So awesome. I still have my 1997 traxxas nitro sport, and my 2006 nitro jato 3.3 😎 I finally broke down this past October and got them running again after sitting for probably 10-12 years. Engines were gummed but not bad and it didn’t take long to get them cleaned up and running again. Man did it bring me back to my early RC days where everything I owned was nitro. I drove the daylights out of the jato until it started getting too cold to drive it. Can’t wait until Spring when I can start driving them again. Electric is awesome and much easier to store and maintain. But there’s just nothing like the sound and smell of a nitro RC car.
Same here. Had my old 3.3 jato stored for years but glad engine was still in good condition. Replaced a few parts and got it running again! Enjoying holiday break driving it again!
Awesome to see you're building this one right for racing. One thing I for sure agree with is the 3.3 has a lot of bottom end power for a 2wd vehicle. One thing some of us have found is the 3.3 engine crank fits the 2.5 but has a larger fuel passage, combined with a losi 3.4 carb and virturally any option exhaust the trx 2.5 really could hang with most other brand .12 and .15 engines.
I hope you show more on the Jato, I would love to see all that you do to it and how you break it in. I have my first RC10Gt from 1998 that I’m thinking of getting up and running again.
@@SOMNIOHM but I want to know how the race is going to go with a 3.3 against.21 racing motors. I feel like ten minutes and he's gonna vibrate the carb loose and flame out.

Ah yes, the 1/10 Nitro Stadium truck. The class I loved to hate. It was always a secondary class to 1/8 buggy when I raced BITD. I have run my share of Team Losi and Team Associated trucks. The best combination I found was the RC10GT Factory Team model (blue chassis) with the Crecenzi drum brake. A brake that actually worked consistently and was not an on/off type of affair helped significantly. I typically ran the O.S. 12CV red head engine and it was just OK. The 12CV-R was a higher performing engine, but the lightswitch powerband made it very hard to drive. I got my hands on a new, older model O.S. CZ-Z with Ron Paris mods done to it. Best engine I ever ran in that platform. It was very smooth and not overpowered. Overpowering the rear wheel drive platform was always the back breaker for me.
Yesss we need more of this class!! I’ve ran a jato a couple times at a yearly charity race in my area and it’s a blast I’ll be running my rustler this year! Kudos to you for running a jato!!
Awesome choice! I’m curious to see how you tune the suspension. One advantage the rustler has is more suspension travel. The jato has short shocks in the rear and is tuned for the road which may limit the off-road capability? Can’t wait to see the next video on it!
I knew you were gonna go for the Jaydo I would’ve gone for that one too. Great choice start the new year right God bless you and your family. Happy new year,,,,,🙏🙏,,,,,,,,
TLR offset stadium truck wheels would be a perfect fit for the Jato with its long arms and would let you run standard 2.2” stadium truck tires without cutting as Jato wheels are 2.8”
Been thinking about Nitro’s. I do wanna try one. Watching you get a stock Jato ready to brawl with race rigs…. Sign me up! Looking forward to the build and the race Mark!
Dude my first nitro was an HPI Rush Evo, which was a 1/10 nitro RWD stadium truck, and that thing was awesome. Even as a complete amateur/kid I couldn’t kill that thing! Super fun class!
I used too race a jato 3.3 back in high school and I always ran with the electric guys they didn’t mind it was pretty cool they called me the nitro guy cause of it yes it’s wider but it runs perfect on a track but I’d still go with a rustler like you said more compact and don’t have to work on too much with a 2 speed transmission there’s a lot more to work on.
People knock Traxxas nitro motors but they are great engines. I have more trouble getting the 2 speed to shift the way it should than I have tuning it. My old 99 nitro Rustler I got new is still going strong! I cant wait to seethis one all hopped up and on the track!
Legal motor size for ST class was .12. Most club races allow .18 & smaller The race you going to allowing larger than .12? Love the nitro content! Good luck at your race.
I read the brake servo is too weak to stop the car. This is one the echt where you have to put a lot of money into it until it is track ready. You could just go with a competition rc car like a 8th scale buggy.
jato 2.5 was my first nitro car, no way those stock tires are going to work on track . I would remove the starter motor for racing. you would need the motor back plate to remove the starter. very excited to see this race and how you do.
@@michaelgraham2943 I didn’t know you could do that! I’m new to the nitro game and I should have done it a long time ago but I had people talking me out of it, but I ended up winning one and it got me to buy more lol! But thanks for the info man I appreciate it! I’ll give that a shot
I love my Nitro Slash, but it's too damn fast for any logical use. I sold both of my T-Maxx 2.5s, but kept the Slash. I suck at tuning and glow plugs are expensive so I don't run it that often but it IS fun. I mostly stick to my B6.4 for carpet racing or my Losi Baja Rey 2.0 for bashing these days.

Nitro built Traxxas, they wouldn't bail on it like that. It is certainly true they offer fewer nitro models now, but that's because the electric models are way better now.
Are the Jatos ball diff? You know I have the Ignite TLR 22T4.0 I did ball and gear diff runs at BnT. The ball diff is night and day better. The gear diff is better on carpet.
I bought the jato 3.3 when it first came out after the 2.5 and my first ever speed run (after I broke it in) the single brake disc snapped in two resulting in no brakes smack into kerb full throttle and snapped in half an destroyed the whole front end and cracked the motor and to this day it’s in bits back in its box😢😢😢
For Christmas I got a new 3.3 engine probably going to finish breaking it in since it’s my first nitro let me the tips I would really appreciate it thanks
I applaud Traxxas for still selling nitro RCs.👏👍

Just put a sharpie mark on the flywheel and turn it to bottom dead center by hand
The problem with the nitro rustler is it doesn't steer well at all and way too much power with the .15 engine
