would have been a really cool ending to have it just be alfred smiling but not seeing bruce and selina
Tom Hardy “heavyweight boxer” comment should lead you to watch the movie Warrior (an amazing Tom Hardy movie!)
So many problems with this movie. From Bane and Robin being not done right, to Talia being all wrong, and the ending, Bruce would never fake his death to live a normal life, that goes against everything Batman is about. Also Alfred saying I'm afraid you want to fail, is not accurate at all, he should know Batman isn't ever looking to fail, he plans and plans and plans and goes in with every possible advantage he can get, yes he has no problem with sacrificing himself IF he has to, but he's never looking to do so.
51:00 Except it doesn't Robin is a code name. They should have had his last name be Drake instead of Blake (Which was what they were originally itnending) and then the reveal int eh ed should have been that his name was Timothy, Tim Drake. The third Robin.
12:30 the pearls belonged to his mother, the car doesn't matter. Of coruse I can't for a second imagine any othe rbatman not having a GPS in every one of his cars.
47:32 The bike looks good not just because of Ann Hathawy 😂said every man watching her on the bike 😉🤣
Recommendation: Dark City. It's considered an unknown geek gem. Bad, but good.
Als imagining Batman when he returned to Gotham, he's like before I save anyone, I gotta make a big flaming Bat symbol on a bridge and have it lead a trail all the way down to where Gordon will be...Like huh??? How did Batman make that? Imagine seeing Batman dangling on the bridge spraying some flammable substance and basically doing graffiti of a Bat symbol and being like wtf are you doing Batman?
Yeah it’s pretty funny to think about 😆😆
@@thecocoacouch Yup.
Man, Caine gives such a special performance
Love this trilogy. This is my second favorite movie of the 3.
Worst thing about it was Talias death, other than that, loved it
It wasn't that Batman hadn't fought in 8 years, he was on the run and being chased by the cops for 8 years, that's why his body was beaten up. Bruce Wayne wasn't seen in 8 years.
They hadn’t seen Batman or Bruce Wayne in 8 years. He literally hadn’t don’t anything in that time so his body had decayed and had to be built up again. 🤷♂️ so yeah he definitely was out of practice. His prime was in the dark knight, not to mention the difference in physical prowess between someone in their 30’s (Bruce in the dark knight) and someone in their 40’s (dark knight rises)
@@thecocoacouch Your cartilage doesn't just vanish by being lazy around the house. Just casually walking around the house would still keep it going. And Batman has bested Superman when he was like 65 years old lol, Batman's prime is always as Batman is a living symbol, not a person.
@@ItApproaches Yeah well I guess they just wrote it within the bounds of reality. Would be cool to see a version of him in live action where he's doing that stuff at that age haha.
@@thecocoacouch Would be interesting but the best choice for that has passed as Kevin Conroy died. We shall have to settle for the animated movie.
Awesome reaction of my favorite DC movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
The ratio changes when the scenes are shot in IMAX.
i have a suggestion for movie you should check out its called the mummy
Dark knight is pretty good
I know you said the DC movies might seem a bit off for you but if any of them is worth looking at it might be the first Wonder Woman 😄
Jealous of Bruce, imagine pulling Anne Hathaway lmao 🤣fuckin luckiest man alive
In these movies Gotham is a mix of sets between New York and Chikago. Previous ones were mostly Chikago, expecially Dark Knight.
This ending is immaculate, so hopeful. Shame we're not getting a Robin sequel 🥲
Glad you finally got to this movie, it's absolutely fantastic. Great work mate.
this movie is so good! Miranda's death is iconic lol
Do love this movie and the ending 👌 also Anne as Selina is amazing
Finally!!!!! Yessss that's my favorite!
I so agree with the shot on the nodding in the end, everytime I see it I think "ehhh.."
Love this movie, my favourite of the three.
Damn, AT LAST!!!
Now if you want to continue your DC movies review then you should also watch Man of Steel, Batman VS Superman, Wonder Woman, Zack Snyder's Justice League, The Batman, The Flash, and Joker
Nah, fear doesn't drive you to do whats impossible, it cripples you and when afraid, logic goes out the window. Pandemic showed that.
It actually is my guy. What happens naturally in humans is we produce adrenaline as a fight or flight response in situations of extreme fear. It’s a natural way our bodies produce what it needs to survive. The example you gave is when people allow fear to dominate their being and take over which leads to despair. So fear is 100% helpful in achieving insurmountable things, as long as it doesn’t overcome you. Being afraid is different to being a fearful person.
@@thecocoacouch I suppose I should clarify that my point was most people will succumb to their fear, rather then realize that there is nothing to fear but fear itself. Most never question their fear and why it's there, and realize that it's been brought on my external forces wanting them to be scared.
@@ItApproaches Yeah. I perform a lot and we're taught to recognise fear and nerves as our body preparing and rather to see it as an asset which I think is cool. You're right though that most people don't see that.
@@thecocoacouch Mhm.
This is another great movie The Dark Knight is still the best but this movie was awesome, it wasn't supposed to be New York just another city in America, that ironically looks like New York, there's so much drama in this the music is again done by Hans Zimmer like the other 2 movies of this awesome trilogy, one of the best Trilogy's ever up there with The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.
So many famous actors in this trilogy, I loved everything about the Trilogy, it's just sad it had to come to an end, I like how he passed the torch to Robin in a weird way, at least at the end Batman was recognized as a Hero he always was.
Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman and Batman have a very complex history in the comics and movies, TV shows, and even computer games, mainly the Arkham series, where once again, Batman has romantic interests such as Selina Kyle (Catwoman) and Talia, the woman in this film.
Now that you've finished the trilogy I hope you'll watch Matt Reeves' The Batman in the future. It is, as of now, not connected to any other movies released inbetween so it can be viewed as a standalone film despite the universe of DC films released before it. It's the most detective movie of any Batman film.
Yay next one,thx for reacting .
Love your channel oscar.
Can you please react to the second Pacific rim movie and other movies like the impossible, damsel, world war z and no escape.
Ye Tom Hardy plays Bane
DC doesn't get much right as far as movies, this series, Superman 1 and II and the First Batman with Keaton are the few.
Um, what, who gets goosebumps hearing the american's anthem? sorry, never heard of that. xD
I can’t find your video of Batman begins 😢
It comes right up for me
I never liked the dakr knight much, The dark knigth rises and batman begins are good movies though.
“How’d he get his speech?”
You’d know the answer to that if you were actually paying attention and weren’t laughing and playing it up for the camera
Right?
Was up there with “Oh! He’s Robin!!”
“Please remove all you carry-on luggage from the overhead compartment, and welcome to Earth!”
Oscar, you should watch the movie, "Seven pounds" with Will Smith. What a masterpiece of a movie
