    One suggestion for another item...one or more pigtails that are a foot or less long for the AC. This may or may not be needed if you use a proper outlet strip, but quite a few things that plug into AC have that big adapter at the end of the plug that can block an adjacent outlet on the power station...the same thing that easts up space on many power strips. I bought a 5-pk of 8-inch long ones (rated for use *outdoor* and for 1625W...don't get ones rated for indoor only) on Amazon for about $15. These are not the flat plugs that are good for plugging into a home outlet behind furniture. Those have a design that avoids interfering with outlets positioned vertically but could interfere with the horizontal positioning of the outlets on a power bank.
    I agree on the importance of using as much DC over AC when possible (be it USB or 12V).

    Thanks for the video, most items are pretty obvious, but the air compressor test was great. One thing I power is an extra RV water pump I use to pump extra water I take camping. I carry 3 - 7 Gal water containers and when I use up the 27 gallons of water in the RV I use the battery station to power the extra pump to move the water into the RV water tank. Takes only a couple of minutes to move 7 gallons, if that long.

    Great video Jason! I've grown accustomed to using LIon powered tools but hate the idea of charging them up in the field using AC chargers because of the inefficiency of DC to AC and back to DC. So I took one of those little Buck-Boost converters, put it in a little project box and wired the input/output into Anderson Power Pole connectors that interconnect with all the cables I use. Now I have an adjustable power supply at any voltage/amperage I need, up to 5A. I can boost my LiFeO4 battery output up to 21 volts to directly charge the tool batteries, or I can buck the voltage down to something less than 13 volts if need be. So, for example, I cur the power cable running between my wireless router and it's wall supply and reconnected the two ends with--you guessed it--Anderson Power Pole connectors. That way if I want to power my router in a grid down environment, I just replace the wall supply with the buck-boost box connected to my power station, adjust the voltage down to 9 volts and am back up and running. A side benefit is that adjustable voltages also gives you the ability to dim lights (to a degree) and slow motors like your DC fan. Pretty cool!
    Also, the buck boost converter box allows you to use your Lion tool batteries to run various things as well. Nicely bucks the 19v down to the 9 needed to run a DC fan, for example.

    Nice selections. I have some of those things, or similar. I also often use an 8-bay USB-powered NiMH charger (2 bays needed for C or D cells). I also have a couple of 2xAA/AAA universal chargers that can also do Li-ion and LiFePO4. There are all kinds of USB lights; one of my favorites is a gooseneck clamp-on lamp (probably as bright as a 40W incandescent). If you have a common BaoFeng UV-5R, there are USB chargers available for that too.

      @@Jasonoid The UV-5R is an interesting device. A lot of hams will badmouth them into the ground. They're not wrong; these can put out harmonics and other noise, their adjacent signal rejection is poor, and the stock antenna has very limited range. BUT, for the price, you get a lot of radio. For learning, and many simpler use cases, they work well enough; I've been using one to get on a weekly repeater net for a couple years now, with a different antenna.

    I have a Golabs R300 and I can confirm they have definitely updated their invertors. My Golabs R300 is only a 300w with a 500w surge and it handled 302w for over the 5 mins testing cycle. I even got it to 340w for 3 mins before it crapped out. I think Golabs has learned their lesson after the Hobotech review a couple of years ago where their invertor crapped out at 285w and could only handle 265w for any length of time. The Energizer just looks like a repack of the Golabs R300, it even has the exact same screen and ports except they have a 100w in/out USB-C not a 60w in/out. It even cuts off the power at the same 4% battery remaining and same 3A solar charging. It's slightly bigger so they probably added a couple of cells to get that 320Wh instead of the Golabs R300's 299Wh. Probably use the same parts from the manufacturer. If so it's a great little micro power station. You won't be disapointed.

    • @Jasonoid
      @Jasonoid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@schadlarry That would be quite the DC load (12v @ 700-1200 watts). You need to plan for at least 58 amps or more depending on the load of the impact wrench. That would require some heavy wiring. If I was in the situation and needing to run a powerful tool I'd try to setup a 2000 watt inverter (maybe a 1000watt inverter would work?). You'd have to test it out and see what would work best for your situation. I recently picked up an Xantrex PW2000 for my battery/inverter needs. Looking forward to giving it some testing on the channel.

    • @Jasonoid
      @Jasonoid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are trying to run a Modem/Router off DC power, the voltage needs to be exactly what it's rated at. Usually that's 9 volts or so. These power stations put out 12-13.8 volts so it's best to run the modem with the included AC switching power supply using the inverter of the power station.

      Its normally powered off an AC to DC switching power supply that puts out 9 volts (so technically it's always running off DC power). I would say a better use, for the same money is lights and lanterns that have built in Solar charging already, like ones from hybrid light, etc.. then if you have to power them with the power station you can, but if you have enough sun to charge them, you dont have to waste precious watts charging lights.

      Mostly when towing "toys" while camping. Range is majorly reduced while towing in electric vehicles. For trips when not towing it probably wouldn't be an issue.

      @@Jasonoid would this cable work for powering a bluetti eb3a from another power station?
      as in plug the cigarettle lighter end to a power station, then the other plug into the solar input of the eb3a?
      the only thing i dont like about the eb3a is you cant charge it via usb c so im trying to find another solution.

      This one has a 5521 connection which isn't compatible with the EB3A, you'd want to search for a "12v cigarette to 8mm" charging cable.

    • @Jasonoid

      Doesn't allow the surge current! My guess is that its pushing over 20+ amps at startup, if it got past the surge it would have been fine 😔

    What does this test say about one's which couldn't handle the Viair? Is it because they have an inferior inventor. I am really surprised, prior to the test, I thought highly about the banks which failed the test !!! Love the BigBlue the Viair sounded the strongest while tested by it !!!

    • @Jasonoid
      @Jasonoid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't mean they are inferior. Most power stations are designed for 10 amp DC output. Testing that VIAR pump is pushing it beyond 'normal' usage and trying to pull a very large surge current and over 15 amps.
      The BigBlue sounded the most powerful due to its high operating voltage. Each of these power stations are excellent, just didn't handle a very heavy stress test like the air compressor.

      @@Jasonoid What I have learned from this vid is that the "operating Voltage" is one important aspect that should definitely be considered during our research when considering the purchase of a power bank. Thanks for bringing this important point to our attention.

      Great recommendations! Those usually pull much more power (since creating heat), you'd need a 1000w inverter or larger for those devices.

    When running either a 12 volt ceramic heater or a 12 volt slow cooker oven they all draw a lot of power and one thing non of the reviews I've seen on solar generators is which one that have 10 amp or more output actually have cigarette lighter plugs and which are auxiliary ports auxiliary ports center that hold the positive connection being plastic will melt and deform due to the high amperage draw a cigarette lighter plug has a ciramic disc to hold the positive connection and the rest is all metal so it can take a as much amps as the unit can give it without. melting that's one thing Will misses in his tear down videos

    • @Jasonoid
      @Jasonoid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of these power stations are limited to 10 amps and have over current protection built into them so they won't melt. The larger Bluetti power stations / and similar models have 25amp / 30amp DCoutput so you can pull more power for high rated gadgets.
