    Thank you! I bought a A2 last year at a LGS for less than a Bill! No rust but want to strip and re-paint it. I absolutely love my A2! If only I could find a RCBS Model B cast steel pre rock chucker 🔥

    I have one of these awesome presses too. The date of manufacture will be a two digit code stamped in the smooth ring on the top where your unscrewed the bushing for the dies. Mine is a 68 model. Also, RCBS has the best customer service on the planet. Give them a call and they might have the hardened steel pin you need for the arm. They have sent me missing parts for free in the past. Looking forward to see how it turns out.

      That's great, I assumed parts were no longer available. I will give them a call and see if they have that pin and look for the year. Thanks for the tips.

      My grandpa just found one of these and an old case tumbler in a box on the curb in our neighborhood. I've been reloading on a hornady press but I'm stoked to add another to my bench.

    Really enjoyed the video(s). I have an A, A2 and a 2A (2 over the A). All three cleaned up and repainted. According to RCBS there is no 2A, my reply was I have one and will send you a picture of it, they never responded. Don't know if it was a casting error or what. Have 8 Rock Chucker's , earliest is a '69, started reloading in the early 70's. Why so many, sometimes one needs to go backwards and redo, having to change dies etc. One thing lead to another. So, the 3 die set up, one is set up for depriming only, with universal depriming die, the next is for resizing and small primers, then next is the expander die and large primers, the next one is pre-seater, next is final seating and last is crimping. Paint, I found that the ACE brand Safety Green ACE1010099 was a good choice. One can paint it any color they choose, even pink. Don't remember which one (maybe the A) the bushing was like a 1-5/8 double start threat.

      Hopefully so! That's the thing with those old cast iron presses. If you take care of them they'll outlive your great grandkids

      @@johnt4060 Yeah I love old tools like this. Wish things were still made with that kind of quality. And yes I see this as an heirloom tool. Thanks for commenting.

      @@johnt4060 I think the A2 is cast steel. the Rock Chucker I think is cast Iron. The Steel I think is much tougher than the cast iron....

    • @johnt4060
      @johnt4060 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goneballistic cast iron albeit more brittle is a lot harder and has a higher resistance to wear than steel, cast iron also contains a ton of carbon which also aids in lubrication as the metal wears

    I think mine is of a newer vintage but I own a old JR2 and I went through and cleaned it up and been reloading on it for 3 years now

    A soak in vinegar is better than penetrating oil.

    It's so strange to me that with the vise right there you did most of the work with the press loos in the pan. Why is that? I probably would of had it mounted in the press the entire time

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just kept it in the pan to keep the mess contained. I had to hose it down several times with the penetrating oil.

    The dubbed in music almost makes this unwatchable. It adds nothing to the great work and the otherwise interesting video.

      Thanks for the feedback. I was new to editing and it seemed like a good idea at the time.
