      Well I think k stands for kilobytes and kilo=1,000, but average phones have 128 gigabytes. Giga=1,000,000,000, so no 64k is not big.

      @@Ampersand1988 Perhaps not, but I was using some exaggeration to spotlight the fact at how "old" our 2020 technology is going to look like several decades from now. Just like when I was a kid, the thought of a 65" flat screen TV was only something I thought I would see in Sci-Fi books. Today...get one at Wal Mart.

    Apple Lisa was a huge failure because it was listed at $9,995.00 and only had 5MB of storage. You could get an IBM XT II with twice the specs for half the price. I just read that Apple ended up dumping 2,100 units of the Lisa into a Utah landfill.

      Lisa was a great computer for the time, but it was really, really expensive. Freaking 10 grand in 1980. That "Dark Shadows" music in the commercial was a weird choice. I think it was a "Wallace Computer Mart" commercial, not an Apple commercial. Steve Jobs would have murdered people over that.

    Wait a minute! I was 17 in 1980, and I've never heard of half of these. Adam? TI? Headstart? Did they go anywhere beyond commercials?

    • @passengersplace
      @passengersplace 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Coleco Adam was actually an expansion for the Colecovision game console that turned it into a computer. The Texas Instruments Home Computer didn't sell well, and you probably didn't hear much about Headstart because it was an IBM PC-compatible computer (just like Dell, HP etc. are today) rather than its own operational standard.

    • @jamesslick4790
      @jamesslick4790 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@passengersplace TI sold over 3,000,000 "Home Computers"("99/4" & "99/4A" variants) from 1979 until 1984, So they DID sell - They just didn't make a profit from them. Fun Fact: the TI-99/4 was the first "home" computer with a 16 Bit processor (in 1979!!). As to the ADAM what you said is HALF true. There WAS the ADAM expansion for the Colecovision that turned the game console into the ADAM computer, BUT more commonly the ADAM sold as a standalone whole unit (that naturally ran Colecovision cartrdiges out of the box) . I actually "dug" the ADAM, it was a neat "home" setup, Unfortunately the hardware (while very novel for the time) was....quirky. as to "Headstart"- Yep like "Compaq", "Dell" and maybe 100 others they were IBM "clone" makers. I worked for Radio Shack in the early-mid 1980s, I had to keep up with this shit. It changed every week! Frustrating for the consumer to choose, But an interesting time for tech!
