More Kenny Larkin: / kennylarkin
The Lab LA is Mixmag and WAV's weekly live stream and post-work unwind, powered by Void Acoustics, where we showcase the finest DJs direct from our downtown Los Angeles office.
For those familiar with Detroit and its long, storied history with electronic music, Kenny Larkin might not need much of an introduction. A native of the hometown of techno, Larkin followed in the footsteps of Juan Atkins and Derrick May and unleashed his first releases on Richie Hawtin and John Aquaviva's esteemed Plus 8 Records, and later also on Warp, Buzz, R&S, Rush Hour, Planet E and more. After taking some time off to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian in 2000, last year, Larkin released his first production in nearly a decade, returning with a 15-minute belter. Recently, Larkin has finished up a remix with Argentine talent Guti on Cutting Headz and has announced plans to release a new "funky and soulful" album later this year. Now, he's joining us in The Lab LA and you better not miss it.

Look a the crowd development from curious to honest enthusiasm
A long time ago I worked with Kenny Larkin at Pizza Hut, he has a knack at making people laugh!
He was a professional comedian.
Customers or staff or both. p.s. I also worked in Pizza hut in the 1990s. p.s. I love Kenny.
@@woodrowclose Both, it was around 87 or 88. Kenny talked about wanting to be a stand up comedian more than music.
Wow, yeah he has one of his stand-up appearances on TH-cam somewhere
@SMT Admin Pizza Hut in the 80's when it was a sit down place was a bit better than what they serve now. For teenage me it was pretty good but nothing like Niki's Pizza downtown!
Kenny Larkin uses Allen & Heath Xone:92 mixer. More info here: www.allen-heath.com/ahproducts/xone92/

Rich and Kenny have some history together. Kenny has put out stuff on +8 over the years - going back the the label’s earliest days.

Larkin was born in 1968 and raised in Detroit, but did not participate in the early years of Detroit techno because he was serving in the military. Upon his return, he began producing, influenced by Juan Atkins and Derrick May, as well as the Chicago house music scene.[3] His early single releases, "We Shall Overcome" and "Integration", were issued on Plus 8, a label overseen by Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva;[4] later releases appeared on Buzz and Warp as well as other labels. His records have seen more success in continental Europe than in the U.S.
Late in the 1990s, Larkin began working as a stand-up comedian into the 2000s. His musical output has slowed down as a result.

@mixmag. There is no Detroit Techno. Only Techno made in Detroit is techno. Everything else is derivative.

Darude - Sandstorm
Glorious
749 measly likes. There's no justice!
People just want to hear computer noise and EDM horn stabs. IMO, EDM has to be the most horrendous of all electronic music genres. It's mediocrity manifest into an alternative musical medium. The gems are truly overlooked.
@@paulespinoza4746 Clearly, one of the undeniable effects of the logical consequence of the inexorable decline of our civilization I suppose.
Finally, I am "very happy" to have no more parents and no children!
Ez borzalmas! 🤮

wooow Klatsch Peng ;) nice sound from master ;)
good music!
Detroit techno??
BÓX Techno was started in Detroit by black Djs. Look it up
@Tony Moca It only took three. Look p the Bellevue Three. Juan Atkins. Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May. No, They didn't have huge studios, but created with what they had. Others like Carl Craig and Blake Baxter followed.
@Tony Moca Acid House came from Chicago. PIERRE'S PHANTASY CLUB - Fantasy Girl and other tracks by the same name. Italo Disco and Kraftwerk only influenced Detroit Techno. It remains distinct.
@@aw16922 keep on riding that false BS narrative based on zero facts. Even wiki states that techno was originated in Europe. Ignorant yank
Maquina!!!
muito preciso , bom de mais !
That's how you do it
38:46 man is on fire!

Damn!! Kenny you rocking bro
LAST HALF IMPOSSIBLE BEST TIME GREAT¡¡
These kinda sets like the boiler room set are just full of people there to be part of the 'it' crowd, theyre about as into techno as they are knowledgeable about any sort of electronic music. It's such a farce !
They're literally like under 30 lmao get fucked, I'd rather the kids be into good shit and carry on the torch! People like you are the worst in every music scene, quit being so precious mate! Plus, this is LA, not Detroit or Miami my friend; people are different in other places, and Detroit techno slaps no matter WHO you are. You're probably not from the area, but the Lab is a place where very young artists tend to hang out at. It is why they are all so young and varied.
I know, that's a lot to handle. Please lie down if it's too much for you to take.
We are talking the ORIGINS of techno, here. How could people not appreciate it!? I mean, jesus. Ridiculous.
@@NefariousSpineLizard They dont know what to do with themselves, theyre like puppets.
@@georgeapplegate2091 Um, ok. They're dancing to music and having fun, like you're supposed to lmao
@@NefariousSpineLizard Technos not about pristine room enviroments like that, technos not house you know, its all about the muckm the haze, the sweat dripping from the ceilings the people going mad for it at 140 bpm plus. Check out a Jeff Mills set and look at how the people dance to that by comparison, or a Dj Hell set, or a DJ rush set, or a I hate models set.. I could go on. If you cant spot a cliche or a image crisis then more the fool you buddeh !
why does Detroit techno sound so much soulful and enjoyable than Berlin techno?
Bro they should ban this. Search hans glock volendam. Thats a banger or i like it harder
@@goku69969 bro its trash lol. all dutch sounds combined in one song
